August 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

A lot of life happened here in July, but I managed to finish two projects. One wasn’t on the list and I forgot to post it. The other was Wallflower (the challenge quilt).

The list isn’t changing much for August.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): Words of Joy Tree, pattern by Ursula Michael. I’m stitching this on red 14 count aida with DMC white, all from stash.

Project 2 (UFO ...

Soha and Frogkisser from Sew Preeti Quilts

Me: I avoid cleaning and organizing.
Paul: Of course, I clean only when it is absolutely essential.
Me: I am glad you agree.
Paul: Let sleeping critters lie
Me: Exactly. When I do clean/organize, I get attacked by squirrels.

At this moment, Paul lost the thread of conversation.

In anticipation of the second shipment of Island Batik Ambassador boxes, I had to clean house, get rid of some scraps and make room for the new supplies.

In doing so, I came across some star blocks, that date back to 2015, I think. Who knows? It was so long ago ...

A Different Friday Finish from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Have you ever been disappointed in the direction a quilting project is going? Have you ever been frustrated with a technique and felt like throwing in the towel? Have you ever wondered why you thought a particular group of fabrics would look good together? Have you ever decided midway through a quilt that it is not your style? If you have been quilting any time at all, you probably have a few of these projects.

I have quilts that fall into all of those categories. Typically I tuck them away in a bin, rediscover them a few years later, then ...

July 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

June was a productive month. I finished two stitches, Floral Butterfly and the star ornament. The ornament wasn’t on my June list.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): Words of Joy Tree, pattern by Ursula Michael. I’m stitching this on red 14 count aida with DMC white, all from stash.

Project 2 (UFO): The membership quilt. The two sections are complete and ready to quilt.

Project 3 (original): The challenge due in ...

May 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

May snuck up on me. I got up one morning and there it was, not nearly as warm as it ought to be.

I didn’t finish anything in April. As it sometimes happens, the finishes will come all at once. Good thing there are projects in the wings to prevent the mad scramble for new projects.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. If I don’t finish ...

Sunday Stash March 26, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

The second border is on all pieces of the membership quilt, which I decided to name Remember Me.

One more border to go and the sections will be ready to quilt. No idea how I will quilt this one, but open to suggestions.

Stash Report March 19, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers. There were opportunities to add fabric, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

My sewing room is a hot mess because I have too many projects going at once…again. I’ve made some progress on the Membership Quilt borders.

My other two projects are piled one on top of the other next to my other sewing machine. I will not start another project until I finish two of the three I have going. Wonder how many times I will have to repeat that in the next few months before it sticks?

Fabric In: 18 ...

Sunday Stash March 5, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I sewed the rows together on the membership quilt and added the first of three borders.

The next border will be piano keys, followed by another muslin border. I’m not usually one for a lot of borders, but the quilt needs more width. I’m only adding borders to the sides.

Fabric out: 2.675 yard

Net Fabric In: 15.825 yards

March 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

When March rolls around I think of Spring. The days are longer and I want to spend time outside. The weather doesn’t always cooperate, but a girl can hope.

I finished both the pinwheel quilt and the table runner in February. It always feels good to add new projects to the list.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I continually change the categories as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. The border stitched up faster than the solid ...

Sunday Stash February 19, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

This week wasn’t the week I’d planned, and a whole lot of things didn’t get done. I did finish the runner, which I will post later as a OMG finish.

I hadn’t counted the fabric for the top in, but the backing and binding came out of stash.

Since I didn’t have anything new to show, I decided to post a picture of the block in the center of my membership UFO.

The applique is beautiful and needed to be showcased.

Fabric out: 1.375 yard

The Next Lucky Project from Quilt Paint Create

With two quilts finished, it’s time start another project that hasn’t seen the light of day in far too long.

Years ago I went to a quilt group that made “membership quilts”. Starting with the person who had been in the group the longest, that person defined what quilt block she wanted and everyone made her one. Each member chose a theme and the size. When my turn came, I chose 12” blocks in 30s reproduction fabrics. The block design was the maker’s choice.

