Changing Station from Mama Spark's World

I don't often make 3-D items like bags and such.  I decided to make a Changing Station (Patterns by Annie) for Avery.  Talk about intimidating!!!  Just for me though, as I am always so nervous about making bags.I bought all the things I needed to make it and then I let it sit...for months.  As the birth got closer I figured I really needed to bite the bullet and start it.  It was SO SCARY!  I

Tekenen, knippen, plakken.

Groet, Marina.

Tula Strings from Heart Desire Creations

At last! This quilt was a fair amount of prep, much sewing and now it’s done! What’s even better – I love it! The solids are all shot cottons and the prints are various Tula Pink prints, all of which are now out of print and many considered rare. I was originally inspired to do this quilt by one done by Quilt Diva Julie that she calls Optic Strings. I posted about this quilts beginning here.

There are playful blocks!  See the racoon’s eyes peeking out?

And one of my favorites – Prince Charming!

Zip It Up bags from Wendy's Quilts and More

A couple of weeks ago I watched Tula Pink's video launching her new black and white fabric line - Linework (It won't be available for months yet, so don't panic).  Towards the end of the video Tula showed two Zip It Up! bags she had made.  I thought they looked amazing so I dashed off and ordered the pattern from the Ribbon Rose in Auckland.

Here's a link to Tula's video.  The bags appear at about 22 minutes in.

Of course we can't get Linework yet, so I ordered some half yards of Tula's ...

Tula Pink teaches English Paper Piecing from Fat Quarter Shop's Jolly Jabber

Fabulous fabric designer Tula Pink, of Free Spirit Fabrics, came to the Fat Quarter Shop studio to give us an in-depth look at how she uses English Paper Piecing. You’ll want to watch all three tutorials to start out on the right foot with these techniques!

Tula’s gorgeous Tula Nova pattern is a great way to flex your EPP skills like Tula did on her Tula Nova pillow.

So what exactly is English Paper Piecing (EPP)? It is a technique of stabilizing fabric using a paper template. It’s different from regular paper piecing because each piece is ...

A MINI ADVENTURE from That's Sew Kerry

When I Met Tula!

I don't think I ever told you about the time I met Tula Pink - major fan girl moment, I was really impressed with myself that I actually managed to get whole sentences out and they even made some sense!

There's always that worry that if you meet an idol or someone you greatly admire, they may not quite live up to expectations etc, but she really did! Tula was so kind and down to earth, she walked around the room before hand, talking to everyone, having a little sit down looking at the projects ...

WHY DO YOU QUILT? from That's Sew Kerry

A Question Often Asked

I've had this post rattling around in my head for a while, something has always stopped me writing it, I'm not sure what really but now in the midst of 'isewlation' due to this horrid Coronavirus outbreak it seems like a good time to finally get it out. For those of you that have read the dreaded 'C' word and immediately got put off - it is the only time it appears here.

What on earth are you doing? What's the point in cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into smaller ...

Fat Quarter Quilts! Tips for Choosing Fabric … watch Stephanie do a fabric pull from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Scrappy and fat quarter quilts are so much fun to make, but choosing fabric that looks nice together can be one of the hardest parts of the process.

In today’s bonus video, Stephanie turned the camera on while she narrowed 42 fat quarters from Tula Pink’s True Colors collection down to 14 for a quilt she is working on for her next book.

The video is a little different format than we normally make because I literally only have an idea of what I want for color when we start, and you get a peak into my thought ...

Hallucinating with my Spirit Animal from If These Threads Could Talk

I was entertaining my self with Facebook when I saw a post by my friend and fellow Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor, Karen Overton The Quilt Rambler. Here is some of what she wrote: “The idea began with a talented quilter named Jessica of Jessica Quilter also known on Instagram as @Jessicaquilter. Seems the good folks at Just Wanna Quilt picked up on her inspiration and ran with it! More details can be found here on the JWQ website. Jessica had an idea to use a little bit of her favorite fabrics from her “inventory” and the rest they say ...
