The Zig Zag Finish from I Patch and Quilt

Remember the third request for my brother and his wife’s baby quilt?

‘Please add a Flower of Life quilting design on this baby quilt.’

Some of you may be familiar with the Flower of Life design because its use in New Age imagery this century. With the name ‘Flower of Life’ only being just over 20 years old, the overlapping circle design itself is very much older and can be traced back to the 7th or 6th century BCE (wikipedia).

The request for this circle design came from a precious memory where the mother-to-be was taught how to draw ...

Can’t see the zigs through the zags from I Patch and Quilt

How many quilt blocks can you come up with that create a zig zag? At least 3, right?

Let’s look a t a few!

Block 1 – HST

The hardworking Half Square Triangle block. Great for working with a ombre or stripy fabric, or going scrappy !

Block 2 – Flying Geese

The elegant Flying Geese block. There are great ways to create more than one block at a time. Plus you have the option to go scrappy and play with the values of color.

Block 3 – Rail fence, on point

And this fun square block on point, composed of two rectangles ...

Three requests from I Patch and Quilt

In about 5 weeks or so my brother and his wife will be welcoming their first child, a baby boy. The color scheme of the baby’s bedroom is based on a soft minty color that has a grey undertone. They gave me a color swatch in the form of a the paint stick they had used and asked me to match it in a baby quilt.

I was able to match it pretty perfectly! Yay for big fabric stashes!

Most of my fabric stash is actually made up out of Fat Quarters, so I can add a lot of ...

zigging from Making A Lather

I had one last row to do for the row by row quilt.  I dug out turquoise scraps and cut 3 1/2 inch hsts. I made the row, and, started joining rows.

I pieced the top, cut the back, and prepared the binding. It is waiting a turn on the longarm.

All ready to quilt

I am looking to finish webbing the Irish chain quilt at retreat today. I worked on it yesterday, and started webbing the top. I am a little worried that I am too nosy to be working on something that needs a little more attention ...

a bit of sunshine from Making A Lather

I didn't do much yellow sewing for the rainbow scrap challenge. I have scraptastic star and the row x row to do yet. I cut the pieces for the row x row. I needed 104 each of yellow and white.

I chain stitched them together in groups of ten, in between other sewing. It gets a little boring otherwise.

I trimmed them each evening. They didn't need much trimming, but, I wasn't taking any chances.

Then I pressed them.

 I did sew 4 together.

Why didn't I do more? I was working to finish this quilt ...

project box from Making A Lather

Last week was a workshop with our quilt guild. Our resident quilt queen had agreed to teach her 2 nd last time 4 patch posey class. I needed to find the two I had already started, to take and finish at the workshop. I, certainly, did not need to start another one with the class, but, it was a committed time to work on finishing. I went through every ufo bucket twice and no luck finding it. I gave it one more try Friday night, and found the bucket. All my buckets are labeled, why was it so hard to ...

Heidi's wedding quilt from Fabric Engineer

The wedding quilt is finished!

It's large and therefore hard to get a picture of.  However, it wasn't too large for my quilter, so that was awesome.  The pattern is from the July/Aug '19 issue of Quiltmaker and designed by Sylvia Schaefer.  (The official name is Glow Tiles.)  I'll admit, I didn't like the pattern in the magazine.  It's one of the first patterns I've made from a magazine, so they might all be this way.  There were a few details that were missing so I had to do a lot of flipping ...
