Here Comes Christmas from ... Cat Patches

2020 has seemed exceedingly long, while also impossibly short. Here we are just a little over a month from the end of the year, and it seems as if the year has gone by without really being lived. Certainly a lot have died. One can only hope this will all end before we find ourselves at this date next year. I was thinking about all we have to be thankful for in 2020. When I consider where we were last January, I feel a little as if we were in a blissful state of naivete.

Irksome Errands from ... Cat Patches

We did all our running around town yesterday. We delivered packages to the post office, dropped off some donation items at Goodwill, picked up two big bags of birdseed at the feed store, and then went to the human feed store for groceries. My Christmas mask worn a few days early made me a little less grinchy at the grocery store yesterday.

Looking at this picture reminds me that my nose is pretty well healed now. There is just the slightest ridge where the incision was made. I'm told I can massage that in a few weeks to help ...

A Wet Week of Hand Stitching from Cat Patches

Good morning! I missed you guys! Did you miss me? We could get just a sliver of cell signal when we were out on the beach this past week, but in the RV...Nada. Zilch. Nothing. We were unplugged.

As expected, it rained almost the entire time we were gone this past week. No worries though. I spent my time hand-stitching. Mike read his books, and the kitties were busy on woofie patrol. Smitty took the first watch:

Sadie took the second:

But let's just back up a few days, shall we? Before we left home, I finished off ...

Saturday Sewing from ... Cat Patches

It was an easy-going day yesterday. I'm still taking it slow since my Mohs procedure, although it's healing well. The pain has nearly gone away completely, and the swelling is likewise nearly gone. I had sincere thoughts about getting some housework done, but then decided to rearrange the calendar so I could avoid it until after we get back from our camping trip. We're not expecting visitors...ever. So, what the heck? After lunch, I took a long nap. The stress of the past couple of weeks has left me exhausted, it seems, no matter how much ...

D-Day from ... Cat Patches

It's the day I've been dreading. Today is the Mohs procedure on my poor nose. It's the fourth one I've had on my nose. My doctor is skillful. He's done the other three as well, with no scarring, and so I'm going into this dreading it, but not fearful. It's good having a doctor I trust. The worst part is the numbing medication, and then the recovery when the numbing medication wears off. I'm confident I'll survive it, but I'm not happy about it. My appointment isn't until this ...

Pins and Needles from ... Cat Patches

Holy smokes! What a day yesterday! I can't really tell you anything in particular happened. It's what didn't happen that has me on pins and needles. You know...the "E" word. I could hardly tear myself away from the vote tally, and watched obsessively most of the day. Mike and I went out to run some errands around mid-day and that helped to channel some of that nervous energy. When we got home, I walked around to the back side of the house to snap this picture of our Japanese maple trees. Aren't these incredible? No ...

Fabric Therapy from Cat Patches

There's nothing like a trip to the fabric store to drown your sorrows. Thank you for all your suggestions about how to continue with my quilt. They were all good suggestions, and they all required delaying this finish. I'm really wanting to move on, and so a fabric famine can't stand in my way. Besides...it's election day. Time to be decisive. Decisive, not divisive. Lets sew with decision, not division. (Hm...I wonder how many more of these I can come up with.) Jump in the boat, and vote! Put on your coat. Bring your ...

Lots of Sewing from Cat Patches

We got through our grocery shopping trip without too much trouble yesterday. I'll never forgive my grocery store...one of those mega marts...for moving the cat food to the far end of the store. It's their way of forcing pet owners to walk through the whole store, presumably picking up non-list items along the way, before they can finish their grocery shopping. Walmart does this too, and that's only one reason I dislike Walmart. Anyway...we didn't need cat food yesterday, and so our mileage was less. And this begs the question...why move the ...

Obsessive Sewing from ... Cat Patches

When I wrote yesterday, "if the day goes as expected," I should have known better. It was the death knell for the day to go as expected. As I published my post, I noticed something unusual on the blog. There was a Photobucket logo on a few of my images. It's a long story about this, but let's just say I didn't feel like paying yet another monthly fee to yet another online service that had been free in the past. Instead, I downloaded any photos from Photobucket onto my hard drive, and then waited to see ...

A Little More Progress from ... Cat Patches

If the day goes as I think it will today, I should have the Waste Not Whatnots quilt top finished. I'll say one thing about it: it's given me a good reason to procrastinate on vacuuming the downstairs. It is dropping lots of black threads everywhere on the light carpeting. Yesterday, I had good intentions of dusting and vacuuming the downstairs, but then realized I'd be wasting time. Yeah, sure. That's what I thought. You probably thought the same thing, and you just didn't mention it.

So here's how the day went yesterday. Here ...
