Weekly update: exhibits and celebrations + two finishes + reading from With Strings Attached

I took a little excursion Friday afternoon.   Every year the Racine Art Museum hosts an exhibit of Peeps art.  Entries come from studio artists, kids, city/county departments, and every day people.  Such punny fun!

Top: Peeping Beauty School of Cosmetology; Frida; No Mistakes, Just Happy Little Peeps (Bob Ross). Center: from the Racine city dept. of development; Arthur; "Peepal Conclave."   Bottom: Don Quixote; The Scream.

Of course I liked "They Read Banned Books."

In the upstairs gallery at RAM:  paper cutting. Exquisite!

The top left and center right are Polish (or Polish-style).  Upper right:  Japanese.  Lower left:  I think ...

Friday check in: two more flimsies from With Strings Attached

Warm weather and sunshine for yesterday's walk.

My jacket is Air Light from L.L. Bean. One of the women on the New Zealand trip had three of the pullover models and on her recommendation I got this one.  (This color was on sale. :)) It is just the right weight and warmth.

Mr. and Mrs. Crane were taking a walk, too.

I'm all in for the Villa Rosa Designs Six Quilts in Six Weeks challenge!

Flimsy #5 is Lollipop.  It was super-easy to piece.  I used homespuns with a Thimbleberries print for the background.    I'm not wild ...

Midweek: two flimsies! from With Strings Attached

I had a couple of errands Monday morning and took a quick walk at the state park on my way home.  (Yes, the lakefront is that close to home.  In the top photo in the collage my house is at the very left edge, just below the halfway point.)    The brisk northwest wind was chilly.

That's a yucca on the lower right.

Zion Woman's Club met at noon yesterday.  The speaker was the recycling coordinator from SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) -- I wrote about his presentation to AAUW last month. I asked him to do the ...

Weekly update: Easter, two finishes, and a six-part challenge from With Strings Attached

Easter Sunday was cool but the sunshine was abundant.

I went to church in the morning and had a nice long walk at Van Patten Woods in the afternoon.

Sumac, fungus, mullein.  The place names Des Plaines and O'Plaine are corruptions of "eau pleine" meaning "full of water," which is how the early French explorers saw the river in flood. You can see why.

I had to work off some of the gustatory delights of the day.  I made a half-batch of pancakes, our customary holiday breakfast.  The pancake mix (Christmas 2024 gift) still had enough baking powder oomph ...

Friday check in: top-a-long + reading from With Strings Attached

Thanks to everyone who's asked for our address for Stevens' birthday card shower. It's not too late--PM me to send the address.

Quick post this morning.   The Running Doe top-a-long (what is that? read details here) is a flimsy.

I cut into a few Kaffe prints, including the spashy center flowers.  I used up the large part of several others.  (I'm trying to get over the "can't cut this!" hurdle.)

Midweek: 25 blocks, OMG 2025, top-a-long from With Strings Attached

All 25 Old Town blocks are assembled.  I think the design looks good this way but the sashing, which I have yet to make, kicks it up several notches.  I will persevere.

I've begun something new.

I signed up for the Top-a-long with Running Doe Quilts .  She is a designer for Villa Rosa. One pattern a month with the goal of making a flimsy.  Getting it quilted is not required.  The January pattern is Amelia .

These are big blocks -- 17" finished -- and that 8-1/2" center square called for the jumbo Kaffe flowers.

My One Monthly Goal for January ...

Blog hop reveal -- with prizes! from With Strings Attached

I'm honored to be among the bloggers participating in this year's VRD blog hop.

Here's the story behind Villa Rosa: We call Pat Fryer, the owner and the creator of the Villa Rosa Designs brand, our Rose Queen, because she absolutely adores roses.  In fact, her love of roses helped her name her new venture in 2010.  When she designed her first Rose Cards, she had a brilliant and unique idea to name ALL of her VRD patterns after Roses (also why we call them Rose Card patterns).  For many years, all of the patterns were named ...

Worldwide Quilting Day from From My Carolina Home

Tomorrow is Worldwide Quilting Day, and our local guild is having an exhibit for the day. If you are local, please stop by the Blue Ridge Mall in Hendersonville, NC on Saturday, March 16, 10 am to 3 pm to see the 34 challenge quilts and cast a vote for your top three favorites. The challenge was to take page 42 from a non-quilting magazine as the inspiration for a wall hanging size quilt. Page 42 is for our 42nd year as a guild. Viewer’s choice winners get some great prizes, and our local quilt shop, Beginnings, will be ...
