Simple, yet elegant! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Hmmm --- I'll have to try the Sirius radio prize myself! I'm not a huge fan of the radio, and we no longer have radios in the house. Does anyone have a radio anymore? I stream using apps (yep - more apps!), but I find the reception in the basement isn't the greatest, or the app sucks, and it cuts out. So then I listen to nothing or I listen to Spotify. I'll check it out! The same goes for Alexa - I used to use Alexa for the radio, but I'm afraid Alexa has retired from my ...

Visiting Home from Mama Spark's World

September starts and stops from Elsie Quilts

The start for this month: I finished a little fall quilt to hang in my window. It was easy and a temptation to do some free-motion practice, but maybe later. I had other things happening...

One was a quilt for a refugee that is now on the longarm. Picture later. It is coming along fine, but I'm off my feet a bit, but not fully stopped because of this other thing that happened...

Our youngest son got married on Friday, the first of September. We prayed for good weather -- it rained Thursday and the smoke from wildfires in BC ...

Binding the DWR from Becca's Crazy Projects

It has been months since I quilted the Double Wedding Ring quilt. More than six months.
I thought this striped fabric would be the perfect binding.
I grabbed my Magical Rainbow of Binding cheat-sheet from the Geeky Bobbin. This wonderful chart (just sign up for the Geeky Bobbin's newsletter) is free and wonderful.
It helps you calculate the number of strips you need to bind your quilt. I needed nine for my quilt.
I love a stripy binding. I accordion fold my binding so it is easy to store and attach. Curious about how I attach my binding? You ...

Positive progress from The Academic Quilter

Hi all! How are things going for you? I'm just hanging out, watching it rain and getting over that stupid embolism. I am feeling MUCH better, plus I'm glad to see the rain, even though it's been going on for a while now. Unbelievably, we still haven't made up for all the rain we didn't get for weeks, and we're still way below average for the year. It hardly seems possible given the amount of water that has fallen from the sky over the last week.

While I'm lazing around, I'm working ...

And Two Shall Become One from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

Well, it's taken me a while, but I think I've finally composed a wedding post. It takes a while to sort through 4000 photos. I know I'm biased, but this post will be filled with fabulous wedding photos.

Outtakes from a Wedding from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

Our girl has a college friend who is a photographer that lives in California and she asked our girl to 'PLEASE let me shoot your wedding' and the memories she captured are magic. She also took the engagement photos and will be at the reception next week as well. I've decided we're just going to adopt her. Not only is she a talented photographer, but she's just a delightful girl. She even slept on

Family Wedding and Kakahu from Romany Quilting

This week we attended a family wedding.  The venue is so popular that Saturday bookings are not available for the next two years.  So Robin’s niece Hanah (daughter of Kaye and Jan from Nelson where we spent a wonderful Christmas) and her bridegroom chose a Tuesday wedding, followed by a casual BBQ lunch for all the guests on Wednesday.

It was a garden wedding, with guests from as far away as Ireland  from the groom’s side of the family.  When the ceremony was concluded, and the photos taken, we sat outside in the sunshine with drinks and nibbles ...

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

It has been months since I worked on this quilt. I picked up the backing a couple months ago but hadn't gotten around to quilting. I decided it was time to make some progress. I designed the label using my embroidery design software. I like to embroider the label directly onto the backing fabric.
I used my new roll of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Cotton Blend batting. I'm happy I decided to try this batting. It's great! I like the definition it gives the quilting.
I chose a dark gray thread.
Loaded and got quilting.
The quilting ...

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

I started cutting out this quilt in May 2022. I've been working on it pretty steadily for a couple weeks now.
I've been sharing little snippets on Instagram when I finish a ring.
Each is unique.
Then I hit the tipping point where each seam creates a larger and larger piece and you just know the top will be finished soon.
I finished the top. As with many of my quilt projects, this one will get set aside until I can buy some appropriate backing fabric. This quilt begs for quilting designed specifically for the Double Wedding Ring ...

Bride and Groom Patterns from Made By Marney

Here’s my new go to gift for bridal showers and weddings…

The BRIDE AND GROOM POTHOLDERS are hot off my press and available to create all kinds of lovely gifts for newlyweds.

THE BRIDE paper pieced block has 3 tiny buttons that resemble flowers. I found them at Hobby Lobby. You could also use tiny silk flowers, or even embroider some tiny flowers with embroidery floss.

THE GROOM block has lots of small pieces, and is not recommended for a beginner paper piecer, but a really fun challenge for an intermediate.

I would love to see what you can ...

With Love and Best Wishes from From the Strawberry Patch...

At long last I can share what I've been keeping under wraps for months! Our Pastor and his fiancée were married on Saturday, it was a glorious day filled to overflowing with love and happiness. Earlier in the year I thought it might be a great gift from the congregation to present them with a quilt full of best wishes on their wedding day. Every part of this project was top secret! The bride had

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

I finally reached the point where I wanted to start sewing some of the melons together. Don't expect the final quilt to look like this. I move pieces around every time I look at it.
I think I have all the pieces cut. Big, involved quilts like this always take way longer than I think and I was pretty sure this one would take a while.

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

I'm still making slow progress on my double wedding ring quilt. I love how these fabrics will become a wonderful, scrappy quilt someday. Those pieced arcs are just so great. I'm still cutting and rearranging as I go. I'm sure I will settle on a layout when I start sewing the pieces together. Even then, I may adjust as I start sewing.

Florid Bloom Finish from Becca's Crazy Projects

I quilted this quilt back in January. Where has the year gone? I finally got around to attaching the binding.
It's stripy and wonderful! A great finish even if it took a long time.

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

I continue to cut and layout pieces for my double wedding ring quilt. I've only made a couple pieced arcs. They aren't perfect but that is the sewist, not the templates. I will get it sorted out before assembly. Overall, this is a great project. Slow and great.
I pieced a bunch of arcs. These are potato chip sewing. The kind of thing you can't have just one of.
I will keep cutting and hanging these pieces on my design wall. I'm not sure how big the finished quilt will be but I love where it ...

Double Wedding Ring from Becca's Crazy Projects

Like many quilters I aspire to make wonderful quilts. Also, I like quilt rulers and templates. I picked up the double wedding ring and large melon templates to go with my copy of Double Wedding Ring Quilts book from Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
I pulled a stack of fabrics I think will work and started cutting.
I don't have a grand plan right now. This will be long-term project where I cut some pieces, sew some pieces, and look at the design wall to see how it is coming together. One of the exciting parts is that the little wedges ...
