It's been a LONG time since I posted about this project -- last year in fact! The construction directions were released in January, I printed them out, and only now finally managed to finish the quilt top.

When my sister is feeling better after her chemo IV treatment, we go to the cottage. Fresh air, no stress, limited connection to the outside world .... what better place to be than at the cottage during our hot sunny days, especially when there is a lovely breeze off the lake! Disappearing Nine Patch Tutorial

These blocks work really well if there is a contrast in the colours and fabrics you choose, ideally you want to have light, medium and dark fabrics. It's ok if you don't though as it's perfect for scrap busting.

Cutting:

Square size can vary depending on the size of block and/or finished quilt you want - as long as all squares are the same size it doesn't matter. For the purpose of this tutorial, I used a couple of charm packs so my squares are 5 inches.

A Lone Star Beauty and Covid Update #582. OK, not really... from caledonia quilter

This beauty had been in-progress by the maker for quite a long time. The Lone Star block is perfect. She pieced it using the pre-printed fusible interfacing product, which makes for a very exact block. It gets a little bulky in some areas, but that's a small price to pay for great accuracy.

The diamond wedges were all quilted with c.c. (continuous curve), and the outer edge of the star, along with all borders, were stitched in the ditch. I created some ghost blocks in the white background to break that space up into more manageable-sized areas.

Simple Squares {Finished Quilt} from Little Bunny Quilts

Today I'm excited to show off my finished quilt for our April Island Batik Ambassador challenge! Our theme was "creative borders and bindings".

As an Island Batik Ambassador, I am provided with samples of various lines of Island Batik fabrics, Aurifil thread, Accuquilt products, and Hobbs Batting to use and share with you!

My quilt is made entirely of 4.5" squares cut from Island Batik stash builder rolls and 4.5" strips of black solid batik to break up the inner 64-patch from the pieced outer border.

Blocked Borders {April IBA Challenge} from Little Bunny Quilts

I've taken my cut squares for my April Island Batik Ambassador project from squares...

... to a quilt center...

... to a finished quilt top!

Ballet with Kaffe - How I attached the borders from Wendy's Quilts and More

My quilt top is finished!! And I love it.

I always knew that I wanted to include my inspiration fabric somewhere in my Ballet with Kaffe quilt.

I had intended to use it for the borders, but then I realised that the pattern repeat was quite obvious, and the repeating motifs would stand out on the borders. So I decided to piece my borders and allowed snippets of my inspiration fabric to peek through.

Spirit Song Quilt Progress and a Puppy Update from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Look, you guys -- all of my Spirit Song Birds In the Air blocks are sewn together! The top row of three 16" blocks are connected, and the remaining three rows have two blocks connected and one more block needing to be attached. This phase is going MUCH more smoothly now that all of my seams are nestling nicely again, but alas -- my studio is not at all puppy-proofed, so I'm not getting in much machine sewing time these days!

A year-end finish from Chocolate Cake Quilt Designs

I finished a UFO started in 2003. The crazy quilt pattern was pieced with a bundle of red, green, and white homespun fat quarters purchased from can’t-remember-where.

Years later, I regret the gold border, wishing I’d used the same white for it that was used for the back.

But, what’s done is done and I pulled this one out of the closet because, at 54 inches square, it was the perfect size for practice quilting on my new Q-20.
