Bloody Sunday from Cat Patches

Today we awakened to this:

Well, that's annoying. This morning, I have my first physical therapy appointment. It's warming quickly, and so I imagine the snow will be melted before I need to leave. It's a good thing because I'd relish an excuse to cancel and forget the whole thing.

My spate of self-injury continues. Yesterday I managed to slice open a finger with my rotary cutter. No worries. It wasn't a deep cut, but you'd have thought a murder had taken place, given all the blood. It bled and bled and bled. I ...

A Sewing Day from ... Cat Patches

It was another slow day yesterday. I had on my agenda to sew together the 20 quilt blocks for the Charm Stars quilt. It seemed a reasonable expectation that I could get it all done in a single day. I'll admit my arm was tired toward the end of the day, but no worse for wear into the evening. My pain levels are improving, and so most pain I feel now is with certain movements. Even my thumb seems to be improving. It's been two steps forward and one step back throughout, and so I don't expect ...

A Little Finish from Cat Patches

Smitty was all over my sewing effort yesterday. Finally, something a quilting cat can understand. So, here's my little sewing machine set-up. I have windows to my left and behind me, so there's very good light.

Are we finally going to do some sewing? I thought you'd *never* get out your sewing machine!

Sheesh! My chin has been itching for weeks. Thank goodness I can give it a good scratch.

He needed to keep an eye on what was going on outside...bunnies running around and everything...and so he used his prehensile tail in yesterday's ...

A Breath of Fresh Air from Cat Patches

What a dull news morning it was this morning. I read most everything with a light heart, and I don't believe a single gasp escaped my lips as I sipped my coffee. Yesterday morning was greeted in a similarly light-hearted way. We watched the swearing in ceremony, and then Mike made celebratory waffles for breakfast.

Waffles are Mike's signature dish. He makes them the way my mother taught us...with Bisquick, the way they do it on the box, only we substitute club soda for the milk. It makes them nice and light. Mike's been making waffles ...

A Day for Slow Stitching from Cat Patches

It seems as if we're fully settled now, with not a lot to do. We took a very lazy day yesterday, although we did make a quick trip into town. Our goals centered around kitty poo...we needed kitty litter and small garbage bags in which to store our collection of kitty poo for deposit in the appropriate receptacle. There. You could have gone a whole year without knowing that, couldn't you? But you should know that poo is very important in the lives of many, and kitties are no exception.

You would be wise to accept this ...

Scant Planning from ... Cat Patches

We're into intense relaxation mode here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. Sadie is giving the "relaxation" part of our mode a serious trial. She's figured out where the sun shines in the morning. When it shines on a quilt...even better.

When she isn't in relaxation mode, she's busy baffing at the birds. This bird situation is very mysterious. She can see the birds, but they can't see her through the tinted windows. And so her window baffing has been completely unproductive. This has always worked in the past, and so it's driving ...

All Together Now from ... Cat Patches

This morning's post is late. I'll just say I've been watching the news with rapt fascination at what's happening in our nation's capital this morning. I was a teenager in the 60's during protests of the Vietnam war, but I've never seen anything to equal what we're witnessing today. That's all I'm going to say about it because politics is not what we're about here. Still, these are historic times. It makes me wish I could be alive 50 years from now to read what will be written about ...

Something New from ... Cat Patches

There was a time last night when I thought we might wash away. Oh my goodness...rain and wind, and what a storm! It made sleeping difficult. But here we are, still alive, and ready to start the first full week of the new year. Let's make it a good year, okay?

For starters, I made another pieced snowflake for the Snowflakes quilt.

The trimming was difficult. I have a new blade in my rotary cutter, but cutting through four layers where the seams come together was difficult. My arm was hurting after doing the trimming, and so I ...

Some Sewing from ... Cat Patches

It was a pretty quiet New Year’s Eve celebration at the Three Cats Ranch. We did what we do even when neither of us has a broken arm...went to bed early and slept through any fireworks. Speaking of going to bed, I slept in the bed for the second time since this all happened. Oh yes, and let’s mark this dubious distinction of the 4-week anniversary of my accident. I’m doing better than I thought I would be at this point...less pain, sleeping in a bed (twice!), and back to sewing with a few limitations ...

Plenty of Piecing from Cat Patches

We were both moving slow yesterday. With Monday's activities being practically a total loss for the day, we were less-than-enthusiastic about our grocery shopping expedition. It wasn't too bad though, except for the way-too-chatty woman behind the butcher counter. I was only there for the meat, but I think I could write her biography now.

Before we left, I spent more than my usual amount of time stitching Pieces of the Past. I filled my hoop and then moved it for this morning's session.
