Odds and Ends from Becca's Crazy Projects

Don't forget to change your rotary blade! I realized I was working entirely too hard to trim up my fabric and quilt blocks. It was time for a new rotary blade. Happiness is a new rotary blade.
I had an abundance of half-used Knit Picks Felici that needed to be wound into balls. This is when I love my Stanwood Needlecraft large ball winder. When I bought it I thought it an extravagance but it really is the last ball winder am I likely to ever buy so it was totally worth it.
I even cranked another pair of ...

Kraft-tex and Braided Rope    Please join me and watch the... from Living Water Quilter

Kraft-tex and Braided Rope

Please join me and watch the process of making a tray.  The tray is made with braided cotton rope and strips of Kraft-tex. Kraft-tex, a vegan leather,  is a rugged paper that sews like fabric, can be washed, dyed and more.  I have compiled a list of supplies I use for rope basket making on the Living Water Quilter Amazon  Page.

NOTE: As a Kraft-tex Ambassador, C&T Publishing supplied the Kraft-tex for this project.  Marsala is the Ambassador July color of the month.  I am also an Amazon affiliate and receive a small sum ...

Totes Totes from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been digging through my fabric and pulling out pieces I think will work for masks. When I find pieces big enough to make totes (about 1/2 yard of fabric per tote) I press it and set it aside. I did that all week.
I sat down to assemble them on Sunday. I didn't even count them first.
When I sew these I move through them rather quickly, sewing a piece and dropping it beside me.
Assembly-line sewing at its finest. These are constructed using my serger then finished on the Juki.
They do stack up nicely ...

More Masks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Every time I think I have made enough masks I realize my work isn't done.

No matter how many I make I continue to find fabrics that are just too much fun and friends and family who need more masks.
I use the free mask pattern from Craft Passion. I want to keep the Halloween prints for myself.
I cut the elastic for medium masks to 7.5" long.
I cut the elastic to 8.5" for large masks. So many fun fabrics.

Sewing Machine Gifting from Becca's Crazy Projects

A coworker asked for a recommendation on a sewing machine. I said I could give him a sewing machine. All I had to do was dig around and find one.

I dug around in the attic and pulled out this winner. Winner because it works, and has most of the parts. I did some sample sewing to make sure all the stitches worked.
I couldn't find the spool pin cap (this one is from my Juki). But it isn't strictly speaking a requirement. He should be able to get one aftermarket, or 3D printed. In a pinch you ...

More Masks from Becca's Crazy Projects

I was asked again to make masks. Mask sewing has been an exhausting endevour for me. At first, it was just really sad. Now, it isn't so sad but still not how I want to spend my creative time all the time.

As an experiment, I timed myself when I made this mask. From start to finish, including pressing, cutting, assembly, and finishing, took about 15 minutes. It doesn't seem like much time, does it? For such a little thing. A little thing that can prevent people from continuing to spread a deadly disease. This is the pattern ...

Dreams Mini-Quilt from Becca's Crazy Projects

Several years ago I used an embroidered alphabet from Urban Threads Embroidery to create a min-quilt for a friend. We share a dark view of the world and joke that now that we are old ladies (neither claims to be a lady, to be sure) all our dreams are dead. I wanted to make sure she remembered me always so I made her a mini-quilt similar to what you see above.
She asked me to make another one for another friend of hers and I said yes. I used the alphabet to recreate the design because I didn't know ...

Odds and Ends from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes I will go through my collection of fabric, pull out a few, and get stitching. Here is a stack of fabric I pulled last week. What did I make? Well, a bunch of things.
I used this fun camper fabric and a zipper from ZipIt on Etsy (they are taking a break right now but they are my favorite zipper vendor) to make a pillow case for my travel pillow.
Definitely going with me when we can travel more freely again.
I used the free pattern from the Green Bag Lady to cut out nine totes. These are quick ...

Charity Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Blogger has made some changes to the blog drafting tool and I'm trying to give it a go before it becomes the standard. It appears the intent was to make the tool easier to use for those writing their posts on mobile devices. I draft my posts using my desktop computer. I can type faster, pull content faster, and generally get from idea to blog post faster on my desktop than I can with my mobile device. I've been blogging either with a desktop of laptop for almost seven years. Change is hard. I just wish the new ...

Don't Blink Poncho #2 from Becca's Crazy Projects

I recently shared my first Don't Blink Poncho. After looking at it for a week, I decided I needed to make another so at least some of the wording would be right-side up.

While the fabric has that tossed/scrambled look, I think it looks better on this one than the last.

Here they are side-by-side. The left is the first one I made (I think the words look upside down). The right is the second one (I think the words look right-side up). Now I have to figure out what to do with one of them. I certainly ...

Quick Laundry Bag from Becca's Crazy Projects

We have quite a collection of face masks. These little bits of  fabric end up in pant legs and trapped in bed linens. I wanted a way to keep them all in one place both once they've been worn and when going through the laundry. I grabbed this piece of fabric, a 16" zipper, and got sewing.
This project took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Fabric is cut 16" by width of fabric. I left the selvages on so I wouldn't have to hem before adding the zipper. I used french seams to finish the side ...
