Spring Fling quilt from Charm About You

spring fling quilt by Lucy Brennan | Charm About You

I'm so lucky that I get to have SO MUCH FUN creating designs with bright and beautiful fabric. For this quilt I picked out prints from Zuma by Tula Pink and a range of colours from Tula Pink solids.  A classic block in the centre and medallion style borders made with a mix of regular machine piecing and foundation paper piecing, make for a modern and dynamic quilt. My Spring Fling quilt pattern is in Issue 71 of Love Patchwork & Quilting - out now!

The detail in the prints is just amazing, there's so many that I thought were ...

An All Stars Assembly from Liz Makes Crafts

I really enjoy the slow pace and different flow of English Paper Piecing projects, but if I thought Supernova was time-consuming, it was nothing compared to All Stars. I started actively working on this quilt top in June of last year, and I think no less than 200 hours went into it.

The most challenging part of this quilt is actually the fabric selection, which I did back in May. I resisted the urge to go with a kit (which is crazy expensive anyway), and instead painstakingly picked out my own fabrics (but still all Tula Pink), and allowing the ...

Bonjour à toutes! je suis du genre tête-en-l’air / pressée / bordélique ( cocher la réponse qui vous correspond aussi ! ). Fortunate Impromptu Shop Hop from Bonnie's Girl

Since Wednesday I have managed to visit 5 different quilt shops without leaving the state, participating in a planned shop hop, or even traveling on a bus tour.  Wednesday, I traveled from my little town to nearby Hannibal, Missouri--yes, Mark Twain's hometown--and spent a few minutes in both of the quilt stores in historic downtown.  Both Bits and Pieces and The Hickory Stick are nestled in the midst of the Mark Twain Museum and surrounding shops and carry a fine array of the best fabrics and patterns.

Last night, a friend and I went to the northwest corner of ...

Aurora Sampler Quilt – Month 2 from Blossom Heart Quilts

Hands up who else is feeling the rapid increase of time lately?! And no, I’m not talking about the new season of Doctor Who starting (although, how awesome was that first episode?! I’m excited about where this season is heading!). Which is why I’m secretly a little chuffed that I’ve already sewn up this month’s blocks for the Aurora BOM. In fact, I got them done in the first week of October during school holidays!

freemotion quilted circles over moth and wavy lines over background
By now if you follow me you know I am really an emotional quilter/crafter. I attach to certain things I choose and often it comes from a somewhere deep inside that usually circles back to my mom.

Quilt-As-You-Go Double-Sided Placemat Tutorial with FREE pattern! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

I just love Quilt-As-You-Go Placemats. I have so many that I have created using my favorite 2 1/2-inch strip rolls. I just love how each one turns out a little different, but they all are clearly part of one set showing off the fabrics from your favorite line. And the best part, because this is Quilt-As-You-Go, when you are done sewing, you are also done quilting and you just have to bind your placemat!

But when I saw Tula Pink’s De La Luna I knew I had to also make these placemats double sided and use all three ...

Vibrant Curiosities in QuiltNSW Exhibition 2018 from Wendy's Quilts and More

My second entry in the QuiltNSW show also won a prize!  It was my Vibrant Curiosities quilt - English Paper Pieced and hand quilted - and it won second prize in the Pieced Quilt Large (Amateur) category.

This quilt is my own original design, made completely from 1"octagons and 1" squares.  I used Tula Pink fabrics for the blocks, and Kaffe Fassett on the border.

If you've been following my blog for a while, and think it looks familiar, that will be because I entered it in the New Zealand Quilt Symposium last year.  You can read all the details ...

A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING from That's Sew Kerry

Everything In Its Place

I'm quite late to the party with this one as it seems to have been all the rage circa 2016, but you know me I'm not very good at following trends!
When I first saw these popping up on Instagram I loved the idea of them but thought that's going to take an absolute age to make and mine won't end up looking like that. Now I know nobody likes a know-it-all but I was right, it was very time consuming and not a quick make but this was partly down to ...

Linda’s Spiderweb Quilt from Quilted Joy

Today I have a really interesting quilt to share with you. Linda has a granddaughter in the theater program at her high school. According to her, seeing a spider web in the theatre is good luck, so what better quilt to make for her than a spider web quilt?

Linda made this playful Spider web quilt for her granddaughter and asked me to quilt it with an edge to edge design. We found the perfect design that carried that spiderweb quilt theme!

For those who haven’t seen one of these, a spider web block has an octagon shape that is made by having eight triangles sewn together converging in a center point. Each of these triangles is made of multiple layers that can be equal in length or parallel or not. The ...

Morning has broken - Art with Fabric Spring 2018 from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to Art with Fabric, Spring 2018 edition!

Morning has broken

What if surrealists created happy, colourful art? That's the premise of my art piece today.

Morning has broken
Alida, our amazing host and organiser, chose the theme of 1+1=3. I did some research and while I'm intrigued by surrealism, I find the lack of colour rather depressing. There is enough harshness in the world without my contributing to it. However, when I found a painting featuring an egg as the sunrise, my imagination went into overdrive. I love the concept of the egg as sun ...

Ta-DONE: Tabby Mountain Disco Kitties Wrapped Up & Relinquished. Hallelujah! from Cheeky Cognoscenti

HEY, YOU GUYS!!  My Tabby Mountain quilt is officially Quilted, Bound, Laundered, and finally, FINALLY finished:

Highlights from the Tabby Mountain Photo Shoot
Having been inspired by the mad photography skills exhibited by other quilters on social media, I dragged my husband around against his will took advantage of an overcast Saturday afternoon to drive around in search of the perfect location for a photo shoot.  My favorites are the ones where I wrapped the quilts around the bronze bull statues in the Ballantyne Corporate park.

Something Fishy from Samelia's Mum

It's been a little quiet around here the past few days. The flu has hit hard, so I've spent a lot of time feeling sorry for myself on the couch, bingeing on TV shows, drinking hot drinks and crocheting. I've also had plenty of time (though not always the inclination) to work on a "Fishy" little project . These little fishies are made with Tula Pink fabrics - they're are bright, happy and

Three is the magic number! Here are 3 recent quilt finishes, quite different in style, and a little needle book for the cuteness. These were all made for Sewing Quarter, you can catch up with the shows on YouTube and if you keep reading you'll reach the clip I've included that shows how I bind (I'm making the needle case but I sew binding on quilts the same way!).