Based on the dated blocks, I received mine in late 2006/early 2007 ...

What Next? from Quilt Paint Create

The challenge quilt has been my focus, but it no longer has a deadline. The group will not submit quilts to AQS this year after several members had a whole lot of life happen recently, not in a good way. Maybe next year.

My attention switched back to the pinwheel quilt, which should be finished in the next week. I will continue working on the challenge quilt (note to self – come up with a real name), but I need another project. The creative possibilities for the challenge increased when the time constraints disappeared. Sounds like an opportunity to experiment.

Sticking ...

Weekly Word: Psalms 30:5 Joy comes in the Morning + Books, Stitching and Gratitude! from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Hello There!
I'm so glad you stopped in for a visit!  Have you heard of the saying "things happen in threes?"  Have you ever had one of those weeks where you experience the "threes" and they get progressively worse?
Sure you have.  We all have.  I just had one of those weeks.  Ug. And more ug.
This week's Weekly Word is breaking off from Psalm 25 and I'll share how God helped me deal with this past week.
On a different note, My Reading Life was placed on the back burner as I had great visits with ...

2023 Goals...a new year with changes from previous years from Dreamworthy Quilts

NOTE TO READERS:  This post features quilts you have seen already lately and is mostly for my own record keeping.  I am not really trying to bore you with repetition.

New in 2023:

  • I joined the Stashbee and look forward to doing a block each month for someone else.
  • I also joined a local round robin which involves making two blocks a month for someone else.
  • I plan to start AND FINISH several projects I purchased last year.  My intent is to finish it within or close to a year of purchase.
  • Scrub Stitching Retreat in Australia - yay yay hooray ...

Another One Done from Heart Desire Creations

Whew! My goal for this month was to finish my charity quilts and am thrilled that I am almost there. This quilt top was at first destined to be a Hospice quilt. I changed course when I realized I could add some borders and it be a quilt top to send to Snuggled in Hope Quilts, whose volunteers create quilts & pillowcases for campers and families who attend Flying Horse Farms in Ohio whose mission is to make it possible for children with serious illnesses to heal, grow, and thrive. Selfishly, in addition to it being a great cause to donate ...

Red Letter Day! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Another day, another flimsy; no, actually it's a day to celebrate: here's "Red Letter Day", a completed quilt top at long last! I'd been very, very far behind on this block-of-the-month. This one took some full speed concentration and focused effort but, today, it's together and there's no looking back. This applique block brings me joy- I fussy cut that circle from a charm square, it appears to

August 2022 OMG and Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month down, another project finished. I met my goal last month of sewing a shirt. I’ve done well this year finishing my OMGs, which has kept my projects moving.

There are quite a few changes in the list this month.

Project One: I’m still stitching My Sewing Treasures by Bobby G Designs.

Project Two: I started working on a UFO I picked up off the charity table at Guild. Whoever started it including a picture of what the planned quilt would look like, but I’m not going there. I’ll sew up all the pinwheel pieces ...

Good News and Just News from Quilt Paint Create

First, the good news.

Our Art 2 Quilt group’s challenge quilts were accepted into the Ultimate Guild Challenge at AQS Grand Rapids (August). We were all very excited! More on that once the show is closer.

The other news is the book that inspired The Wall Quilt blocks came in at the library. The not so good news is that it didn’t jog my memory. I have a rough idea of where I was going with the idea, but I’m basically starting over.

The book contained detailed instructions on how to build stone walls, steps and patios ...

July 2022 OMG and Short List from Quilt Paint Create

The new month came quickly, leaving me scrambling to figure out the next projects. So many choices, limited time.

I met my goal last month of finishing the Pumpkin Patch top, and then finished the quilt shortly after. The next project on the mindless list is a quick sew.

Project One: I’m still stitching My Sewing Treasures by Bobby G Designs.

Project Two: I haven’t worked on the band sampler. I’m debating if I stitch the rest of the bands or just the final colored band to balance it out.

Project Three: I’m sewing a simple ...
