Power Lines - A Ruler Quilting Workshop

I am thrilled to share my new ruler workshop, Power Lines. The workshop features designs and techniques using ONE acrylic free-motion quilting ruler. Power Lines is a foundational ruler quilting workshop. We explore basic ruler quilting techniques, straight and curved line designs. Some of the designs learned are featured HERE.

To make it a fun and easy one-day workshop, I’ve designed two pre-printed panels exclusively for the workshop. The 16-inch square panels are designed so you, the quilter, can apply techniques and designs learned in the workshop to a fun mini quilt that ...

Janome Ruler Kit Have you seen the Janome Ruler Work Kit?  It’s... from Living Water Quilter

Janome Ruler Kit

Have you seen the Janome Ruler Work Kit?  It’s been available for several months now. As a Westalee Design Accredited Teacher, I received a kit from Sew Steady a couple of months ago.

For less than $100, the kit includes six fun templates and a Crosshair square ruler. Plus, the kit includes pattern instructions for each ruler and a DVD tutorial for making and quilting a ruler carrying case.

I used two templates in the kit to make my Family Love banner. The Hearts of Plenty and Pointed Oval templates can be used to make unique ...

Quilt As You Go with June Tailor

Have you heard about June Tailor’s Quilt As You Go batting projects? June Tailor gave me a few of the batting projects for some playtime in my studio. So, I decided to have some quilting fun and use fabrics from a new Island Batik Fall collection.

It is a great way to use your fabric scraps and precuts. I used fabric scraps from the Dear William collection to make the mug mat. As an Island Batik Ambassador, I am given fabric by Island Batik.

Score! From my fabric stash I fussy cut ...

Ruler Quilting Marathon

Last December I was finally home more than a week. So it was a good time to start learning how to use a few more templates. The Honeycomb template by Westalee Design was one.

The Honeycomb is a fun template with many possibilities.

I used the spacing gauge with each quilted rotation to help ensure the first and final rotation met and completed a uniform design.

Another template I am falling in love with is Spin an Echo # 6. Isn’t it a gorgeous design?!  Westalee Design has a Spin an Echo Sampler set that includes ...

Whole Cloth Ruler Quilting

Whole cloth ruler quilting isn’t new. What is new is the HUGE variety of acrylic rulers now available to domestic machine quilters. As we accumulate rulers for specific purposes, we should also consider how they can be used across a wide range of applications.

Combining some old favorites with a new spinning template is a fun exercise for learning, applying and designing with rulers.  I didn’t plan.

New Ruler Designs for a New Year

In 2017 many quilters have joined the free motion ruler quilting craze and are quilting with rulers on their domestic machines.  It’s becoming a central part of finishing our quilt projects. This small quilt top was completely quilted with rulers.

For 2018, I am working on NEW designs(top) for the Westalee Design’s Sampler Set 1. The set has six templates that when the basics of the techniques are learned, the quilter will have the skills to use many of Westalee Design’s 250 plus templates.

If you are ready to ...

Small Designs Big Impact

I’ve dipped my toes into miniature ruler quilting designs and it feels good!

Westalee Design has mini ruler templates that have the potential to give our quilt project impact and awesome texture. Our first inclination maybe to use it as a background fill for applique. It’s a good beginning, but let’s venture into uncharted territory.

The sampler above includes templates from the Mini Fills Sampler Set and the Mini Baptist Fan Set.

The Mini Fill set includes 5 templates.

  • Mini Fill Zig Zag
  • Mini Fill Bricks
  • Mini Fill Clamshells
  • Mini Fill Tiles
  • Mini ...

Westalee Design Accreditation

Wow!  I had the honor of being one of five U.S. quilting teachers selected to become a Westalee Design by Sew Steady Accredited Teacher. We spent two days training with Leonie and Bill West, the creators of the Westalee Design ruler foot and template system for domestic machines.

We all met in Eugene, OR, the headquarters of Sew Steady, the U.S. manufacturer and distributor of the Westalee Design foot and ruler system.

I was excited to meet and learn from this amazing team of quilting educators. Please join me in congratulating Paula Reid, Donna McCauley ...
