String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

I had a busy week.  Childcare is still settling into the new routine.  It’s going okay but I’ll be happier in a couple weeks when we are all truly settled in.  Hubby was gone some of the evening last week as he was busy cutting forth crop hay.  Friday night we were off to Minnesota for a reunion.  Saturday auction.  Sunday Kelli and Kayla were home for Carver’s 2nd birthday party and we had a retirement party.  BUSY.  Oh-and I’m ripping apart and reorganizing the basement.  Typically I don’t like busy weekends like that but ...

String Quilt Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

I got a little sidetracked again…I’ll tell you more about that in tomorrow’s post.  It all started with this…. which is obviously NOT MY STRING QUILT PROJECT!!  But it was a good thing for me to be doing and I’m so happy I got sidetracked…but onto what I did do.

Then I felt guilty about not having my Block of the Month blocks done so even more distraction….I got the two 18″ blocks done but the 12″ ones weren’t cut out so I couldn’t do them.  Hopefully at nap one day this ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

If you read my earlier blog posts you’ll know that I was hoping for a Sunday in the sewing room.  Alas, it didn’t happen.  We had most of the garage sale things cleaned up on Saturday but as long as the garage was almost clean, we decided to go the extra mile and really clean it.  From there I cleaned the laundry room.  I marked every item I have here that is suppose to go to our antique booth in Harmony, MN.  I made a pan of bars.  I paid some bills and my sewing time was quickly ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

Well at retreat I got my Daylilies quilt top together and I haven’t touched a string since.  UGH.  I need to get back in the swing even if it’s only to give the top a good pressing and find a backing.

This time of year I am swamped with stuff…summer winding down, school starting….Hubby is finally not working so many hours so we take a come time away.  Then that just leaves me more behind.  It’s a happy changing season type of busy, canning and freezing and getting the most out of what summer has ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

I made progress in the string challenge department.  I got my Daylilies quilt into a top… (retreats can give a girl just the boost she needs!!)

This is all batik fabrics.  Several of the girls had commented at the retreat that it wasn’t their first choice of quilts to do from Bonnie Hunter’s book String Fling but now that they had seen it to the top stage, they like it.  That often happens to me….I see a quilt from a book, I’m not particularly excited about it, then I see someone else make it and I ...

String Challenge and More from Jo's Country Junction

Well if you read the title you would believe this post to be about the String Challenge and More.  Well…there’s not much string challenge in this post but there’s lots of “more”.  I haven’t sewn much this week.  Life has been SUPER busy with lots of getting things together around here.  With that excuse you would think I’m ready for the quilt retreat on Wednesday.  Well nope, I’m not at all.  I haven’t packed a stitch.  Well Kelli did call me and ask me to bring something so I put it in a ...

**I have an auction happening here on the blog with fun quilty goodies.  See the items and how to bid by following this link.**Bidding ends at Noon Central Time.**

Not much happened for me in the string challenge way.  Not much at all.

Kelli came to sew one day….as typical, she was goofing off.  She was working on pink scrap vortex quilt….I was working on this and that.  She was stuck and couldn’t figure out how to get things trimmed.  I offered to trim her blocks.  I LOVE sizing and trimming blocks.  She said, “what can ...

String Challenge and More from Jo's Country Junction

I worked on my string blocks.  Last week I got them sewn.  This week was trim time.

We had some rain one day this week so in the afternoon we were stuck indoors.  I asked the kids what they wanted to to.  The gal in the pink shirt said she wanted to help me do some sewing.  She’s one of the girls that I made the Zuckerwatte quilt for.  (Post here if you missed that) I had just finished trimming the blocks while the kids were napping so I thought maybe they could help me de-paper the blocks.  The ...

I had a few days off last week.  I had hoped to do sewing and sewing and sewing….I did sew a bit but not as much as I had hoped.  I got 14 sewn.  I need few more.  I have them started but not finished.  I sure would like to finish them yet tonight before bed but time is quickly ticking away.

I am so happy with myself ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

Here we are back at it fresh on another new week.  I had a great weekend and I’ll write more about that at another time.  For now, I need to tell you about my String Challenge progress.

I did have some progress.

Hubby and I went on a road trip up the booth in Harmony at the antique shop.  I grabbed all the string blocks I had done and all the spider web blocks I had and ripped papers off the back along the way.  I’m happy to report that I have

more string blocks complete for Daylilies ...

