Why Not.....Well, Change of Plans from Ravelly1

Ok, so after thinking and then sleeping on it, here's what I decided.....
Here's the Jack O' Lantern I chose but.......well you'll see.

Most of you know my methods of using Heat N' Bond or Steam A Seam to trace off the design pieces then fuse them onto the chosen fabrics so I won't go into that. But I will show pics.

I use the original design to see if I like the placement of the fabrics.

So far so good.

Here I've placed all the parts onto the black background. Now here's ...

Thoughts on Getting More Done from A Quilting Life

Family Tree Quilt by A Quilting Life in Clover Hollow fabric

Hello and happy Friday! August is well under way which means that summer is slowly coming to an end!  It seems like summers really do go by more quickly each year for me.  Just as I get used to a slower, more relaxed routine it seems it’s time to start gearing up for the busyness of the fall season!  And this fall is going to be pretty busy here at A Quilting Life!  But I got caught up enough over the past few weeks that I’ve been able to take some time to brainstorm about how best to ...

She Shed–McCarthy Style from Tales of a Stitcher

I am working out in McCarthy, Alaska right now. It doesn’t get any better than this. I am stitching away in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park. This is our cabin looking pretty spiffy with a new paint job. Around back on the right side is my studio.

I wrote about my McCarthy Sewing Studio several summers ago, and I think it is time for revisit.  Earlier this summer, I posted a photo of the doors to my McCarthy studio on Instagram and tooheycohen commented, “You making a She Shed?”

Green Door Studio

I didn’t even know that term existed, but ...

The McCarthy Road from Tales of a Stitcher

I wrote this essay the day after I drove the McCarthy Road for the first time. That was in August 2001. The images are from the last ten years of driving this road including yesterday.

I start out going ten miles an hour down this dirt road that will lead me to McCarthy, Alaska. I can do this.

I can do this. Even though I know the clanking tire jack in my backseat is there only for making music–I cannot change a tire.  The D, as in dog, I received in Driver’s Education marred my high school academic ...

A Quilting Life | Ten Years from A Quilting Life

Clover Hollow Bundle

Hello and happy Friday! June flew by at lightning speed, and July is just around the corner! I’m really trying to enjoy these carefree summer days as much as possible (although I’ve been working a lot this month)!  And, this Sunday, July 1st, will be the tenth anniversary of A Quilting Life the blog!  I still remember trying to decide on a title for my blog, worrying if anyone would ever read it, and wondering if I was crazy for even starting such a journey!   I began writing here primarily to keep track of my projects but also ...

Summer Quilt Projects & More from A Quilting Life

Urban Cottage Fabrics

Hello and happy Friday!  While the official summer solstice in the northern hemisphere isn’t until next week (June 21st), today feels like the first day of summer for me!  You see, I finished up a good portion of a really big project yesterday!  So today I can finally start on my summer quilt projects and other summer projects I’ve been wanting to do around our home. I’m also going to try to work ahead on some things coming up so that I can have kind of a simplified summer for the next two months!

Yesterday, after finishing ...
