Playing with the Quilting Border Patterns in the Brother Luminaire from Quilt Social

I’m an embroidery geek. (Surprise!) It started many years ago when my mom, whom I was working for at the time, announced to me that a few days hence we were running an embroidery class. And I was teaching it. Gulp! For me, the embroidery ‘thing’ just escalated from there.

That was back in the days when domestic embroidery machines were just becoming available, when a 4″ x 4″ embroidery area and a glorified calculator-screen were state-of-the-art technology. Do you remember those days?

One of the first Brother home embroidery models… and still going strong!

We’ve come a ...

Pattern Connection By Camera on the Brother Luminaire from Quilt Social

Today’s the day! Pattern Connection By Camera on the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1, herein referred to as the Luminaire (doesn’t that make me sound official?). You know, when I had initially set up my outline of what Luminaire embroidery features to show off this week, in my head I had a progression of the camera-based tools, starting from easiest to hardest. So I sequenced the Snowman Positioning first, the Scanner Function second, and yesterday we saw how easy the Projector made setup. Now, having not played with Pattern Connection by Camera in a while, I actually thought scheduling ...

A wonderful innovation in design positioning: the Luminaire projector from Quilt Social

Hi! Folks… thanks for taking the time to pop in today, as I continue exploring some of the basic-yet-not-so-basic camera features of the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1. “Basic-yet-not-so-basic” – sounds contradictory, doesn’t it? But think about it: all this camera stuff (on a sewing machine, no less!) is pretty darn revolutionary, don’t you think? A mere few years ago, that would have fallen into the category of “What will they think of next?” But really, looking at them, weren’t they so very easy to use?

Yesterday, I looked at the Luminaire’s scanner function, and the day before ...

Design positioning by scanning with the Brother Luminaire from Quilt Social

Oh – I’m so glad you’re back! The Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 feature I covered yesterday, scanning the “Snowman” sticker was so easy – you gotta love it. It’s perfect for getting the design exactly where you want it, such as a chest crest on a t-shirt, or a design smack dab in the middle of a quilt block.

But…(yeah, there’s always a but, isn’t there?) what if I kinda want to decide as I go? Like maybe I want to embroider a butterfly design on fabric printed with flowers, and I want the butterfly just ...

Automatic design positioning on the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 from Quilt Social

Hey, Everyone – I’m excited to explore some more of the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 embroidery toys. Last month when I started playing with some of the very cool embroidery features of the Luminaire, I notably left out any use of the camera functions. But you may also recall me mentioning “Method and Madness” or was it “Madness and Method”? So, this week’s method is to showcase the camera options as applied to embroidery. Over each of the next five days, I’ll experiment with a different camera application. Ready to play along?

Today I’ll take a look ...

Making your own appliques on the Brother Luminaire from Quilt Social

Welcome, back, everyone – looks like this is getting to be a habit, LOL. I’m just having so much fun playing with the toys tucked into the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1, and I’m so glad you could join me again. Yesterday I played with Auto-Stippling on the Luminaire, and today’s playground will introduce yet another toy – one I intend to apply in a bit of a non-traditional use.

Ready to dive in and play? I hope so – because I’ve a fantastic little project I want to show off – a personalized key fob using the Appliqué Creator.

This ...

Create stippling-in-the-hoop with the Brother Luminaire from Quilt Social

Hi, again, folks…Welcome back! When I left off yesterday after meandering through some of the Brother Luminaire embroidery editing tools, I was dithering whether my finished design needed stippling. I love the Design Preview option on the Brother Luminaire…it helps bring “what you imagine” to life with a pretty good picture of a “possible reality”.

If you’ll recall, just before stitching yesterday, I saved my design compilation to the machine’s memory. So today, when I booted up my machine, I recalled yesterday’s design, tried to add stippling to it…and ran into a roadblock: I ...

Playing with the Brother Luminaire embroidery editing tools from Quilt Social

I’m ba-ack! And…obviously, so are you! I’m so glad you’re here to share in the discoveries as we step beyond yesterday’s initial run-through of the Brother Innov-is XP1’s embroidery screen workflow. This machine, also known as the Luminaire, is already proving to be very user-friendly and intuitive. It was an easy process to set a design and carry it through to stitch completion. Choosing only one was the hard part! So today we’ll look at some of the Luminaire‘s on-screen editing capabilities. Not all of them though – there truly is a method ...

Embroidery screen workflow of the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 from Quilt Social

Thanks for joining me again today as I continue to explore the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 embroidery features. I’m so glad you’re back because now is when the fun stuff begins! I’ll start with a bit of a warning though – I’ll start with the basics, and work up to some of the more “advanced” features over the next couple of days. Gotta pace ourselves, y’know, or the excitement could get overwhelming!

In yesterday’s post I admired the outside of the machine, the cool thread stand, and the huge 10⅝” x 16” embroidery area. You ...

Exploring the vast embroidery capabilities of the Brother Luminaire XP1 from Quilt Social

When asked to write about embroidery on the Brother Luminaire Innov-is XP1 (aka the Luminaire), my first thought was, “Um…wanna narrow that topic down a bit?” Fortunately, or unfortunately, that task was left to me. That’s a good thing, because I’m kinda a bit of a control freak, so getting to decide what to play with and discuss is right up my alley. But the challenge, came in that very “thing”: I know the Luminaire does so much – so how do I distill its potential into anything less lengthy than an epic novel? With pictures?

If you ...
