Next Up baby quilt featuring fabrics by Elea Lutz from Carried Away Quilting

Have you been searching for a sweet and simple baby quilt pattern? Look no further than my Next Up pattern! This charm pack friendly pattern finishes at 38” square and is easy enough to stitch up in a weekend.

My sample quilt features darling prints from three Elea Lutz collections. When I sew with Elea Lutz fabrics, I find myself stopping often just to gaze at the tiny details. Viewing Elea’s art feels like reading a much loved children’s book . . . tender and familiar. I imagine this quilt bringing love and comfort to a little one!

Lumberjack Aaron Fabric from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Ahhhhhh!!! Look at this quilt! I love, love, love it!!! This quilt has been on my list of makes for soooo long. It feels wonderful to have this finished. The pattern is called Legendary, which is the perfect name for it. Seeing Bigfoot on a quilt makes me smile and laugh. It stirs my imagination. As I drove up Mount Lemmon (here in Tucson, AZ) to take photos of this quilt, I envisioned Bigfoot frolicking through the forest and peeking out over the rocks. The fabric I used makes this quilt even more spectacular. It is called Lumberjack Aaron. In ...

Dorothy’s Journey Fabric from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Dorothy's Journey Fabric

This month I have been following the yellow brick road and it has taken me to Oz. This nostalgic collection features characters like Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, the Tin Man, witches, flying monkeys, and of course Dorothy. I love everything Jill Howarth creates. Her drawings are absolutely beautiful. These fabrics have yellows, pinks, hints of reds, teals, blues, greens, and black. My favorite color of all are the pops of metallic silver. I am such a fan of this collection called Dorothy’s Journey created for Riley Blake Designs.

Halloween Quilt – Costume Maker’s Ball from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

It’s that time of the year again, the sweet spot. A time when you can start a Halloween quilt and have plenty of time to finish it before the holiday is here. I love Halloween and all the things that come with it! I actually have a special basket where I store all my Halloween fabrics. This quilt will be the third Halloween quilt I have made (click here to see more Halloween projects), but that does not include Day of the Dead quilts. Yeah, I REALLY love Halloween fabrics. It might have something to do with the fact ...

• Backing fabric – approximately 22″ x 43″

• Black 3/4″ wide gross grain ribbon, approximately 10 yards

• A medium weight, double sided fusible web product – approximately 22″ x 43 ...

MCCQA – Cutting and Organizing from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

All right, all right!! It is week two of the Mod City Center Quilt Along. This week is the week to prepare your fabric the way you prefer. Some options are prewashing, ironing with water and ironing with starch. Currently, my process is starching and ironing both sides of my fabric. I hang them over my quilt rack to dry completely before I cut into it. I really like how this firms up the fabric a bit. Tell me how you prepare your fabric in your Instagram progress photo using #MCCQAcutting; I would love to hear about it. I usually ...

I LIke Thursday # 12 ~ The Creative Process from Life in the Scrapatch

I like finishing a project.

Hanging my first quilted project from my new long arm
on my dining room "studio" wall fills my heart with joy.
This started as a panel purchased when I needed a little spring in the dark of winter.
I picked this one because I liked the soft colors and the light in the center
of this digitally printed flower design.
It was a seed in my stash, waiting to be nourished.

I like starting a new project.

This one is a second version of the Block of the Week
sew-along happening at the
Canadian Quilters ...

Spring Linen Table Runner from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Easter Spring Time Linen Table Runner

I have been so delighted while creating this Linen Table Runner. It excites me because I have never made anything like it. This is my first time piecing with linen, second time using only solid fabrics, and I have never used a color palette like this before. These soft pastel linen fabrics have a subtle yet distinct difference to them. I am so happy with how this Spring Linen Table Runner turned out.

The fabrics are all Riley Blake Designs. They are a 55% Linen / 45% Cotton blend and that makes them perfect to make a light quilt or a ...

The Fan-tastic Quilt and Pattern from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Something that I cannot believe is that through all of my years of quilting, I have never made a Fourth of July quilt. It has been on my list of things to do. My Aunt Dourthy has star quilt that I adore!! I have always wanted to create something like it. Actually I bought a pattern with stars and stripes many years ago. Somehow the project has been pushed aside. But let me tell you, when I saw this line of red, white, and blues, I was inspired to create something fun and I knew that it had to be ...

DIY – Bunny Tail Napkin Ring from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Bunny Tail Napkin Ring

Growing up in my family, Easter was always one of the best holidays! When I was younger, my parents’ friends would host a wonderful backyard brunch after church. We would all eat delicious food, the children would hunt for eggs, and the event would end with a water balloon fight. My sister took over this holiday brunch so I have so enjoyed watching my nieces and nephews trample through the yard searching for eggs. This month, I received a few cuts of soft pastel linens from Riley Blake Designs, and my mind started spinning with all of the projects I ...
