Tråden tog slut from Veriquilt

I SLEPT IN from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK - I'm late with the blog. Why? Because I slept in! I was wide awake in the middle of the night thinking about my projects so I got up to check some stuff. Went back to bed and now it's late - really late!

The girls will not get a walk this morning and they are NOT going to be happy. I should be leaving for Monday sewing right now!

Oh well - I'm going to be late. It's not like I need to be there to open the door. I'll get there when I get there ...

"SAQA benefit auction" nærmer seg from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

Form och kontrast from Veriquilt

Vidare ...

Ideas, Images, and Updates April 2019 from Tales of a Stitcher

April also known as Break Up—the AK version of spring—was as mucky as it could get, and I was home to enjoy every bit of it. That is until weather dumped loads of snow on us. Yep. We were buried for the last days of April. (I was to busy quilting to stop and take a photo, but trust me—it was a MESS.)

As my schedule gets busier, I know that every moment at home counts. I can’t be diddling around on Raverly all day long. No. No. No. But if I get a task done ...

Books Beside My Bed from The Snarky Quilter

When I can’t get to exhibits, shows, or talks I like to refresh my design sense with books that feature artists. Right now I have three in rotation by my bed: “Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation,” “Georgia O’Keeffe: … Continue reading

Upcycle from Notes from Studio B

SAQA put out a call for a show called Upcycle, using repurposed items. The call went out last fall and the 31st of this month is the deadline for entries. I knew immediately what I wanted to use, but not how to use it. I saved 13 used Starbucks coffee filters that were in a bag of grounds that they give away for compost. These filters have been around my studio for a very long time just waiting for their opportunity become art.

The filters have been visible in the studio for several months now, I've come up with ...

Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

SAQA trenger penger for å holde organisasjonshjulene i gang.

SAQA Mini Group and Daily Stitching #2 Done from Notes from Studio B

Last Friday four SAQA members and a guest (an artist, but not with fiber) met at my house. We started by spending time in Studio B looking over some of the wonderful artwork in the trunk show.

Linda V, Carol, Gail, Mary Beth and Carol with the trunk show.

We ate lunch and had some wonderful discussions about what each of us wanted from the group. Then back out to the studio to play with some indigo.

It was a great afternoon that slipped by very fast.

Over the weekend I came home from my walk with a large handful ...

Distractions from Notes from Studio B

In a couple of weeks I will be hosting our local SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) group and we will have a part of SAQA's traveling trunk show here. This means that Studio B needs to be cleaned and organized somewhat so that we have a spot for  the trunk show. We are also going to be doing some indigo and eating lunch. I've been gradually organizing and putting things away and have made some progress but I keep finding things to play with. Last weekend I was putting some paints
on the shelf where they belonged and ...

Art Inc, by Lisa Congdon–Book Review from Art and Quilting in Camden

I love it when things come full circle.  I was reading a Studio Art Quilt Associates Friday e-Blast newsletter, which had a link to an article in the NYT about the 20 best books on business for artists. Let’s face it:  as an artist, we’d rather make art and not think about business.  But if you don’t, you may not be able to afford to stay an artist.  Book number 6 on the list is Art Inc.: The Essential Guide for Building Your Career as an Artist by Lisa Congdon, whom I first came to know about ...

SAQA Auction 2: Five Circles and a Grid from Art and Quilting in Camden

The season is coming soon for the SAQA / Studio Art Quilt Associates annual fundraising auction:  bidding begins September 15th.  To learn more about the auction, go here. For my first Dream Collection, I chose Five Circles and a Line. Here are Five more Circles, with a Grid:

Karen Hansen’s Celebration, part of the SAQA 2018 Benefit Auction.  I love the play of the curved red against the starkness of the black and white.

Lynn Koolish, Black on White #7. I’m usually not one for abstracts, but I love the spontaneity ...

SAQA Auction 1: Five Circles and a Line from Art and Quilting in Camden

The season is coming soon for the SAQA / Studio Art Quilt Associates annual fundraising auction:  bidding begins September 15th.  To learn more about the auction, go here. For my first collection, I chose Five Circles and a Line.

Lune Rouge by Gerrie Congdon. This quilt just about jumped off the screen at me. Although I have never been an abstracts person, I have always loved circles. The hand stitching and combination of red-orange and blue is wonderful!

Susan Else is a master at what she does and her stellar work always goes quickly. “Chorus” reminded me of what I called ...

Selected works from the SAQA exhibition 'Textile Posters' : currently featuring in Quilting Arts Magazine from Claire Passmore

Quilting arts magazine, August/September 2018
I had a lovely surprise yesterday morning. As I ate my breakfast and browsed through my news feed  I saw a post from fellow SAQA member Heather Pregger, in which she mentioned that her quilt 'VOLCANO' features in the August/September edition of Quilting Arts magazine. Her fabulous quilt, along with 23 others is part of the SAQA exhibition Textile Posters and I am very proud to say that my quilt '3 Wise Words' is one of those quilts selected by the juror, Joseph Lupo, and also features in the ...

She persisted/Ocean quilt published in Quiltmania from Art and Quilting in Camden

My ocean quilt, She persisted in her quest to reach the shore and sing the anthem of the sea, was one of 16 quilts featured in an article on the 2018 Road to California shows (where it won a First Place art quilt ribbon no less). The other quilts in the article are all stupendous, so I am quite blown away and honored to be included.

Thank you so much Martha Sielman, Executive Director of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) and Quiltmania! Martha emailed a couple days ago asking if I had seen my quilt, She persisted in her quest ...
