Custom Fly Away Quilted Wall Hanging from Busy Hands Quilts

Another finish from 2019 that I haven't shown you is a Fly Away wall hanging, made as a custom order.  My client chose the Kona Cottons to get the look he was after.

A rod pocket was not attached as the client was hanging the quilt with a wooden quilt hanger that holds the quilt between two layers of wood.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Fly Away, available right here.
Size:  48" square, resized from pattern.
Fabric:  All Kona Cotton solids.
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Quilting:  Maze design on Gratitude my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher

A pair of wall hangings from Stitchin' Therapy

A pair of small wall hangings kept me busy over the weekend.
The first was simple and plain until I added the trio of butterflies. I found a few of these ready to fuse in place.  Some matching thread to zig zag down the edges and I was happy with the results.  With the warmer days right now, I long for spring.
The binding on this one was leftovers I found in the scrap bin.  Both were the  flange binding but I simply joined them and pretended it was the same all around.

I also took a close up photo ...

Valentine's Day from Stitchin' Therapy

Dropping in to say Happy Valentine's Day!  Sharing a favorite wall hanging from 2013.

And to let everyone know I am still hanging on.  It has just been a painful month.  Some days I have trouble holding a coffee cup.   When the weather goes thru such drastic changes in 7 days, it plays havoc on my body.  It was 70 degrees on a Tuesday,  On Thursday the rains began and stayed until we had over 6 inches of of runoff forming rivers in the yard and streets...etc.  Winds and tornadoes happened on Friday.  And Saturday we turned cold ...

3D - Float Your Hills and Valleys from Creatin' in the Sticks

The December Challenge for the Island Batik Ambassadors is
3D
and

today I'm excited to share
Float Your Hills and Valleys.

As an Island Batik Ambassador for 2019
every month there is an ambassador challenge.

December's 3D Challenge is all about using
optical illusions,
textures, trapunto, or whatever else makes
a quilt pop into life.

For this month's project, I started with a block pattern
I had designed for the
A Time For All Seasons Block of the Month
I added another column to make the block
12" x 12" finished.

Next, I picked ...

Faceted Churn Dash {Finished Wall Hanging} from Little Bunny Quilts

If you are in our Honey, Bunny, and Doll FB group, you've seen all of the progress on this wall hanging!

I hosted a "casual QAL" for our Faceted pattern collection on FB this fall -- it was a lot of fun to do something from an already written pattern rather than a brand new pattern and it's something I will do again!

Returning back to the beginning, I cut the majority of the scraps used in this project using my Accuquilt cutter.

A lot of half-square triangles later, I incrementally made the pieces and parts for this quilt ...

Crafters' Retreat from The Cozy Quilter

Christine and I spent the weekend at Camp...we each brought numerous projects with us and I am happy to report that progress was made on everything!

My ironing board is almost due for a new cover---ignoring that, you can see I worked on my flannel vortex baby quilt--my third flannel vortex quilt (I have also done one out of cotton quilting scraps).  This quilt involves lots of sewing, pressing, trimming, and then more sewing, pressing and trimming. I went home with some larger chunks, ready to be made into a quilt top.

I started a new Christmas quilt--no pattern ...

Slow Stitching Report (and a couple of pouches) from The Cozy Quilter

I have been working on cleaning up my sewing room this week.  It is looking much better but there is still work to do.  I found this Christmas tree block in a pile and decided to make it into a little wall hanging.  I quilted it with wavy lines using my walking foot and some bright green thread, which doesn't really show up very well in this picture!  I have a bin with leftover binding in it and found this red and white striped binding.  I added it to the quilted block and will hand stitch it down this ...

Quilted Wall Hangings from Pieced Brain

Our mountains here in Utah are already capped with snow - a gorgeous sight! It is difficult to pick a favorite season in this part of our world because they all have their special allure, but when the snow falls over those mountain peaks, it is all I can do to keep my eyes off them.

All photographs by Jason Masters for Leisure Arts. Used with permission.
This quilted wall hanging by Alicia Steele, published in the book Quilted Wall Hangings by Leisure Arts depicts what I see at sunset every day, and I am absolutely in love with it! The ...

Modern Prism Quilted Wall Hanging from Busy Hands Quilts

Ah, the Modern Prism quilt never fails to delight with its bright, planned simplicity.

The fabric is Michael Miller Cotton Couture, and I love the hand of this fabric.  It is so soft and smooth and frays very little, if at all.  It's such a pleasure to work with such high quality fabric!

I had a Modern Prism quilt kit in my stash and knew that I would never make it without a deadline because I am always so busy with more pressing projects.  I had a request earlier this year for a small version of the quilt, 32 ...

Coming Home--Trees ready to appliqué from The Cozy Quilter

Well, I am finally back at work on my Coming Home quilt.  I am a few months behind the crowd, but I will catch up, eventually!  Today, I prepped the appliqué trees for the next border.  Everything is glue basted and ready for me to sew by hand this weekend.

I have my threads, my applique needles, my LED light and my thimble...I am prepared!

All these trees should keep me busy all weekend.

I did some other sewing this week too...  This is November's comfort quilt block for the Elgin Piecemakers--Grey, yellow and white squares made into ...
