TRENDING: Reds, Lights & Blues! from Marcus Fabrics

It seems like everywhere we look, we’re seeing this classic combination…from patriotic projects to traditional decor to contemporary flair, the colors can’t be beat, whether used as a trio, in pairs, or individually. Sometimes they’re brighter, other times deep russet reds are mixed with beiges and tans, plus dark inky blues for a traditional, weathered effect.

WHERE LOVE GROWS from Nestlings By Robin

Thank you SIMPLY MODERNE for publishing this fun
combination of paper piecing and applique'.
 Meet WHERE LOVE GROWS!
I did pretty well matching my colors
to make it cheerful.
Paper piecing trick:
I collect notions and such and one of
the items are the old heavy metal irons.
They are great weights for pressing
a pile of paper pieced blocks FLAT!!

There is an addition of some bias strips
to the simple paper pieced blocks
 to create the larger branches.
I also stitched in some
little skinny ones for texture.
Then my favorite part...the APPLIQUE'!!!
This is raw edge ...

'Currant Pinwheels' in Simply Vintage! from Nestlings By Robin

Thank you all for sticking through
some of the boring posts this past week
and here is your reward:)
Here is the new issue of Simply Vintage
one of my Favorite publications!!
Inside you will find a sweet
red and green treat based on
this antique quilt below.
This is Coxcombs and Currants which I own.
I thought I would try designing a
smaller piece inspired by the quilt
but in a different colorway.
These are some of my other 'go-to'
colors; red, orange, black.
I really like the small loop design within the leaves.
This one was all done ...

Veteran Quilts - Star Cruising from Baby Boomer Quilting Bee

To all of our Veterans, we are so THANKFUL for your service.  Our local guild's annual challenge for 2019 was dedicated to Veterans. Our members made in excess of 40 quilts, which are being presented to many deserving veterans.

Above, Margaret Rau made her Veterans Quilt, with her own Eagle Design showcased in the center ---- her applique work is amazing.  Margaret used our pattern "Star Cruising", published by Black Cat Creations.

A closeup of Margaret's Eagle.  Thank you Margaret for sharing your quilt.

The above Veterans Quilt is my challenge quilt and is made from the same pattern ...

Remembrance & QOV from Nestlings By Robin

REMEMBRANCE REVISITED
I met Terry and Ruth at Fall Paducah in September. They are involved with Quilts of Valor and we discussed what a great kit my 'Remembrance' quilt would be for that organization.
Then the fun idea of miniaturizing the design was introduced to the conversation and I knew there should be enough fabric from the kit to make a mini because Connecting Threads is very generous with their kits.

I cannot express how exciting it is to receive pictures of completed quilts from makers!  Thank you, Terry and Ruth, for sharing your lovely work with all of us ...

Sugaridoo / Bernina Quilt Along ~~ fabric pull from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

At the last Baton Rouge Modern Quilt Guild meeting I decided to join in the Bernina / Sugaridoo Quilt Along. It was easy to settle on an indigo and off-white colors scheme. I've been collecting those indigo fabrics long enough. Someone suggested a touch of yellow, mustard perhaps. Hmm, mustard. Wait, mustard, I like that!

I wanted to post pictures of my fabric pull on Instagram (#sugaridooberninaqal #Mettlerthread), so I started by pulling out all the indigo pieces. There are more than enough. I guess I've been collecting for a while. I chose five to begin with.

I'll ...

Modern Art Quilt - Red, White and Pointy from I Love Baby Quilts!

My eight year old daughter recently picked this quilt out of some inspiration photos I had saved over the years as her big girl quilt. I wish I could find where I got the photo so I could attribute the praise properly, if anyone recognizes it, I'd love to give proper credit!

First, I took the photo and reverse engineered some measurements, based on how big I wanted the quilt to be.

Next I cut strips and started sewing and laying them out on the design wall.

And voila, a top was born. I just eyeballed the measurements of ...
