I got a NEW COMPUTER!!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- so technically, I did NOT get a new computer, BUT with everything I did yesterday, it sure acts like a new computer. It's FAST! I don't hear the hard disk laboring. Searches are FAST, and they seem to be complete.

YES -- I know I should know better -- I have some knowledge of computers. I just didn't realize what was happening, and it mostly had to do with OneDrive, which I started using several years ago. The bottom line? I'm way more knowledgeable because something "bad" happened. That's how we learn in anything! Miskates are ...

I WILL conquer the technology woes! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Some people posted interesting comments about the furniture on the side of the streets, ready to be crushed in the garbage trucks.

Some thrift stores will take that furniture, but you must deliver or pay for delivery. A friend's daughter was getting rid of a bedroom suite. It would cost $200 to have it delivered. She paid for the delivery! Thank you! And some family will thank her! But most of the furniture, sadly, goes into the landfill.

And I see someone had a rare family dining set valued at $12K US several years ago. Today? She sold it ...

Snowballs! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh dear --- the quilt history story is NOT happening again this morning. A bit pressed for time, and I want to do some more research, so we'll have to hand tight on that one.

I think I will have to shop for a pair of jeans. I knew the thigh part was going to start to have holes, and I saw the first one poking its head out. YES -- I know having holes in your jeans is fashionable, but I'm OK with no holes. But that means a shopping trip, which is not one of my favorite things ...

Happy New Year!!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Gosh -- it's hard to believe that 24 years ago, we were all watching the New Year ring in in Sydney, Australia. Everyone was expecting the world to start ending as the computers couldn't handle the switch from 1999 to 2000. Now, here we are 24 years later, and all is well. But if the "experts" were that shortsighted for "small" detail, imagine how many more things are being ignored - like the disposal of batteries for electric cars! But I won't go there!

I want to apologize to those who came to the Zoom call yesterday, and I ...

Computer woes! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

SIGH

There are better ways to start the day than that. Wait -  that's not true -- today is fine - yesterday was a nightmare. I'm having BIG issues with my computer. However, to put this in perspective, I heard of a guild member who passed suddenly a few days ago. She was lovely and always had a kind word and a smile for everyone.

So, while I've got issues, they are nothing like what her family and friends are dealing with right now. She will be missed!

Here's the nightmare at my house. If you read the blog ...

Highway of memories! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was a long day but also a very exciting day. Not only am I totally relaxed now because I have SEVEN FREE days next week, but just because! There is no point in being frazzled unless there is a very good reason.

I had prepped most everything the evening before, so all I had to do was write the blog and take the girls for a short walk, which was better than no walk. Then, I was in the car for a long drive.

I'm not the best with long drives, but I made out OK. I should ...

Boundless energy from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Multitasking - good or bad?

By the way - I fixed the link in yesterday's post. Good grief -- I attached a link but hadn't actually copied it from the web page, so it just pasted in the previous link I had copied, which was classes from a store. Sigh!!!

Someone here was talking about coaching for a job interview, and it was highly recommended to NOT mention that you can multitask! I agree -- we get buzzing around and don't do any job as well as we could if we focused on one and then moved to the other. WAIT ...

Fireworks and Fluff from The Quilt Quine

Unless I have a list to cross off, I feel as though I have achieved nothing in Life. That list can include walk / brush dog just so I feel I have earned the right to exist in the world. Of course, the Universe could not give a toss whether I make my bed, water my plants or brush my hair…

I completed the experimental non-slip sofa cover which does a pretty good job. The red is nowhere near the shade of the original sofa which needs a really deep treatment of leather cream. Now, I should really make another one ...

Making journal covers from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Well, I'm madly making or prepping samples for my adventures, which start again next week. This time, it's all about the Husqvarna Viking DESIGNED EPIC 3

At the convention, we made components of a journal cover as we learned the various new features, but they needed to be assembled. Of course, I had to change the assembly method a wee bit. I have a great way to make a journal cover that doesn't require hand stitching to close it up! Here's a link to my tutorial.

That tutorial will explain how to make a journal cover ...

Storm Chasing from The Quilt Quine

I am making myself study Art & Stitch so I know it inside out! Sometimes I find that it is not as co-operative as I would like in that things you think you have done before and learned, don’t always seem to work the same again.

I planned to make my way to Norfolk on Thursday but there was a storm warning so I decided to set off on Wednesday to try and beat it south. I was not able to leave until after lunch so I only went as far as Glasgow and stayed with Freya. As the weather ...

