Gouldian Finches - a finish! from Closet Quilter

Gouldian Finches, paper pieced

At New Year's, I knew that there was no better way to get me back into the quilting grove than to join a swap.  The trouble was, that I hadn't really seen any swaps in my Instagram feed for a while.  I guess that is what happens when you are out of the loop for a couple of years, the players change and new people that I didn't follow had replaced them.  Luckily, I did find a swap and joined the Quilters for Koalas swap hosted by @shoppershaz_swaphost (who hosts quite a few swaps in case you ...

Quiltcon Miniquilt swap from Ellyn's Place

Hello Friends! Here I am fresh out of the car from Quiltcon..... laundry going and ready for a nap. Seriously. This was the most exhausting, crazy fun weekend I've spent in a long long time. There is much to process and share, but today I thought I'd talk a bit about the mini quilt swap, which I entered for the fourth time this year. And look at this incredible beauty I brought home with me....

Tish from Toronto made this for me and boy did she hit the nail on the head! I love it so much. And ...

Sewing Escapades from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy sewing week with lots of progress on several projects.  I also received some squishy packages in the mail today. The first package contained my Modern Guild Make a Mini, Make a Friend swap quilt from Anne L in Texas.  When I signed up for the swap, I said that I liked Frank Lloyd Wright and orange...I think she nailed it!  Thanks for a wonderful mini, Anne!

I made my block for the March comfort quilt for the Elgin Piecemakers this week too.  It is a wonky quarter log cabin block in gray and white ...

A Variety of Projects from The Cozy Quilter

I spent quite a bit of time this week working on my Modern Quilt Guild "Make a Mini, Make a Friend" swap quilt and I am very pleased to be finished.  It is ready to put into the mail to my swap partner in Texas.  I will be mailing it after the London Modern Guild meeting in February so that I can bring it for show and tell.  Here is a sneak peek of the backing and binding as well as some of the quilting which I did with my walking foot on my DSM.

On sewing day on Monday ...

MCKMQG basket swap from Ellyn's Place

A little catch up post here! In the fall, the McKinney Modern Quilt Guild had a basket scrap swap. We've done these scrap swaps before, with baskets and pillows (twice!) and they are fun! Each participant brings a ziploc bag full of her own scraps. Then we fill out information sheets, how you'd like to use your basket etc. and we swap bags. You take home the bag you receive and make a basket for the original scrap owner. FUN! This time I got Alice's scraps. Let me tell you, she gave me enough scraps to make ...

Modern Swap Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

Sorry I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks.  I have been doing lots of sewing but it has almost all been secret sewing which I can't share here yet.  I have also been working on blocks for a swap and since I finished them today, I decided to show them on my blog. I have participated in Barb's modern block swap three times now.  The first year, we made broken dishes blocks with red and another solid colour.

The second year, we swapped churn dash blocks in jewel tones.

(I have all of these blocks ...

Mugrug swap from Ellyn's Place

McKinney Modern Quilt guild just finished a Mugrug Swap with the North West Arkansas Modern guild. What fun! We were each assigned a partner so we knew who was making for us. I was assigned Elizabeth  and I was so excited when I saw how fun her work it. Earlier in the month, at our October meeting I received this beautiful mug rug....

I had told her about my love of red & aqua/teal and that I also love music. The dresden love? Either she got that by snooping on my feed or she guessed, but it's all spot ...

About Swaps from My Stitches-Shilpa

This year i haven't had a lot of chance to get together with my sewing machine. Various personal reasons apart...the only thing that is keeping the needle in my hand these days are swaps. The mini quilt swaps mean i could easily juggle my other priorities with sewing. I began with the Home Sweet home Mini swap for which i made an embroidered mini quilt for my partner.

My mini quilt with all the goodies that i sent my partner!

The ease of the project along with the creativity encouraged me so much that i signed up for ...

Broadway Mini Quilt Swap from The Sarcastic Quilter

I participated in another mini quilt swap (I'm doing it a lot lately) and the theme was Broadway. Our partners (still a blind swap so we don,t know who is making for us) used our sign up forms and our IG feed for inspiration on what Broadway shows we liked and our personal tastes.

My partner liked the King and I so I set to planning...  I used one of the Playbills of the dancing couple for inspiration.

First I thought to do a foundation pieced mini but I wasn't happy with my fabric options even though ...

Minion Mini Swap 2015 (Instagram Swap) from The Sarcastic Quilter

Bello!

We are glad you have taken an interest in this swap. Bear with us, we are going to start with the negative so we can end with the positive.

First and foremost, this is an Instagram only, blind (you won't know who's making for you) mini quilt swap for US (APO/FPO) participants only.  If you are interested in a broader swap or an international swap, rest easy, @ninjadesigns (IG handle) is hosting an international minion craft swap with sign-ups on 7/31.

Please read the following carefully.  We realize these may sound harsh and to ...
