This fortnight we had a workshop with Richard McVetis in the Stitch Club 2020 by The project was to make a hand-stitched abstract collage.

Hand-stitched Mile of Gold

Translucent meanderings from Quilting & Learning

I can't say enough about how much I've enjoyed playing with fabrics with's Stitch Challenge 2020. As you saw from my last post, I have even used free motion quilting (FMQ) in some of these projects.

Using sheers on my abstract template

This is the first piece that I did based on Sabine Kaner's workshop. She showed us how to make an abstract template by crumpling a piece of paper and then drawing along the ridges of the lines. You can read more about it in my last post which is in Related links ...

Swamp visit & slow stitching from Quilting & Learning

Can you believe that August is almost over? Now that the weather is cooler, I feel like I'm finally coming out of my cocoon (aka my home's AC) and I even have a little more energy. As much as I love the cool fall weather, I have to remind myself to enjoy it because I keep thinking of the winter that's on it's way. I know....enjoy the moment!

Ciboulette Stitches finished from Quilting & Learning

Ciboulette Stitches

Here it is! I'm really happy with the finished project. I had planned to only have one flower but it really needed more, so now there are three.

Ciboulette Stitches finished!
Here is a close up of the flowers.

My model for the chive flower comes from my front garden. It hasn't received much attention but I love  that the chives grow without my effort - my favourite kind ...

July is here! from Quilting & Learning

I can't believe that July is already here. It must be Canada Day because it's really hot and muggy in Ottawa. It may get lively in the burbs today as people who usually head to Parliament Hill stay home and have small parties. I watched a few fireworks from my studio last night - that was a treat.

Happy Canada Day!

Fireworks in July (2015)

I thought that I had only made one other Canada Day quilt, but when I looked at my old posts, it turns out that I made quite a few Canada minis for Canada's ...

Embroidering with plastic and Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi. Welcome to week 286 of Free Motion Mavericks. Although I'm in the middle of setting up my new studio, I had planned on doing some free motion quilting (FMQ) today on the Pinwheels and Stars Baby Quilt - but I didn't find my supplies until it was too late - so you're going to see how last week, I embroidered using plastic bags
