I May Have A Scrap Problem... And a Time Problem! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

May is over.  Where did it go?  Unfortunately, I didn't get anything done on my list of scrappy goals from May (a record-breaking Hands2Help Challenge may have had a little bit to do with that!) but it was still a good month!  June may not be much better, but I'll try just jumping the May goals up to June and see if I can get them done before the end of the month!

In the meantime, this probably doesn't quite count as scrappy sewing, but I did make a quilt top last week using some ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Is Taking A Very Short Break! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, I may have a scrap problem, but this week I've got an even bigger problem - about 100 prizes that need to be packaged up and put in the mail!  I haven't touched my sewing machine OR my scraps in two weeks, and until I get those packages in the mail, I won't be sewing at all!  So I'm taking a very short blog break (basically this post) so I can concentrate on that task, and be back in time for Whoop Whoop Friday!

But of course we need a little bit of eye ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I have realized that it is time to write this week's Wednesday post, and - - - I got nothing!  I have been so busy working on repairing a vintage quilt and sprucing up my front yard that I haven't really worked on scraps at all this week.  But fortunately I did find some beautiful inspiration on Instagram this week, so I'll share that so we can all rev up our desires to do some scrappy sewing...

Isn't this a glorious explosion of color?  She calls it her triptych quilt, and if I remember correctly, it's ...

Hands2Help 2019 - Meet Guest Blogger Joanne! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I'm so glad you're here!  It's time for another guest blogger and today I'm pleased to turn the blog over to Joanne!  Joanne has been involved with Hands2Help for many years now, and was actually the one to give me a push to feature the rectangle in my series of pre-H2H tutorials this year!  She has long been a lover of rectangles and is here to share more about them with us today - so without further ado, here she is!

Thank you Sarah for offering me the opportunity to be a guest blogger this ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Some Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a busy week in my hometown (any Garrison Keillor fans out there?) and so I haven't done much in the way of scrappy sewing.  I did cut up some scraps...

...a task which I had been neglecting for far too long! Unfortunately, this barely made a dent in the stack, but at least it's a start.  I also did a bunch of scrap cutting and sorting at church last week, which is probably why I didn't feel like doing a lot of it at home.  That's no excuse, I know!

So ...

Hands2Help 2019 - Meet Guest Blogger Sharon! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Happy Easter!  I hope you have all had a beautiful day - I plan to spend it with family, hunting eggs and eating lots of fabulous food. It's always a big day for us!

It's also time for us to meet another guest blogger in this year's Hands2Help Challenge!  Sharon, who blogs over at Vrooman's Quilts, is a fabulous scrap quilter, a wonderful supporter of the Challenge since it began, and to top it all off, she has the greatest address EVER!  I want to live on Quilt Lane too!  If you've never visited ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... An Idea, and Some Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Scraps really do multiply, don't they?  It seems like most of the quilts I've been making are scrappy ones, but the piles don't get any smaller!  So I keep watching out for inspiration - and wow, is it out there!  Here's just a few of the beautiful quilts I've seen lately...

I love the colors in this one - all those bold saturated prints really make a statement, don't they?

Looks like I've got a thing for saturated colors, doesn't it?  But the bold shapes in this one make me smile.

Nothing ...

Thank you so ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Goodbye March, Hello April! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow!  How fast is this year flying by, right?  It's hard to believe, but it's already April.  It's been a good year so far, and I do believe that I've come to love scrap sewing!

At the end of February, I decided that for my March scrappy goals I wanted to quilt my Long Time Gone quilt and finish the top of my Gypsy Wife quilt.  And I'm happy to say that I met both of those goals!  Here's my Long Time Gone...

...as it hung on the line drying!  It has ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Gypsy In The House! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Scraps, scraps everywhere - they can really consume you, can't they?  But every so often, it's nice to have a finish, and be able to look at it and know that you took something that could have been thrown away and turned it into something beautiful.  You may have seen this post about my Long Time Gone quilt...

...and today, I'm happy to say that now I can add Gypsy Wife to the (nearly) finished column!  I went back and looked through my pictures, and found this one, dated August 8, 2017.

That was the day ...

Rockin' Rectangles - On Line! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow - it's finally here!  Today is the last tutorial in the Rockin' Rectangles series, which means that the signups for the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2019 start next week!  I hope you're as excited about that as I am!  But today I'll be sharing my favorite tutorial in this series - favorite because it helped me use up some of the contents of my String Hamper of Shame...

