heavy laden . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

This post, that is . . . with pictures.  :)  This past weekend was our guild's biannual quilt show!  I spent the afternoon there on Saturday and have the quilty photos to prove it!

I didn't enter a quilt in this year's show, though I did place my Blue Melody in one of the exhibitions that had been set up . . .
So it was fun to have that around!

We had over 250 quilts on display this year -- the show was amazing.  We have SO many talented quilters in our guild . . . it's very humbling to sit among them! Here are a ...

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Sometimes you win some, and sometimes you lose some, but during this past year, I (Kara) have actually won some! Usually when I try for raffles and giveaways, my name or number is just not called—not the case this year.

Barbara Blanton and I with my loot!

Every year at the Academy of Appliqué in Williamsburg, Virginia, two lovely ladies donate a full quilt kit to be raffled off. One year, it was a complete Dear Jane kit, and this year it was Kim McClean's Flower Pots. The kit was full of brightly colored fabrics, and the pattern ...

Winner: Hallo-Harvest layer cake from Carried Away Quilting

It’s time to announce the winner of the Hallo-Harvest layer cake by Basic Grey for Moda. But first, I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for leaving a comment. I enjoyed reading them more than you know. Sometimes in this crazy, stressful, busy world, it’s the kind words of strangers that lift us up. Your enthusiasm for my patterns, thoughtfulness and willingness to share a slice from your own life were day brighteners for me.  You have no idea how badly I wish I could ship a layer cake to everyone ...

pick a pumpkin winner . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

I PROMISE am almost sure that this will be the last post that begins with "pick a pumpkin" . . . at least for another year!! It was a nice solid run of seven. :)

I had the random number generator do my dirty work and it pulled number 36.  Congratulations to Karen of Tu-Na Quilts, Travels, and Eats!  Karen, I'll send you an email to get your particulars.  :)

So I did bake a batch of those Ginger Spice Cookies I blogged about yesterday. Oh they are SO good!
I like the ones rolled in the chunky colored sugar best . . .
Isn't that ...

Cloth book panel winners! Thanks Quilt Girls! from Carried Away Quilting

It's time to announce our cloth book panel giveaway winners, thanks to the generous folks at Quilt Girls! Shop owner Patricia was kind enough to send me FOUR cloth book panels, which will go to four lucky readers!

If you haven't entered one of my giveaways before, my scientific method for selecting a winner is to copy and paste all of the comments into an Excel spreadsheet.  Then I do several sorts to rearrange the entries. Then I ask a family member to “say a number.” Today the lucky guy to holler some winning numbers from the front ...

challenge accepted . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Shoulder recovery continues to go well . . . I'm still in the sling, which makes typing difficult.  So consider this post a labor of love!  ;)

Our guild -- Heritage Quilters of Huntsville -- helds its bi-annual challenge show at the July meeting, which was last Thursday, July 19th.
The challenge, Stitchin' the Blues, was introduced in November and involved creating a quilt using only blue and white fabrics, maintaining size parameters, and keeping projects top secret.  Which for me was the HARDEST part! But since the show has come and gone, let the revealing commence!

I had an idea almost the minute the ...

Houston IQA {3} Ribbons! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Every quilt on this post is a ribbon winner. That's about all I can tell you. It's possible to look them all up in the catalog, which I always purchase, but if I take time for that, you get fewer photos. I'm going with the photos. You can look up the winners in the catalog which is now online.

Janet Stone's Garden Variety Sampler which won Best of Show

And a tighter look at parts of the quilt...
My personal favorite part of the quilt is the topiaries.

Did you notice the sheep?

Can you just ...

On my Design Wall from Quilting Reader's Garden

is a mess.  Wanted to make another quilt as last week's, but it went awry.  I thought of making each block have a different solid. Ugh - I didn't like it.  No cohesiveness as before with only one sash color.  So what to do?  I decided to take those blocks I'd made and change them a bit. This I like.  Need to change out the other blocks to decide for sure.  Has this happened to you?  I see

A few days ago I got an interesting email from Leanne at She Can Quilt informing me that I, me!, was a winner of (now get this) the big prize on the September Scraptastic Tuesday linkup. Yea, big prize--$40 gift certificate from Mad About Patchwork.

Then came the next email telling me the gift certificate was ready! Now do you think I had waited to start shopping. Not me! I know a good thing when I read it.

So I already knew that there was a sale happening--40% off. And the softest fabric in the prettiest colors was waiting ...
