More white on stitched paper. from contemporary embroidery

More has been added to the pieces you saw in my last post.

What I love most about these pieces is the irregular edges which come from tearing papers, overlaying papers.

Curved lines of buttonhole stitch, bullion knots and French knots emphasize those irregualr edges.

It's then really exciting to find snippets of white to add to that surface and continue embellishing.

Today I realised I need to stitch more papers in order to finish this piece.

Another process for these compositions which I love.

Paper and white from contemporary embroidery

More white today, another diversion.

This time it's paper.

A stitched paper base, embellished with hand embroidery and snippets of vintage and new cloth.

There are plans for crystal buttons, seed beads and pearls too.

The large hand made ball buttons may find a place....we'll see how and if they fit further along in this process.

White.

Piecing.......vintage white, white trim, white couture fabcric snippets.

These pieces will be embroidered with white....bullion knots, French knots, tiny running stitches.

I intended to create a short video...ha.

It's 17 minutes long but you can skip through it.

(Sorry for my absence...again. I have had facial surgery. It kept me quiet for a while x)

Sunday Chat – Snow Day from From My Carolina Home

This week, I’ve been working on some small projects, and was really looking forward to the guild meeting on Thursday. Unfortunately, this is what I awoke to that morning. It wasn’t much, maybe a half-inch, but enough to keep me from backing the car down that hill. At dawn, the golden light glows behind the mountains on the east side. The snow was continuing to fall briskly.

It stopped later, with under an inch total of the pristine beauty. Still, it was enough to keep me home, so I missed the guild meeting. Sadly, I missed seeing friends ...

Stars of Peace: Let the stitching begin:) from Nestlings By Robin

 IT'S HERE!!

After many hours of work
I am beyond excited to bring my
Stars of Peace: Sestercentennial Sampler
quilt pattern to you!
Lots of information in this post
so please read to the end.

I am very proud of my
family's military service
and of all the military members
and their families
that sacrifice much
more than most will ever know.

In honor of those who sacrifice,
I will be highlighting some
not-so-well-known heroes of
the Revolutionary War each month
with the block for that month.
There will also be a bit of history
about the block ...

Good-bye 2024 and Hello 2026 from Nestlings By Robin

That is Not a typo:)

It has been a rough year on so many levels for many people and I don't know about you, but my calm, the balm for my soul is stitching. The slow and steady pull of the thread through fabric calms me in ways I can't fully describe. There is a form of meditation in this glorious art form that I am thankful to have in my life and hope I can entice others to feel as well.

I have been absent a bit now, I know.  For those following along, we moved from ...

DEMOCRACY MATTERS; THREAD, WHITE, AND BLUE from Q-BITS

After working a month on my previous crazy quilt, I was ready for something uncomplicated.

Guess I can't leave well enough alone!  I was going to use just the simple background block for the whole quilt, but then decided that it needed a star in support of democracy.  It got more complicated after that to keep the zig-zag pattern going.  I ended up making 84 of the 3" striped blocks before I got it right -- always a learning process even on a simple quilt.

THE STATS: Democracy Matters; Thread, White, and Blue, 2024, 27" x 27", Paper pieced, Machine ...

A fun Christmas from Elsie Quilts

Our Christmas included giving this quilt and an apron to our son's fiancee. She kind of expected the quilt but hadn't seen it, but didn't expect the apron. What fun to watch her face...

She wanted lots of flowers, white with pastels. While it was a challenge to find flowers in November, a local shop had this panel with a few fat quarters to match in a kit -- only one left. Fun to make for a charming and fun-loving young woman who is also smart and keeps surprising us. How delightful to surprise her!
