traffic jam binding from Making A Lather

Yesterday, I posted my traffic jam finish. Today, I want to share a bit about a new experiment in machine binding I have been doing. One of the presenters at a guild presentation, this fall, mentioned, that, he used steam a seam when attaching his binding. I was intrigued and went to Joann fabrics that night to find what he used.

This is what I chose using a coupon. It was 2.39. I had decided that if that was too expensive, I might use the BYT and cut it myself. The package came with 2 rolls.

I tried it ...

traffic jam finish from Making A Lather

I finished my one monthly goal for December. The quick finish was why I chose this project for the goal. I felt a chance at success and took it. I have worked on this most of the year, off and on. I made the blocks in January at a retreat. I made the top at another retreat on Nov 18.

to do: one monthly goal from Making A Lather

It's December already. We had a few snow drops, yesterday, as it threatens to be winter. I made it to the gym three times last week, and, I went yesterday. So far, no problems. I know it is time to set new goals for the month for my quilting. I still feel a little sluggish from the change of time zones. So, I think I will keep it simple and plan on finishing a quilt that is ready to be quilted. If I get more done than that ...yippee.

to do: cleanup retreat from Making A Lather

Coming home from a quilt retreat is a challenge to unpack and get back to normal. I crammed a lot of projects into my weekend, and my bags. I wanted to pull them out, one by one, and, make sure everything is taken care to put where they belong.

The first project I worked on, was the big easy Christmas. This was my one monthly goal for November. I had it quilted before I left. I used the big tables at the retreat to trim it, and, then, I attached the binding by machine to the back side of the ...

quilt retreat from Making A Lather

One of our guild members is a site manager for Indiana Wesleyan University at Kokomo. She hosts a "stay in your own bed" retreat a couple times a year to benefit IWU scholarship fund. We have a  huge room, our own table, a huge cutting table, ironing boards, snacks, and fun companionship. We can even leave our machines overnight. We couldn't have more than 25 in our retreat due to covid, but, with the uptick in cases, we only had 14.

October goals from Making A Lather

October has arrived and so has chilly weather. It's time to set my goals for the month. I want to quilt 3 quilt tops that have been waiting a long time.

1. quilt big easy Christmas -   I don't have a start date for this one, it was a class at a quilt store that has been closed a long time. I was in love with the Christmas fabric. One of the owners had made a quilt with the fabric and offered the class. I have the back pieced and the binding made.
