February's Snowmen! from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Happy February! It's first false spring here in Minnesota. It's unseasonably warm here this week. It's supposed to hit 50's today. I should take Josephine for a walk, but she had a bath the other day and she's looking so nice that I hate to chance her rolling in something disgusting at the park. It's crazy warm, I've even cracked open a couple of windows to air the house out. I suddenly have spring fever and it's too soon! Toooooo sooooooo....... although it's been glorious to finally see the sunshine and ...

Two Almost Finishes and My Favorite Reads of 2023! from The Modern Diary

I quilted and bound my three little snowmen on Friday.  Hazel has pinkeye and an ear infection, so they kept her home and Indie was content to watch me sew in the morning.  I am waiting on some tiny black buttons (would you believe I did not have one matched set among all my buttons!) to make their eyes.

Last night, I quilted my snowflake quilt.  Today I will bind it, I think.

I read 327 books in 2023.  This is a record for me.  My favorites this year (not including rereads) were:

This reading year is off to a ...

A Whole Lot of Mysteries Going on! from The Modern Diary

Here is clue 5 of Indigo Way.  I chose this brown fabric with other colors for my "special" fabric last minute.  It has several of the colors from the quilt so it should work.

Here is clue 6 which I finished yesterday.  Very excited to be keeping up with Indigo Way!

Here is the completed cutting for tomorrow's Merry Mayhem Case # 148 Twist and Shout!
While Becky and Barb were sewing (and I was all caught up), I needed something to sew, so finally got around to this paper pieced snowman! Pretty sure I first saw it on Kathy ...

Get this Christmas quilt pattern for beginners, make it fast, and add whimsy to your holiday decor. You may want to make extras as gifts!

Photo by Annie’s. Used with permission.

I designed Starry Night for Exclusively Annie’s with the Blizzard collection by Moda Fabrics. It measures 36″ x 36″ with 5″ and 6-3/4″ blocks. I just got it back, and I tell you, I am tempted to hang it up right now instead of waiting all the way until December!

The blocks are very easy to make, so this project is ideal for newcomers to the ...

Snowmen Love! from Quilt Doodle Doodles

I Love snowmen!

It's that time of year that love is in the air.... so, I put out this sweet design out in my kitchen. I think it's perfect for this time of year! Now that all of my Christmas decorations are tucked away it's time to decorate for Valentine's Day. Let me show you how I made it....

Here I have all my pieces layered onto my towel and ironed down.

Typically, I use brown thread to applique around everything, but I wanted a softer look for my Valentine design. I matched up my fabric ...

a long debriefing (and a giveaway) . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

So it's that time of year when you *blink* and two (or more) days weeks have passed.  LOL!  Can I get an amen on that?!  I always struggle, when I finally make my way back to the ol' blog (which I always do), with what to post. Do I go back and fill in the blanks?  Or just pick up at 'today' and pretend nothing happened?

Because I use my blog primarily for me ... as a means to remember events, projects, and life, over the course of the year ... my tendency is to go ahead and fill in the ...

a repeat stitcher . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

What a great weekend I enjoyed in Hendersonville, TN!  We went up early Thursday morning for a Lifeway Women's Leadership event.  Three days packed full of fabulous speakers, great teaching, encouragement, fellowship and fun.  But whew!  I was worn out.  Hence my slow stitching post didn't get written for yesterday, and that's a shame, because I have some fun stitchy stuff to share!  So Monday it is.  ;)

Ellie (oldest granddaughter) had shown some interest in embroidery.  For Christmas two years ago I gifted her with a sampler kit that I put together for her.  Once we started ...

Snowflake from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

It's been hotter than Hades here lately, we're not used to this kind of heat in June. This is more like mid July- August weather. I have been spending a lot of time inside, only to venture out to water the plants and flowerpots. I'm babying my little veggie starts and so far I've only lost one whimpy tomato plant. While trying to keep cool in the house I worked on a chilly little snowman mug rug. It's quick, it's cute.... perfect if you want to get a jump on some Christmas stocking stuffers ...

Embroidery 101 from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

As many as you know, I have a couple of panels available thru Marcus Fabrics. They are fun to work with and embellish. So I thought I would talk about embroidery over the next couple days. Growing up, one of the first needlework projects mom started me on was embroidery. I remember mom had a small 'how to' book she let me use that listed a bunch of embroidery stitches. I remember working on a kit that had flowers that was done all in crewel work. Many different stitches using a lightweight wool yarn to stitch with and a big ...

Baby, It's Cold Outside! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Depending on where you live, it is cold outside. Some of our friends in the northern climes are experiencing some bitter, cold temperatures.  It is one of those very cold locations that we envisioned when we created this block for the Winter Wonderland Mystery Sew-A-Long. Our snowman builder just couldn't take the weather anymore—not when there was a warm and cozy fire nearby.

Before starting your block, please read our pattern directions thoroughly. Our directions for how we cut out our appliqué pieces (especially the footprints) are very specific for the method we use. We use freezer paper ...

Who's At The Door? from From the Strawberry Patch...

Welcome! Mr. Snowman is all quilted, bound and is guarding the door to the sewing room for the winter months. This was a wonderful Country Threads pattern to stitch up, you can find it here. I used a straight-line quilting approach for a quick and easy finish. Somehow I made twice as many flying geese units than I needed (?!!), they were relegated to the back. And, speaking of people at the door.

Who's Under That Hat? from From the Strawberry Patch...

If you were playing along with the teaser from my last post, and you guessed a snowman, you were right! I needed a new sewing room door banner after taking Santa down last week. I saw this pattern on Country Threads website and knew it was just the thing! He measures 22" X 51" and is just the right size to fill the now empty space on the door. I have a series of door quilts that cycle through the
