Sewing Saturday from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to this week's sewing round up. I finished the blue scrappy log cabin blocks, as close to a similar size as improv blocks get!!  We didn't know August's color so I couldn't do blocks for RSC.

I did work hard on quilting and trimming two challenge quilts in the pink rose series... I plan to do a whole post on them this week as they came out so well! I quite enjoy working in a series... changing one thing each time, or trying a different technique with each one.
The back of the one above ...

sewing saturday blue log cabins from Not Afraid of Color

do you know what time it is???
Welcome to Saturday's sewing round-up for the week! I finished the painted lady, made with last week's scraps!
Metallic mylar threads, a mix of horizontal and vertical lines, free motion  sculpting...
Make it fit, make it work, add a bit, subtract a bit... then when it's all done add beads!

twisted bugle beads along top an bottom of painted lady. She was painted with oil sticks a long time ago.
Everyone likes a floral necklace!

Sewing Saturday blues from Not Afraid of Color

For this week's sewing round up, I am showing my lozenge blocks, in dark blues for the color of the month at RSC. I prepare the rectangles cut from scrap bins, and 2" white, and black, squares and sew them all at once
Pretty fabrics right? All scraps in the bin, ready to showcase in this simple block
When I sew the squares onto the rectangles, I sew on the other side of the line to give me tiny 1.5" HST's. My goal has been each month to use these in a new way.
I had a ...

Saturday Sewing Round-up from Not Afraid of Color

It looks like I've hardly been sewing but I've been up in my overheated garret studio every day this week!
Mainly doing this
Joy got me started, and I thought, why not make a king quilt for the bed in summer?? I'm using leftover solid fabrics for the most part, mixed with some older calico scraps, some black and white, and a cut up oxford white shirt of dh's! Right now there are 40 blocks and I realized I need a half row at the bottom at least to cover the bed. It's still in ...

Sewing Saturday a finish and a start from Not Afraid of Color

How do you define a finish? Think about all the "finishes" you go through on your way to binding a quilt.... I Have been making improv log cabins in each monthly color for RSC, and when it came to pink... I had to stop and finish them into this part! Why, I might even just make this into a wall hanging I like it so much... imagine lots of metallic pink threads glistening in it!

then there is this kind of finish... down to the beading done and on display!
This is number three in the painted pink flower series ...

sewing Saturday, I'm in the pink! from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to this week's sewing round-up! The color of the month as RSC is pink, and I love it!
This week I sewed improv, irregular log cabins with all shades of pink, all shades of white
I start with the color in center, then go round and round and round til it's about the same size as all the rest.

No measuring

just fun sewing

using up skinny strips and bits, I kind of want to sew just these blocks together now! I like the shape and setting! What do you think?

I finished the little pinwheel piece ...

Sewing Saturday from Not Afraid of Color

Isn't she lovely? Welcome to this week's sewing round up!
(Listen to Stevie sing while you read https://www.youtube.com/)

This week I finished the binding, and the beading on her.
It's all scraps, laid over each other with no fusible. Raw edged applique, machine stitched, hand painted face with prisma pencils.

the flowers are paper with rhinestones.
The color of the month at Rainbow Scrap Challenge is pink, and it's a happy color to me.
The design wall is pretty
This week I sewed the lozenge blocks I've done in each color of ...

sewing Saturdays from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to this week's sewing round up! Looking back at my pictures, I realized I got a lot done this week. (I posted the week's paintings HERE)
The top picture is from one of my paintings from last week.
the black and white with the color version to the left
I painted a pretty pink flower, printed it out on fabric. Unknown to us, the printer setting for my computer was set on black and white so I figured I wasted a precious sheet, but then turned it into a design challenge.

I put tiny squares of florals ...

Sewing Saturday I need a name... from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to this week's sewing round up! I finished one of two green strings improv pieces this week, along with making a kindle cover, and sorting through some studio supplies.

The design wall looks very spring-y I think
plus in the world of fiber, I started knitting socks again. DH loves my hand knitted socks and his have been repaired so many times they look like tiny patchwork quilts!
I had to remind myself how to knit them on two small circular needles, so it took longer than usual to get this ribbing done and start on the cuff ...

Sewing Saturday from Not Afraid of Color

I made some dark green lozenge blocks this week...first cut scraps and get organized
sew on corner squares, and make tiny HST's with the cut off bits... only 1 1/2" square
now what to do with this month's hst's?? I added in some whole dark green squares to make 6 larger sawtooth star blocks
join them with more little dark green squares.
64 tiny hst's, 48 tiny squares, to make the top which looked very unfinished at 8" X 14"
what if I added a strip section?
Unbalanced...
back to the machine
still needs ...

sewing Saturday.... bunny from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to sewing Saturday, and just look how the bunny quilt came out!
So springy!(more about that in a minute!)

