Red is a Neutral becomes... finish from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Another Red Feather. So named because, though there were other titles in the running, this quilt wanted red feather quilting. And more red feathers. And more red feathers. In fact, every inch of red is quilted in feathers, with a few scrolls to break up the monotony.
Detail of the back...just enough
pattern to make the worst of
the quilting less noticeable.

This one serves in all manner of challenges: the Cotton Quilters' Guild block-of-the-month, in which different quilters presented a block or two from January through July, and as the AHIQ "Red Is a Neutral" challenge.

With encouragement ...

White ESP Model 4000 Computerized Sewing Machine Guide from Craftcore

The latest sewing machine in my sewing machine collection is the White ESP model 4000 sewing machine. What attracted me to it was its small size – it’s no Featherweight, but while this sewing machine is in its case, it measures only 6 inches deep and 12.5” inches tall. After doing some research online, I learned that it was one of the first, if not THE first computerized sewing machines made by the White Sewing Machine Company, produced in the 1970s. This isn’t the type of sewing machine I usually seek out (I usually want them older), but ...

A what-not-to-do DIY ~~ finished from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Several years ago I salvaged a dresser mirror from certain death in a land fill. It was in perfect condition. Well, it was ugly. The mirror was dirty, but a spritz of cleaner proved it to be without scratches or other problems. The frame was  another thing. No amount of cleaning was going to make the brown, worn-out wood less ugly.

But I could see potential there. If only I could figure out where, how, when to  use it. I mean, I didn't really need a mirror, ugly or otherwise. So it got put in the studio, where ...

improv walking foot quilting in a woven pattern of organic lines
made in Ne.
I have to admit that red, white and blue are not my favorite combination of colors. I thought about just using 2 colors but I could not think of what I wanted to make for this challenge. In the mean time I was getting the email updates from Amy's creative Side on getting started with Improv. I adore improv and while I have not been ...

It’s Black and White: no-Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party from Clever Chameleon

black and white parrot color scheme by Clever Chameleon

Have you noticed how an absence of colour can bring out the drama and depth in a picture or design?

And emphasise all the details? I am one of the biggest colour lovers out there, but I also recognise that colour can sometimes be a distraction from the other features of a fantastic design.

Seeing something in black and white really helps to distil the important elements out of a picture, don’t you think? What is it about the subject that makes its form distinctive and recognisable? Where are the contrasts and shadows that give the subject that “wow ...

A White History of Art - Art with Fabric Blog Hop from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to the fall 2018 edition of the Art with Fabric blog hop. I'm thrilled to be participating again and would like to thank Alida for all of her hard work :-)

A White History of Art

A White History of Art
When Alida said that the theme would be colour, I'm not sure that I saw the "favourite" in front of it. For me colour is everything! I had a few ideas and when I mentioned them to my daughter, she suggested that I watch the BBC documentaries, History of Art in Three Colours. It was a great ...

Happy 50th Birthday! ~~a finish from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

And another one down, dusted and done. This one is going to a friend to be gift-wrapped and wait for a birthday gathering. How about that? Wait! Did you read that? The quilt is going to WAIT for the party.

I can't believe I've finished this early. I actually finished last week which means that I'm a month ahead of deadline. Go us! Us because I didn't work alone. This was definitely a team effort.

Let's see if I can remember all the players (using first names only to protect the innocent). Deanna gets credit ...

Gasp…my thread broke! from Gray Barn Designs

Cindy here, reporting in from New York.   The big GRAY BARN is in view through a misty rain.  Mom, dad and I are just relaxing and hoping the sun will shine sometime today.  Good thing I brought a few quilting projects with me!

A few months ago, Sandy scored big at an antique store…10 antique red and white Ohio Star blocks.  These unfinished blocks measure 11 x 11 inches square.

I like how the blocks were pieced by hand, very special!

Sandy and I have created three different projects from these 10 blocks.  You’ll see our feature project ...
