2 fabulous felt projects to make your holidays sew much easier from Quilt Social

 

Yesterday we talked about the use of fabric, decorative machine embroidery thread and a little time spent quilting to make gifts for the chefs in your life.

Specialty threads – oh the fun! from Quilt Social

 

All this week I’ve been talking about pairing SCHMETZ needles with Sulky and Gütermann threads according to the sewing task. I had a wonderful time working with Sulky and Gütermann rayon threads yesterday, and as the last post for the week, today I’ll show you how to use some amazing specialty threads.

Let’s get started.

Rayon thread – beautiful silk-like lustre from Quilt Social

Applique stitches – which is your favorite? from Quilt Social

 

I used to be a blanket stitch fanatic and  for certain things I still am. But in the past couple of years I started to stitch my applique through all 3 layers of the quilt and prefer the look of the satin stitch on the back of the quilt to the blanket stitch. So now I mostly do either free motion zigzag to create the satin stitch or proper satin stitch.

The other reason I like to stitch through all three layers of the quilt when stitching down the applique is because it makes a great stabilizer for the stitches ...
