read moreI’ve decided to sell the Vintage Christmas placemats we made over our quilt along. Since we no longer entertain in our home, I just don’t need them. They have never been used, only displayed on my tables last Christmas. I’ve divided them into groups of four. If you’d like to purchase one or more groups, please let me know. The placemats are all paper pieced, with some having embroidered embellishments.
The quilting is a gently curving design, using a taupe color thread which adds texture to the backgrounds and disappears over the piecing.
The binding matches ...
read moreThe placemats are finally done!! When we left off last time, I had all the embroidery work done on the placemats and was ready to quilt them. All the blocks had three inch strips of the directional ornament fabric put on each side for a placemat size of 12 x 18.
I loaded the longarm with a big piece of the ornament fabric for backing, and placed the little mats close to each other in a long row. I had to be mindful of the directional print of the backing.
Auditioning thread colors, I decided on the medium taupe Glide ...

While I was at Beginnings Quilt Shop recently, I found this great Christmas print on sale. I bought the rest of the bolt, almost six yards. I plan to use it for the side bars, backing and binding for all the blocks to be made into placemats. The ...

Moving on to sewing today, the final two blocks in our Vintage Christmas Quilt Along are the Mug and Stocking. After doing ten other blocks, these went pretty fast. By now we are all familiar with how these instructions are written and where to look for extra information on the illustrations.
Once again, I chain pieced ...
read moreI hope you are having a nice holiday weekend. Before we get started with today’s quilt along, I need to let you know two things. First, the Jolly Bar Quilt Along has been postponed to June 29, as there have been some delays in shipping due to reduced staff at the FQS warehouse. They are working hard to get all the orders fulfilled, and the delay will allow everyone to be able to begin together. Second, see the announcement regarding Bluprint at the bottom of this post. Today is the fourth Monday, so we’ll get a little farther ...

read moreARRRGGGHHH!! I totally forgot that this past Monday was the fourth one! Somehow I was thinking it was next week. Forgive me for being late with our Vintage Christmas Quilt Along. Luckily, I did have the blocks done, I just forgot to write it up for this week. Without further ado, lets sew two more blocks.
Starting with the mitten pattern, I cut all my bits and labeled them as usual.
The pattern begins with making the little heart, note that the top and bottom are sewn differently.
Make sure your point is the way you want it before you ...

read moreToday we begin the Vintage Christmas Quilt Along, welcome!! This will be a six month quilt along, with two blocks each month. This will give you 12 blocks that you can then make into a quilt, placemats or table runner, or continue on your own making more blocks. We’ll have half of summer and all of autumn to quilt and finish so it can be enjoyed for the holidays this year.
