creativity round up for the week... from Not Afraid of Color

the addition is an improv flying geese row at top

I spent my creative time in my studio  this week

When I want to spend time in my happy place but If I can't focus on sewing, I sort... this time sorted paper piecing pattern copies collection.

I looked through three books to come up with border ideas for my sunflower piece. I wasn't excited by any of them though...

I looked through my stash to choose fabrics to set off the sunflower piece.

I googled medallion quilts for ideas on how to set my sunflower piece...! All ...

trifecta . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

My blogging reliability has been incredibly negligible this year, and I really debated at some point whether or not to just give it up.  But I really enjoy writing, and I *love* having this pictorial/word summary to look back on; whether it's for remembering a trip or a particular project.  Or just to reminisce. ♥

This morning I debated on whether to add a third post to July, or save this for tomorrow and start off August well.  Eh.  We'll be traveling to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville tomorrow (about a 2 hour drive), so why put it off ...

lo and behold . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's almost August! How did that happen??? July started with a bang ... pun intended ... with our July 4th holiday and a lovely day with the family on the boat!
This crew loves being in the water ... it's hard to get them back out of it when it's time!  Little man thought he was big stuff, hanging out in the Captain's lap. LOL!

Todd's surgery was scheduled for the 5th, so we came in early . . . unfortunately, the surgery ended almost as soon as it had started.  We knew the surgeon was going to use cameras to ...

Work on the UFOs from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It was another glorious day! I went out for a long walk in the afternoon with no hat, and by the time I got home, my jacket was open, my scarf was dangling, and my mitts were in m pocket! I LOVE days like that. But it was cold when I took the girls out in the morning, and my legs were a bit red when I got back!

We had our UFO Clubs in the morning, which is always a hoot. Who did or didn't get their homework done? If they don't, $10 will be donated to ...

Plan B goes in action from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yep -- I have the best friends ever! I love our Virtual Monday Sewing Group! So much fun to get together, and you would think after this long that we would run out of things to talk about. Nope! However, we have ZERO tolerance for anything political, those who used to be royals, and COVID (anything related to policy). I never want to shut someone down on a call, but if I have to, I will!

Our calls are so much fun and well --- what happens at Monday Sewing stays at Monday sewing. A while back, we started a show and ...

Sunflowers! from Quilt Obsession

Remember these – the box full of batik sunflowers last seen here in 2017? They have been my focus for a week or so because I decided that I needed to make a few more.

A few? Famous last words. Because this was the result.

Thanks to a blogging friend who had sent me a lovely selection of batiks from her stash, which I had set aside for this project, I have a few really interesting sunflowers to be made. A few? Try 90+. I got carried away and any batik I had that I hadn’t used already for a ...

sweet, sweet, sweet . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Lots of lovely little tidbits from the past week.  First up, my daughter-in-love, has created a *sweet* home business called "Madelyn Mae's Bake Shop".  She makes the loveliest, tastiest cookies! How do I know they're tasty, you may ask?  Because she sent me some!
Tea cups, tea pots, and quilt squares! And in purples, no less!  It was a fun snail mail package to receive! She's so talented!

And I know autumn is on its way, because I've started to feel the pull of all things pumpkin . . .
Picked up this sweet Benartex metallic pumpkin panel.  I ...

in with the new . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Do you know what happens when you make up your mind to back-post before you current post again?

Nothing.  LOL!

And the longer I put it off, the more daunting the task became.  So, here's what happened this past weekend:

I switched out my patriotic decor that went up in time for Memorial Day (and stays up through Bastille Day—July 14) . . .

For summery, sun-shiney sunflowers!
I love changing out my accent pieces for the seasons.  More and more, it's become mostly pieces I've made or been gifted.  I love that!!  Once I got everything out, I ...

Ragged Sunflower- Larger Than Life — Paper piecing, quilt or wall hanging pattern from Wisonsin Quilting

I posted this pattern several years ago. It’s time to bring it back to the forefront. Below you will see my original text saying “You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Till It’s Gone.” Now it is so true in our current worldview. A sunflower that’s “larger than life….” Make this pattern and contemplate. Sunflower $8 pattern (suggested size is 32″ 42″ with modifications for 40″ x 40″ but it also prints in such a way that you can scale it to any size on your printer.) It looks complex, but is just a ...

Fabric folding fun from Jean's Quilting Page

A few weeks ago I saw a video online about fabric folding to make these fantastic stars by Cheryl Phillips. She is updating the original pattern from the book Wedgeworks. As soon as I saw the cover of the book I realized I had that book, so went to find it.
I gathered some gorgeous pieces of fabric I got recently and got to work. I meant to take more pictures as I assembled it, but forgot. She gives a good demo of the process of folding the fabric and inserting it into seams which is much better than my ...

Grumpy Sunflowers: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Sunflower colour board

I was going to pass. No blogging this week….

The Chameleon was just not in the mood. Grumpy. Not enough sewing, for one. My laptop ate my homework for another (no joke, literally corrupted my assignment during the last save, between proofread and submit….(&*$%@!!!) and we are all suffering varying degrees of end-of-school-term-itis here, etc etc. Nothing serious. Just pecked to death by the gloom duck, even after hubby helped me retrieve *most* of my assignment from wherever it is that corrupted files go to die.

But then I read through the link ups at last week’s Colour & Inspiration ...

Let the Sunflowers shine... from Quilting Lots Moore Designs

Way back in September 2011, I visited my online quilting friend in small town Kansas - Parsons to be exact.  It was a very special time for me and I so enjoyed meeting Barbara and her daughter Jackie.  Because of Parsons geographical position, it was easy to visit four states within a couple of hours - it sits near the crossroads of Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas.  Such fun!
While I was there, Barbara asked me to give a talk to her local guild, then it became a few of the little outlying guilds until we ended up with 70 plus people ...