It's all about STATUS! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I must be quick this morning as I have to be on the road early to get to my destination and my event on time. I could have gone last night, but no need. I'm off to Stitcharie (Petrolia) for applique and quilting today. So, if you're in the area -- they may still have room, but it will be tight! I'm at Thimble Quilts and Sewing Company in Lasalle (near Windsor) for some embroidery events tomorrow.

The blog will be short and sweet this morning.

The first line of business was to get on a chat call ...

No Biggie from The Quilt Quine

After another epic drive north I spent the next day trying to get reorganised. My workshop could do with a big sort out but I am trying to remind myself that it does not all need to be done at once. Indeed, the universe does not even care whether I do it at all. I have a mega customer quilt to get done before I leave to teach 2 groups in Glasgow next week. It was frustrating that the Qmatic system kept stopping with an error message that there was a problem with the sewhead. On closer inspection, I discovered ...

Can it be this easy? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

As I prepare to write the blog, I reflect on what I accomplished the day before. Hmm -- what did I accomplish? Some days, it seems I get tons done, and other days -- well, not so much! Yesterday was a not-so-much day!

OH -- I know what happened yesterday. I'm starting to prepare the first couple of lectures on the Tequila Lime quilt, and I spent a lot of time at the computer with pictures. I really must call Microsoft and see what's happening with my software. When I save pictures, it can take up to one minute to save ...

FOMO - fear of missing out from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OH MY!!!!! I didn't take a single picture yesterday. In fact, I was a total slug all day, and I loved it!

I did grab a couple of pictures this morning, but nothing earth-shattering.

So what did I do all day? I was on the phone quite a bit. I know --- I had to break the "vow" of silence to get some work and family business done. Mission accomplished, but now I have some follow-up to do. It's always that darn follow-up that kills me. But if I get some of it done today and forget the quilting ...

Another Busy August Week from The Quilt Quine

My main mission for the week was to catch up with customer quilts that I had not done in the lead up to FoQ. I like to keep on top of them as I find having a queue of quilts a bit stressful!

True to my word, I have been making an effort to test out my cameras so I get to learn all of their features. It does not mean that I have necessarily made any decisions to trade any of them in but the exercise has been worthwhile to become more familiar with them. I have also tried ...

Progess report! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

There must have been some residue from the solar flares the previous day -- yep, more technical issues! But I worked around them.

First, DH came to get his keyboard back! What??? No, that was the keyboard from the computer he uses every day. He was just loaning it to me for the evening. OH! But he happened to have a wireless keyboard to his other computer (yep -- we are NOT just one computer per family member!). So I had the joy of installing that, which was easy.

However, it didn't work. Then I noticed THREE large white buttons. Apparently ...

Solar Flares! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm going to blame it entirely on solar flares! Apparently, there was a large one yesterday. Not only did the keyboard crap out, but other things also happened.

I did some testing on the keyboard later in the day, and well -- it's a mystery to be sure. Somehow some of the keys have gone wonky - when I type an "r," I get "6r". When I type "f," I get "5f." Typing a V brings up the help. I think there are eight keys affected, but one can't type with craziness like that.

And when I look at ...

Let's play ball! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

There is always something to learn when it comes to computers. I have asked my class participants to put certain words in the subject to track the e-mails when looking for homework pictures. Not everyone listens, so I'll have to be tougher next year. But I always seemed to miss some. However, I learned another way to use the search function this morning, so let's see how that goes!!!

And the next time a man says that all women are chatty? I don't think so. The last two days, I've had an appointment with men. Both ...

Internet woes from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I LOVE it!! I'm not the only person who did not read the complete Harry Potter series when it was first published. I knew people waiting at the bookstore for midnight when the books were released! I'm never that crazy about getting a book on the release date. I like the anticipation of being able to read it when I want. No one has ever told me what happened, and I'm good with that!

Speaking of books to read, I came across a 6.5 book for Louise Penny. It's part of the Gamache series. I ...

Time flies! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Where did yesterday go? After Monday's sewing, I went for a walk, then got stuck on the computer with the support team from Microsoft.

Can you tell me why this happened? My e-mail got stuck on my desktop but worked fine on my laptop and phone. I got an error message to delete some files because I exceeded my limit. OK -- I get that, but then I couldn't delete anything. So why is that? And why was it working fine on the other devices?

I never got an answer to any of those questions, but they did something ...