**I posted new auction items that you can bid on in Saturday morning’s post.  If you’re interested, find the post here.  BIDDING ENDS AT NOON CENTRAL TIME TODAY**

I sewed more than I have in a long time this last week…still not like I used but more than I have.  But I’m happy.  If you can see through the mess here, I got some more string blocks sewn and trimmed for my Daylilies quilt.  I didn’t de-paper them as I’ll either let the childcare kiddos do it for me or save it for a ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

I didn’t have much time for sewing but I had some.  If you’re been following along you know that I’ve been doing strings on the treadle for Daylilies.  Being I only had two-ish hours to sew I decided to head up to the sewing room and pull Tulip Fields.  With the String Challenge I have three quilts left to completely from the book…Pineapple Crazy needs to be quilted.  Daylilies needs the string blocks and Tulip Fields is cut out but that’s it.

Here’s how I last left it….

String Challenge and More from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve been missing my sewing machine.  There has been so much to do around here and catch up on that I haven’t touched it in ages.

I got Hubby’s pants patched but that doesn’t count as sewing…right??

Thankfully it was only one pair.

I had a blog reader say that she was so happy that I had “stopped cleaning and reorganizing”.   Remember that kick I was in about Aprilish time.  The reader had been trying to keep up with me cleaning as I was cleaning and organizing.

Well I really never got out of the ...

I was so busy getting ready for the big Market at the White Barns sale that I didn’t get much sewing done…well to be honest, this is as close as I got…

I pinned a patch in place in Hubby’s jeans.  That’s it.  No other sewing.

…and this is a picture of what I got done this week in the string challenge department.

If you only see a big box on your computer screen..no worries.  There is nothing at all wrong with your computer.  There is nothing wrong with the picture.  Seriously, I got nothing ...

Yesterday I woke up with a long list of things I had hoped to get to.  I’ve had all of Memorial Day weekend with no plans and it’s been BLISS.  I’ve had plenty to do so it’s a not a “sit and watch Netflix” kind of weekend but a planting and painting kind of weekend.  I did decide on Sunday morning before I got all dirty with dirt or paint that I should take a second and do something in the sewing room.  Yes, it’s still not all back in place yet.

It’s been ...

**Last chance on bidding for auction items.  Bidding end at NOON central time today.  Find the auction here is you missed it.**

I didn’t think I was going to get anything done for the string challenge. I ended up at an auction on Saturday and Sunday I spent the day dealing with all the things I bought. That meant no sewing time.

Then about 2pm on Sunday I remembered that Little Women was going to be on PBS. I had missed it last week. But was hopeful that they might re-air it right before the new episode….I checked ...

String Challenge and More from Jo's Country Junction

I touched a sewing machine this week.  I really happened!  I had made a goal that I wouldn’t touch a machine until I got through the ENTIRE sewing room….and I haven’t gotten through the whole thing so…I hadn’t touched machine.  But then I decided although a good idea in practice to stick to the goal of getting the sewing room entirely gone through, it’s not a good practice for my sanity.

So I worked more on my Churn Dash Shirt quilt.

It’s bigger now.  I’m starting to think of border ideas…or ...

I still haven’t gotten a lot done in the sewing department.  After I said that in another post a blog reader suggested that “I’m choosing life” over hobby and that has been exactly right.  Surprisingly I’m not one bit sad about it.  Besides some other things have been happening here that do take up lots of time.

Earlier this year we submitted a quilt I designed to a magazine.  They passed on it.  We submitted it to another magazine.  They took it.  Now, two months later the original magazine that we submitted to wants the quilt.  Well ...

Before you start reading today’s post, we have an auction happening on some quilt items.  Check it out on here.  The auction ends at noon today central time.

Now to today’s post:

I didn’t get any quilting done this week.  It’s been crazy busy and I can’t keep up.  I’ve spent a couple evenings marking stuff to take up to the antique mall booth.  Hubby is in the field and hasn’t been getting home until 9:15pm or so.  I have to put supper on for him and manage the things he usually ...

String Challenge from Jo's Country Junction

It happened.  What you might ask?  Nothing.  Nothing happened at all on a sewing machine the entire week long.  ENTIRE WEEK.  I didn’t touch it.  I didn’t even patch anything with it.  NOTHING happened on a sewing machine for me.  I thought that would never happen in my entire life, but there it did.

I was a little preoccupied.  The pending PET scan, the reorganizing of the quilting room and the sidetrack of cross stitching all played a part in the sewing not happening.

I think another thing happened….I started thinking about death being a little closer ...