As  I was putting away the blue log cabins I decided to put all the blocks done for  the rainbow scrap challenge up on the wall just to see. January (bright greens) February (orange) March (aqua and turquoise) April (light and bright blue)

I have no idea how these will go together!!
I made a mask for myself out of a pink scrap that's been in the stash a while
(https://www.prettyhandygirl.com/best-fit-facemask/)
The bunny quilt ...

bright/light blue log cabins and color study from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to this week's sewing round up!
Like most responsible sew-ists I made masks this week including a uni of VA one for DH (his undergraduate alma mater) Now on with the show!
11" X 12 "
this little lady was the HST color study done with 64 teensy leftovers from doing the lozenge blocks in bright blues
I do not measure them, they are the cut offs from lozenge blocks. I try to use them in some new way each month.
This time I sewed the tiny 1" blocks to each other to form one flying geese block then ...

sewing saturday from Not Afraid of Color

I loved the dance of light circles hitting the design wall!!!
welcome to this week's sewing round-up. The color of the month at RSC is light or bright blue.
Calming but not stimulating following on the heels of a month of turquoise.
All I did was take off the lid
Mostly this week,  I was able to find concentration while painting and learning. I took some classes at blueprint, and put that on yesterday's post. I painted the wee little landscape and then noticed the colors go so well with the batik scrap strip. Am I right? Maybe ...

sewing Saturday... from Not Afraid of Color

love a little lunchbox to hold supplies!
I have turned to sewing most of my life. Granny set me up at the treadle machine from her mother when my legs were long enough. I sewed doll clothes and quilts, hand embroidered table cloths, made pot holders, hand crewel- embroidered my bell bottoms for high school.
ready to roll!!!
I am having a lot of trouble sewing right now.
tumbling blocks ready to be hand sewn
There is constant worry as this virus wants to reproduce and spread and I watch neighbors still partying around me. It feels like an impending ...

sewing saturday from Not Afraid of Color

If this is Saturday, this is my weekly round-up of sewing stuff!
Not showing handwork today, it's the RSC teal Lozenges for this month.
cute and pretty fabric scraps

It was fun digging through, I picked 16 prints, and then cut 8 X 4 2 " squares in darks, and 8 X 4 2" squares in lights to sew on the corners.

Of course I kept the little cut off hst's and am trying something new with them.

I thought I would do a kit this week, to find my mojo... an
"easy" little pin cushion...

it didn't ...

sewing Saturday from Not Afraid of Color

One might think, if you're practicing social distance you might sew up all your projects.

I've been too worried or distracted to do a lot however. Creativity needs a certain energy.

I find I want to spend time watching mindless TV and movies, so hand work is the preferred outlet at the moment.

More tumbling blocks in teal and turquoise as well as black and white. I started this project for our long drive out to Colorado 2 years ago
In fact I have lots more basted little threesomes waiting for daylight to sew black fabrics with black ...

sewing saturday turquoise improv cabins from Not Afraid of Color

The color to use this month on rainbow scrap challenge is teal.
I choose to interpret that as turquoise since I have culled out turquoise scraps from the green, and blue scrap boxes
so I make a pile of strips and starter chunks, of both neutral and the month's color.
then I sew sew sew adding color on one side, neutral on the other. Stop after a while and see what's happening
and press them
start putting them on the wall to see how much to add to each block
add some more strips, press and realign til ...

Sewing Saturday working on a V-day quilt from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to this week's round up of sewing adventures.
I wanted to try the quilt as you go hexie idea, and have a big collection of Valentine fabrics...
just a portion
and I make a V-day quilt each year dh and I have been married (26 years this year, time flies when you're having fun) so I just jumped in.
I didn't have the missouri star template so I used my old hexie template, then added 5/8" with another ruler outside each side to cut the backing. I cut batting same size as center piece, layered ...

sewing saturday from Not Afraid of Color

Sewing Saturday is here, but it's been a slow week here at chez LeeAnna
I quilted some hand made hexi mug rugs.
Felt on the back
I saw that I had tried some hand embroidery on my felt, so I positioned it on the back of one. The blue rug has light gray felt. One more to quilt and I need to get these little Christmas gifties in the mail.
After all, only 11 months and change til Christmas!

File this under better late than never.

I sewed a few more hexi stars while in the car...
