Something is Better than Nothing from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been carefully watching the homemade mask discussion over the last few weeks. We went from "they don't do anything" to "you should wrap a bandana around your face" and finally to "wear a mask when you go to the grocery store". It was a social experiment set on overdrive. I collected a few links to tutorials along the way. Everyone had their idea of what a mask should be. By the time the CDC announced people should wear face coverings when going out, the number of tutorials and free patterns was mind numbing. Domesticity, a Baltimore fabric ...

Call Me Badge Holder from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week I shared my first Call Me badge holder. Saturday I grabbed some fabrics to make a couple more. This time, I used this fun tentacle print from Spoonflower.
Darling Husband wanted something bright and difficult to miss. I think this hit the mark.
This one is a little wider than the first one I made and I'm super pleased with how it turned out.
Now he will be ready the next time we get to attend a convention.
I made myself a slightly larger one, too. I love the happy crab and jellyfish!

Call Me Badge Holder from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last year when we went to Relaxicon they handed out these badge holders with registration. I liked the idea of a badge holder that holds more than your badge, but this one really didn't hold all the things I want to carry, or not conveniently, in one place. If I had to pick one reason I didn't like it is the cord. Sure, it is adjustable, but once you put your cell phone inside that cord will cut into your neck more than you would think.
I found a great pattern called Call Me from By Annie that ...

We are going to have a sew along to make a sampler quilt using the one or a couple of blocks from each quilt. This is a fantastic way to try the blocks and you'll have a quilt when done! See below for the layout and fabric I'm using

Basket of HopeI am on a basket making frenzy!  Why?  I will... from Living Water Quilter

Basket of Hope

I am on a basket making frenzy!  Why?  I will submit an application and hope to be accepted in a local outdoor art festival this summer. The artist application requires a photo of your booth/table set-up. So, it means I need to make baskets for the photo as well as for the festival.( Assuming I am accepted.)

I try to design/make a few baskets each week to meet my goals.  Since my schedule is over-the-top full, I often double or triple dip projects. One project will cover more than one commitment.  This time I decided ...

Hello 2020! from Becca's Crazy Projects

How does a quilter start the new year? With a fresh rotary blade and a new needle for the sewing machine. These are some of the happiest things!
I have had a few yards of Pellon Flex Foam in my studio for a while. I finally decided to give a go. This is the backside of a quilted piece for a project.
This is the front side of the resulting piece. I rediscovered By Annie patterns and decided to give one of the free patterns a try. I chose the Easy Does It bag because I knew I had all ...

◌ Washi Double Dresden Wreath ◌ from Charm About You

green and white dresden plate christmas fabric wreath by Charm About You

It feels wonderful to have a new version of the Double Dresden Wreath, made using the free tutorial I created a couple of years ago. The original was demonstrated on Sewing Quarter, the samples that hung in the studio stayed there, and I am so happy to now have one for our house. I made this wreath for my December project as an Aurifil Artisan, our challenge was to create a holiday themed project. Perfect for brightening any door or bare looking wall space, the wreath pattern is a merry make!

My original plan was slightly different but this was ...

A Piece of… History The day has finally arrived!  I may... from Living Water Quilter

A Piece of… History

The day has finally arrived!  I may reveal the secret bundle of gift-wrapped “surprise” fabric I received from Island Batik!  My surprise fabric is Speakeasy, a collection available December 2019.

Tada!  Brick-by-Brick, a new quilt design featuring Speakeasy.

Brick-by-Brick, is a reminder to keep a link to the past and it’s a quilt designed for the Island Batik  A Piece of Blog Hop. Brick-by-brick we can remove history from our view or we can preserve it.

NOTE: Island Batik provided the fabric for Brick-by-Brick.

Modern Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Michael Miller Fabrics donated some fabric to the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild to help with our charitable quilt-making. I picked up a bundle of fabric at the last meeting and I finally pulled it out to come up with a plan.
This border print is super cute and deserved to be highlighted. I did some measuring and decided on a layout. I worked up a design in Electric Quilt, pulled fabrics from my collection to make up the top, and got cutting.
I'm not sure how modern this quilt is. It uses traditional blocks, but modern fabrics.
Here is ...

Witchy! from Becca's Crazy Projects

When Sew Desu Ne? released this witch hat pattern last month I had to buy it.

I went to the big box fabric store to pick up the materials for my witch had and came home with so much more. All those sales paid off, though. I walked out spending only $30.
This foam was in the remnants bin and just want I wanted to make my hat.
The Halloween costume fabrics were on sale and this fabric just screamed witch/wizard hat to me.
I was concerned I was making it too small, but it turned out just right ...

Perfect 5, blocks 3 & 4 from the Charm pack book from Pat Sloan's Blog

Article continues below these Amazon Goodies

Pat sloan block 2 and 3 pic 3

*** My Blocks ***

I'm making one of each block from the bonus sampler that goes along with the Perfect 5 book.  The sampler sheet & photo are at the end.

So as I'm making this weeks blocks I realized that I was thinking about how they are constructed. I was analyzing if this block was 'fun' to make, because if it was fun then I'll go back and use it for a full quilt.

  • Top block is Sugar Cookies.. and I REALLY love it! this layout is like the full quilt in the ...

Vinyl Project Pouch from Becca's Crazy Projects

The Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild had their annual retreat this past weekend. I didn't have the time to attend but I did join in through social media. One of the prompts was to make the retreat project: a vinyl project pouch using a free pattern available on Moda Bake Shop designed by Kristine of Center Street Quilts. I'm in mood for things of the season, so I grabbed my box of Halloween fabrics to see what I could come up with.
I had some leftover 3.5" squares of Alexander Henry Ghastlies fabric. I cut some contrast and ...

The story of our backyard transformation, DIY retaining wall, sprinklers, and sod from edeenut

It's been years since I've had a house to settle in and make some changes to. Our house we own in Riverside, California that we lived in for over nine years is now a rental. We moved to Orange county and rented for 3 years and now we are renting in Arizona. We have been pretty content with the way the rentals were set up design wise. But in December we get to move into our newly purchased house and I'm so giddy to be at the point where I can make changes. Paint, new flooring, new ...