Earlier this year, I decided that this was just. too. much, and started pressing and folding the strips into a tub.  I filled up a tub...

...but still ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... A Disappearing Act! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

As you probably already know, I was fortunate enough to attend QuiltCon last week.  I signed up for a class called Dynamic Quilts with Solids, taught by Nydia Kehnle.  Considering how many solid scraps I have, you can guess that I was really excited!  We were instructed to bring about 125 7.5" squares, in at least 25 different colors.  Well, I went nuts, pulled everything I could cut a 7.5" square out of, without rhyme or reason, and showed up to class.

This is the class instructor, Nydia Kehnle, and one of her fabulous quilts!  We ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... It's QuiltCon Week! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it's QuiltCon week, which means that I haven't had much time to dedicate to scrappy sewing!  I've got a few things I have to make headway on before I can play at QuiltCon this weekend, so most of my time has been spent on that.  However, I did do a little scrappy sewing that I'm saving for Friday's post - be sure to stop in and check it out!

In the meantime, since this is the week for inspiration of all sorts, here's some gorgeous eye candy I found on the internet ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Progress and Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Scraps just keep multiplying, don't they?  But I am making some progress - I got all my solid squares cut for QuiltCon (next week - hooray!!) and yesterday I put my scrappy string quilt on the frame!

I experimented with a new quilting design - sort of like a freeform freehand Baptist Fan.  It used a lot of bobbin thread, but it was fun to do and I think it's going to look wonderful when it's washed and dried! Binding will be done today - it's the first sunny day we've had in a week and the ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... What a Month! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

We are in the final days of January, and so it's time to review the month, scrap-wise.  Even though my scraps still seem to be replicating themselves while I sleep, I did make some progress this month.

At the beginning of January, I decided to work on my "String Hamper of Shame" and also to work with my solids scraps to cut 7.5" squares for a QuiltCon class.

This tub is full of 8.5" wide pieces of strings, which I created after pressing a bunch of strings from my hamper.  And no, it didn't ...

Rockin' Rectangles Begins! Place Your Bet... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to the very first week of the Rockin' Rectangles Quilt-Along!  Now, this is not your typical quilt-along.  Rather than working on one quilt design over the next six weeks, I will be sharing six tutorials for simple quilt designs that you may choose to use for the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge, which starts immediately after the quilt-along.  All the quilts fit into the theme of Rockin' Rectangles, involving rectangle shapes or rectangle-shaped blocks in their construction.  There being nothing new under the sun, these designs were inspired by beautiful quilts seen out and about, but the tutorials ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I have been doing a lot of scrap and stash sewing in the last two weeks, but I'm going to hold off on showing those until the Rockin' Rectangles quilt-along starts this Sunday.  In the meantime, I've been amazed at all the beautiful scrappy goodness that's been flooding Instagram!  I guess everyone starts their year with a resolution to use their scraps.  So here's a little bit of inspiration to jumpstart your year...

What a great way to use up those bonus HSTs!  And I've got a pile of them just waiting to ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... No Shame Here! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I love when I can combine two goals into one project - don't you?  I needed a quilt design for the Rockin' Rectangles series that starts on January 27th, and the String Hamper of Shame started calling my name.  Remember this?

Well, many hours of work ended up putting a small dent in that hamper, and creating this box full of strings cut into 8.5" lengths.

After lots and lots and LOTS of chain piecing, I ended up with a tub that looked like this...

...which, when put back into neat little stacks, looked like this.  Not ...

Can You Help? The Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Recently I was asked by Carole of From My Carolina Home to help spread the word about her current project, collecting quilts for the many families affected by Hurricanes Florence and Michael on the North Carolina coast.  They are hoping to collect more than 4500 quilts for those whose homes were completely destroyed!  That's a lot of quilts, but definitely not too many for this fabulous quilting community to help meet.

This project is going to go on through Summer 2019, so there's plenty of time to make one or more quilts, or participate in other ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? 2018 Annual Quilts Are A Wrap! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Oh my!  It's Friday, and not just any Friday, but the last one before Christmas!  I hope you've been making great headway on all your Christmas goody making, and have plenty to whoop about this week.  So let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

As I've share previously, I make each one of my grandchildren a quilt each year at Christmastime, said quilt representing something about their life during the previous year.  I've already shared Nathanael's and Emmy's, so this week it's Lilliana's turn!

Meet my beautiful granddaughter Lilliana!  She just turned eleven ...
