August 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve had to work to find inspiration and motivation this year. Looking online is not the same as seeing quilts and other projects in person. I don’t see that changing this year, at least not where I live. New times call for new ways.
That said, I finished a couple projects last month and can move on to other things.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I ...

Sunday Stash July 5, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.
SS yellow
Fabric went out for the Life Sew Savory Fitted Tee.
Life Sew Savory Tee
This is a form fitting t-shirt pattern. I prefer my clothes a little looser, so I sized up to a medium and didn’t do a back adjustment. I also shortened the shirt four inches. I’m average height, but I like my shirts to hit mid-hip. The original pattern went to the thighs.
This is a super easy pattern to sew. The instructions online are minimal, which wouldn’t make it a good first project. If you have some garment construction experience I highly ...

July 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s time for another list. I’m not sure where my time went in June. It must have gone towards finishing the penguins.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – The plan for Birds In The Branches changed from machine to hand applique. The stitching will take a while.

Garment – I stuck with the third pattern choice, the Life Sew Savory Fitted Tee. I’ll ...

Sunday Stash June 6, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week. I went to my LQS today and didn’t buy anything. They had a sale going, but nothing begged go home with me.
SS yellowI’m still plugging away at my three projects: The HST quilt, the penguins and Birds in the Branches. I cut the leaf shapes for Birds. Most still need the edges turned.
birds with leavesI expect to wash this quilt a couple times a year and I don’t want the applique to fray. Fusing would definitely have been faster.

The June 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month, another list.
I finished two projects in May, A Walk in the Woods and the Hope picture. The rain in May kept me inside a lot. We’ll see if creative projects take a backseat to yard work this month.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – I pulled out a project in the early stages. I believe the pattern is called Birds In ...

No fabric in this week.
I finished A Walk In The Woods Friday for a big jump in fabric used. The quilt measures 50 x 60. It was my May OMG hosted at Elm Street Quilts.
walk in the woods doneMy only purchase this year was the background and binding for this quilt, and I only have scraps left.
I’m excited to move on to new projects. It felt like I worked on that quilt a long time.

Sunday Stash May 3, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.
SS yellowI had to take a break from sewing blocks into rows on A Walk In The Woods to make more face masks. We have to start wearing them at work next week, and I wanted enough to have a clean one every day.
No pictures because I’ve seen enough face mask pictures to last me a lifetime.
I hope to have a finished top to show next week.

May 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s hard to believe it’s time for a new list. I’m hoping the weather will improve and get me out of the house more, but you never know about May. It could be warm, but it could be wet and cool. As long as the sun shines I’m happy.
I finished the UFO, Bears With Borders, in April.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and ...

April 2020 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

Finishing Bears With Borders was my OMG for April.
Bears With Borders doneI had a marathon sewing session last weekend to finish it up. I needed to move on to something different.
My mother bought me the blocks and floss at the Five and Dime when I was maybe five years old to teach me embroidery. I stitched a few and made a hash of them.
I found the kit when I cleaned the last of my stuff out of her house in my 30s. I had picked up hand work again in my late 20s and thought I might finish them someday ...

SS yellowGood progress on Bears With Borders this week. I finished the quilting, squared up the top, made the binding and cut the hanging sleeve. If I don’t finish it today, I will tomorrow. I’m counting the fabric out today and will post a picture of the finished quilt this week.
Next in the queue is A Walk In The Woods, which has been waiting patiently.

April 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s a new quarter and time for new quarterly and semi-annual goals. I had to make some adjustments to April’s goals because I don’t have supplies for some projects and don’t know when I can get them. I just shifted projects forward to the next quarter and picked other goals. I would have picked those projects eventually, and the order isn’t that important. I didn’t finish anything last month but made good progress on three projects.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form ...

Ready To Roll from Quilt Paint Create

Another trying week over. I’m ready to chill and enjoy some quiet time at home.
I pressed all the sewn pieces for A Walk In The Woods and stacked them up, ready to sew.
awitw piecesI decided not to arrange them ahead of time, but just sew them how they are stacked. I’ll switch out pieces that look very similar so they are not next to each other, but I don’t plan to fuss with it any more than that. In the end the pieces will all blend together anyway.
Rain is forecast for the weekend, which means ...

Cutting Complete from Quilt Paint Create

I finally finished cutting the pieces for a Walk in The Woods.
Someone asked how the blocks went together. Sorry, I don’t remember who. The pieces are arranged the way they go together in the blocks.
awitw cutBecause of the way my sewing space is arranged, I needed to finish cutting this quilt before I started quilting Bears With Borders. Now both projects are ready to go in time for the weekend.

March 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished three projects on the list in February. That’s as good as it gets around here. Because I’m setting quarterly and semi-annual goals this year, I will not choose new projects in the categories with finishes until April. I want to make sure I have finishes in all the categories, and this seems like the easiest way to accomplish that.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals ...

Sunday Stash March 1, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week.
I managed to squeeze in one more finish in February by framing the cottage cross stitch.
bluebird cottageI switched the frame to one I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I also laced the back, which is not a method I have used before to frame stitchery. It creates a much nicer finish, and I will use that method exclusively in the future.
I should probably frame another one while the process is fresh in my mind. I know I have at least three other stitched projects that need framed.

Sunday Stash February 16, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric out this week.
I bought 1.5 yards of background fabric for the quilt I’m doing with my sister. I haven’t talked much about it here, but it’s on The Short List.

Regardless of how much fabric you own, at least one project comes around each year that needs something that isn’t in the stash. I found one candidate after a couple nights of auditioning and decided against it because I winced every time I looked at it with the other fabrics. Not the reaction I want when looking at the finished quilt.

January 2020 Short List and Q1 Goals from Quilt Paint Create

Happy New Year!
The Short List got a makeover for the new year. The categories now align with my quarterly goals instead of the more random categories of something old, something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I’ve used this system for over 5 years and think this format is more focused. As always, I can change the categories if my goals or interests change.

December 2019 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished one project on the list last month. I debated adding a fifth category, Mindless Piecing, but decided against it. I can only focus on a couple projects at a time and make decent progress. Adding a fifth category wouldn’t have served a purpose. I’ll have to work mindless piecing into the other categories.
The Short List includes something old (UFO), something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I started using this system in November 2014 to keep myself focused. I add and delete categories as my interests change.
Something Old – I’m plugging away ...
