Yes, I made two Carpenter Star quilt tops. I made them at the same time; they were fast and easy. The blue and green one will be for my great grandbaby, due in October; and the red, white, and blue one will be staying in my living room.

The Midnight Quilt Show with Angela Walters may have been over for more than a year now ... but I'm certainly not done making quilts that were featured in the show. My latest finish is Iridescent, a bright all-solids quilt designed by Slice of Pi Quilts.
Iridescent was so easy and so satisfying to put together because it's just squares and half-square triangles. The color placement would have been very confusing except for the fact that the pattern offered up a helpful chart, so there was no mix-up at all. Sometimes I just don't want to have to ... read moreWhat a fun workshop this was! Mel Beach taught Intriguing Interleaves to Ninigret Quilters via Zoom in February. It is a quilt-as-you-go method, which means when the piecing is done, so is the quilting! How satisfying to have a completed project so soon after taking a class, and not another UFO for the pile!
Mel is an outstanding teacher who utilizes all the technology at her disposal to maximize student engagement in the virtual environment. She's the best we've seen since we started Zooming in April 2020.I'm not going to get into the process here, but ...
Once upon a time, the Lady of the Lake emerged from the waters of Avalon to bestow a magical sword on young King Arthur. Arthur took that sword to war and…was mortally wounded. What a shame! What if she had given him a fancy new sewing machine instead? Just imagine the quilts he could have made!

The Lady of the Lake quilt pattern is an old-fashioned favorite made entirely of half-square triangles. Jenny used layer cakes in bright white and “Horizon,” the 2021 Kona Color of the Year to create a two-color quilt that is lovely as a fairytale ...

With all this crazy weather, we can all dream about vacations right? We can dream about sitting on the beach with our toes in the sand watching the tide come up just far enough to tickle our feet, then rushing back from whence it came. We can dream about the smell of suntan lotion or the rays of the sun kissing our skin just enough to give us a golden glow. We can dream about that drink in our hand with the little umbrella floating off to the side - I'm thinking sweet tea with lemon. We can dream....

I'm pretty sure our delivery people don't like delivering to us. We had an 'incident' where the FedEx driver left a box of fabric out at the end of our 150 ft driveway (where we put our trash, I might add) and for the first time ever, Hubs called in. The local social media site, coincidentally, had a rash of other deliveries that the same thing had happened to. Whether it was everyone being keyboard warriors or thinking there was ...
read moreIt's always exciting when new fabric comes in. The biggest disappointment is if there are backorders. Unfortunately, this load is about half what was ordered. Traditionally, solids have been used in Hawaiian quilts, Amish quilts and 30s reproduction quilts. Now we are seeing a huge trend of solids in Modern quilts. I'll be honest, I haven't used a lot of solids. I can count on one hand how many quilts I have made with just solids. Here are a few examples of highly popular patterns:
I still have the kits "Gee's Bend Quilts" both in my ... read more
The quilt I'm sharing today had been on my list for a long time - since November 2016 to be exact. It was the quilt of the month Modern Quilt Guild members had access to and because I'm a huge fan of its designer - Yvonne Fuchs from Quilting Jetgirl - I just had to download it. Yvonne has since added the pattern to her shop here. It's a great quilt with fabulous instructions - I highly recommend it.
Yvonne's version was in a gorgeous orange and cream. When I flipped through my Kona card, the Emerald green really spoke ...
read moreI didn't think I'd like this finish as much as I do. I mean, obviously, I liked the pattern because I bought it, but I was afraid my fabric choices wouldn't be great. When I purchased the pattern, I really wanted to make it out of the same colour but in different values. My stash, however, didn't have enough fat quarters of the same colours to make it work and I really didn't want to order fabric for this.
Anyhow - I went with solid fabric in a bunch of different colours and Kona Ash as ...

It was a big challenge, and after I was done with it, I felt so physically and mentally exhausted that I didn't want to look at it for quite awhile. So I put it away for a whole year ... but I finally decided it's time to quilt this.
When Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl released her Tire Tracks quilt pattern back in June, I immediately clicked the Buy button. But then it took a little bit of time for the project to make it to the top of the queue.
For my version of the quilt, I chose to make the baby quilt size with Kona Ash as the background and Kona Cardinal.
The pattern looks really complicated, but it's actually quite simple. I followed Yvonne's instructions step-by-step and even labelled my blocks as I was making them. So when it came time to put the top ...

May your bobbins always be full,

Late last year after I finished the Stargazer Block-of-the-Month run by Rebecca Bryan, I said I wasn't going to do another one. Stargazer was a lot of work, and I was still feeling tired from it.
A few months later, when Rebecca revealed the 2020 Block-of-the-Month, Solstice, I decided that yes, I was going to do another one. Rebecca's quilts are never easy, but they're super interesting and unique. I certainly don't have another quilt like Solstice in my collection. After 8 months of block making, I finally got ready to assemble Solstice. My husband owns an old classic car - a 1968 Dodge Coronet which he just loves. He is constantly tinkering with it, fixing this and that and to help him, he's good friends with a mechanic. This friend has spent a lot of time on the car and during one of his visits, hubby discovered that his wife is a crafter and a huge fan of the colour pink. So to thank them, he asked me to make her a quilt.

I really wasn't looking for a new quilt along. I already had several block-of-the-months to keep me busy, not to mention a slew of other projects I had queued up. But when the Atmosphere quilt along was announced, well, how could I resist?
I really wasn't looking to buy a kit. I had bins full of scraps, and shelves full of fat quarters. But when the lovely bundle of 34 Kona fabrics came wafting under my nose, well, how could I resist?
So I fell headlong into the Atmosphere quilt along. Cutting and organizing the fabric was arguably ...
