Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

More charity baby hats!
Hats are quick projects that can make you feel like you've done something great.
I had ten to drop off with Annapolis Quilts for Kids last Saturday. This is the machine I borrowed from a friend. I like machine knitting enough I've decided to buy my own LK 150 so I can keep making these charity hats.

stash report December 11, 2022 from Making A Lather

My quilt guild's Christmas party was last week. We played a pass a yard of fabric game and the aqua floral was what I took home. The fat quarter was the prize I won. We had a pitch in for food and it was so yummy. There are just some favorites that I only get at a potluck.

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week end I pulled out the LK150 and knit up some more baby hats for charity.
These little hats work up quickly, with the knitting taking about 30 minutes for each hat. I then spend another 10-15 minutes seaming them. These will be headed to Annapolis Quilts for Kids.

The elephant in the room from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Another AMAZING day with Karen. It's incredible how much one can learn by observing, and I did a lot of observing. I'm thankful I had that opportunity!

Once the event was over and I could cash out (more on that another day), I was on my way home. It had been raining like cats and dogs earlier in the day, with gale-force winds. Did I want to drive in those conditions? However, the rain stopped, and the roads were dry on the way home. But the wind? It was windy, and I had to keep a firm grip ...

Stash report November 27, 2022 from Making A Lather

I bought another neutral piece for my boho heart quilt. I am using these colors as the background.

fabric used: 7 1/4 yards

fabric used year to date: 224 yards

90.50 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 6 days last week.

As I was cleaning a pile of stuff, I found a bit of fluff, and thought it had been a while, since, I had spun anything. I always enjoy the process. I find it soothing and relaxing. I need ...

I am NOT a thief from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- so this happened yesterday, and it's not about Murphy!

I went to the mall - OK -- so I went to check out the flip phones, and I thought I'd also buy some yarn. I know -- I do not need more yarn, but this gorgeous chenille yarn is so fun to use with the embellishment attachment for my embroidery machines. The day before, I had seen white, which I didn't have.

As I entered Walmart, I noticed someone had called me and thought I'd call them back. I did NOT have earbuds with me, so I had ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes you just gotta knit.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

My latest pair of machine knit socks were made using Activ yarn I purchased from CSM Supplies. Jamie has so many different yarns and stock changes often. If you are starting out and want great yarn on cones you should check them out.
I added contrast heels and toes to not break up the pattern of the yarn. The solid blue is also from CSM Supplies.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This collection of mostly blues, greens, and yellow, became a pair of monster socks. Sometimes I pick a color, or collection of colors. Other times I just throw stuff in.
I made sure to match the cuffs, heels, and toes this time.
They turned out great! I just need to finish them.

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sunday I sat down with my circular sock machine and cranked out some monster socks. This was as I took the back needles out of work to make the heel. I plopped the little cake I was working from the mini mast into the sock to keep it out of the way and to prevent it tangling while I worked the heel. This isn't an issue when I work the toe because I will only be working with one yarn as I near the toe.
I should have been a little more careful with the green I used for ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

This is what happens when you reset your photo ratio from 1:1 to 3:4 so you can take one photo. You forget to set it back to 1:1. Ah, well, here are some sock photos. Socks knit on my Erlbacher Gearhart circular sock machine. Even after a few years I still love this magical machine.
Cuff knit with Knit Picks Stroll Tweed, body of sock knit with a mystery yarn gifted to me by my yarn bestie, contrast blue heels and toes knit with Knit Picks Stroll.

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

I tried another version of this shawl. Sometimes I fail to read my work. For those of you that don't knit, or crochet, it is just where you look at what you have already done so you know where to place your increases and decreases later in the work. This is a great example of that not happening. Those three little holes don't belong. I had to remove the work from the machine and start over.
Then I had my marks on the machine bed and knew what to look for when doing the increase rows. Then the ...

Cranky Socks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes I just need to knit a pair of socks. I had a 50 gram ball of this ombre yarn. I paired it with a solid Knit Picks Stroll and quickly knit up a pair of socks. This is where I added the contrast yarn for the toe.
Contrast cuffs, heels, and toes makes that 50 grams become a pair of socks. It's been months since I knit a pair of socks. That's crazy.

Travel Crochet from Becca's Crazy Projects

This was a great take-along project.
I've reached the end of the cake of yarn and weaved in the ends. This is a nice size shawl.
The resulting fabric is squishy and soft. I'm not sure what my next crochet project will be. Have you made something with self-striping yarn and really loved the finish?

Yarn is Caron Skinny Cakes in the colorway Raspberry Ganache.

If you didn't read the last post about this project, the pattern is Kria by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir. You can find the pattern on Ravelry. She also has loads of patterns and ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

I picked up several of these Caron Skinny Cakes from the big box store. They are discontinued and were marked down to $5. Perfect for learning.
I did some experimenting with short rows and eyelets. Until I make a mistake too big to come back from.
I ripped it out so I could start again. This is just part of the process. Yarn is rarely ruined after a single use.
I used my Stanwood ball winder to get it back into a cake for my next try. Again, I learned quite a bit about working on the LK150.

Travel Crochet from Becca's Crazy Projects

I found Caron Skinny Cakes on sale at the local big box store. I needed a travel project for a trip to visit family. I packed my project bag with a single cake of yarn, my preferred hook, and my kit. Funny how it matches my project.
The pattern is Kria by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir. You can find the pattern on Ravelry. She has loads of patterns and great tutorials on YouTube
I decided to make a contrasting stripe.
Self-striping yarn is so great for this kind of project.
I worked on this mostly in the car while my husband ...

Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

After the last pair of felted slippers turned out too small I decided to give it another try. I modified my notes to make the slipper wider and longer.
I knit up the pair on the LK150.
And sewed them up. I so enjoy the color blocking on this design. It's something you can't do easily while knitting in the round.
Here is what that unfelted (top) slipper looks like next to the felted slipper I made (bottom).
Here is how it felted up. Sadly, it is still too small for me. I figure the size is around ...

Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

I decided to give felted slippers another chance. This was my second attempt. I make major changes to the design I was using and I'm much happier with this style. Yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes. It felts up so nicely.
These are knit flat on the LK150 knitting machine and then the sides are seamed by hand. The color changes are partially a style choice and partially to assist with lining up that hand seaming.
This time the felting was just awesome! Unfortunately, I didn't knit them big enough so these are really a child ...

Machine Knitting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes when I get a little stressed I think I need more fabric or yarn. This past week was a yarn week. I popped over to the nearest craft store (big box craft store) and bought some Lion Brand Yarn. Most of this is Shawl in a Ball (discontinued, so if you like this ombre yarn head to your nearest big box store and stock up), with a couple balls of Heartland. It seems I was in the mood for purples.
I used the Shawl in a Ball yarn to make a couple shawls on the LK 150. I made ...

Felted Slippers from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been experimenting with making felted slippers on the knitting machine. This was my first try.
Sure, it started out huge, felting works like that.
While it felted very nicely, and the length was about right....
The width just wasn't workable. Even more felting wouldn't fix this problem. This was a great learning experience.

I've gone back to the machine and tried again. I changed tension and the way I'm forming the heel and toes because I'm not a fan of that boxy toe. Now to get the second pair assembled and washed. Wish ...
