Day 36: Airplane Blanket This family favorite was made for my kids, in the late 90s, from a delightful print of animals flying airplanes.

The border features consecutive yellow triangles, called "flying geese," made into giant arrows with the help of a multi-colored stripe serving as each arrow's shaft.

Vintage Quilt Blocks from Magpie Quilts

Often I get requests to finish something started by another quilter from the past and this year I received a collection of pre-cut stars and some assembled blocks from a client's grandmother.

I was unable to use the blocks that were already pieced together as the center points didn't match up, they weren't all square and they didn't lay flat.

I was really sad that I wasn't able to as someone had made a lot of effort to match up solids and prints to make a large quilt.

Pandemic Porch Quilt Show, Day 20: Rolling Pansies from Gefilte Quilt

I made this quilt in the 90s, finishing the work of an unknown quiltmaker.

It started as a flea market find: a metal cookie tin, full of petals and leaves. Many petals were beautifully turned under with a lovely, even basting stitch in thick white thread. I couldn't bear to take the maker's stitches out, so I left them in place whenever possible.

This "pansy" is a traditional quilting motif, from the 1930s I think. The fabrics - primarily calico florals - look like they're from the 1960s. Each flower has six components, 5 petals, plus one leaf. The ...

From Vintage Linen Stack to Quilted! Red and White Bliss from Gefilte Quilt

When I was a mere youth, in my 40s, I still believed I would live forever, so I bought a lot of vintage linens and embroideries at my favorite flea markets and thrift shops. Over the years, I accrued quite the collection.
Now, a zillion years older, the pandemic quarantine has given me the time, space, and motivation to stitch some of my best old linens into this new 79" x 82" quilt. Front:

Bee Well from Michelle's Romantic Tangle

Sill here, still stitching, still doing a lot of reading, and still not managing to take pictures of finished projects to post them. That's why there was no mid-year totals post this year. Well, that and the fact that there weren't a lot of finishes by the end of June.

Delightful Doilies and Linens from the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

A couple of weeks ago, Teri and I (Kara) were able to attend the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show. We go there yearly, as it falls right before The Academy of Appliqué. It is a small show, but it usually has a great variety of quilts, and this year was no different. One exhibit in particular became our favorite, as it gave us lots of great ideas for our very large doily collection. This exhibit was created by Nancy S. Breland and was called Exploring Vintage Linens. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Vintage Four-Patch from Becca's Crazy Projects

This is what my cutting table looks like most of the time. I move on to the next project and leave a pile of leftovers to put away later. This slows down some of my creativity, but not enough to keep me from doing it again. I had a bunch of strips and squares leftover from my Star Storm Quilt. I decided to trim down some of those leftovers to make some simple four-patch in four-patch blocks.

Remember these two plates that I saw at an estate sale and didn't buy?
