December furtle from Espritpatch

Despite a flu-like illness taking most of us down for a good week, December has been a little productive/creative.

One long-standing UFO now finished just before Christmas

One party dress finished but not worn because the flu got the better of me

Some Christmas sewing for a more sustainable festive period with some gift bags and some napkins

And a few hours spent on the Cricut to work out how to use it and create some papercraft for Christmas presents.

Linking to December Furtle.

2022 In Review from Sew Preeti Quilts

As I sat writing about the year 2022, I wondered - what did I say about 2020? Unexpected.
What did I say about 2021? It was a year marked by assault on democracy, our voting rights and our bodies.

What can I say about 2022? The most significant world event has to be the unprovoked attack on Ukraine.
The most significant events in the US would include anti-LGBTQ policies and violence, continuing gun violence, and the monumental decision to overturn the landmark ruling Roe v. Wade.

Sadly (or appropriately) I made a quilt inspired (or disgusted) by each of those events ...

Best of 2022 from Espritpatch

It has been quite a chaotic year really. We had quite a lot of renovation work done on the house, which has seen a lot of disruption. We have had all the ceilings down (yes there has been a lot of dust for a long time) and have had to move furniture around from one room to the other as the work was going on. 95% of the work is completed, most of the stuff is back to where it belongs (but not quite all of it yet). I have also acquired a permanent sewing space in a corner of ...

12 Days of Christmas Sale and Christmas Projects from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Christmas is coming; the goose is getting fat. Please put a penny in the old man’s hat… Yes. This is the song I am listing to as I sit down to write this post. I am in dismay thinking that Christmas is only a few weeks away. I started planning what I was going to do for Christmas months ago. Still, after being away on a quilting cruise, put on by Stitching Heaven, for a week, then Thanksgiving and trying to catch up with work, I scaled back what I would be doing to a 12 Days of Christmas ...

November in review from Espritpatch

Another late review again... the month has been very difficult for our family sadly, we've been trying to get over the traumatic experience but it will take time. With that most of our "free" time and all our energy has been sapped up to be honest so there has been very little sewing.

I caught up with mini sew along blocks, I made 20 in total

And I also finished a sewing UFO: the Ultimate Coat which had been over 1 year in the making.

I was hoping/ planning to make a winter coat but I hardly started it ...

October in review from Espritpatch

Another late review, I guess I might have an excuse since we were away until Monday afternoon and quite jet-lagged on our return. We were lucky enough to spend 5 days in New York City. We all had a fabulous time, busy sightseeing and walking around this most vibrant town. I even managed to visit a few fabrics and trimmings stores, after all our hotel was conveninently located in the Garment District (that wasn't on purpose, honest!)

And for the rest of the month before our trip, we still had all the renovation work going on with 2 bedrooms ...

September in review from Espritpatch

I was planning to write this post over the weekend but we've had such a busy time trying to get wall paper off the walls of my youngest's bedroom that there was no time or energy left... September has been such a busy month really and very little time for sewing actually. First of all, school started back... We had friends visiting from the UK for a week, it was so good to finally see them as this was the third attempt, 2 previous times were canceled because of covid.  I went to London for a few days ...

August recap from Espritpatch

August has been a busy month but a different busy with 2 weeks away from home on a relaxing holiday. Lots of time by the pool, a little going out and about (when the heat was bearable)... holidays are over and school starts again tomorrow, back to reality!

Before we went away I managed to finish not one but 2 garnments, one top (started in June...) and one dress completed in 3 days!

I also progressed on my cross stitch while we were away. Still a long way to go of course but at least there's been good progress ...

July in review from Espritpatch

Another month that has flown by really! First there were all the activities linked to the end of the school year and then the start of the school holidays. We also took a week off to spend some time in the Alps.

And covid struck during that time... so I spent quite some time stitching away from the balcony.

There was lot of car travel where I stitched some Dear Jane blocks.
Before school broke off I managed 2 Open Wide pouches for my youngest's teacher

I also worked a little on my top but still didn't finish ...

June in review from Espritpatch

My sewing space organisation had made enough progress so that I could sew a little, but then... disaster struck. The room got flooded and had to be more or less emptied... moving stuff AGAIN and sorting out to check the damage.

At least this month i managed to turn my machine on to make a set of open wide pouches for my middle daughter's form teacher. She even sent me a thank you note for them. My one and only finish this month!

I also cut a boxy top but that didn't go any further. It would be ...

May in review from Espritpatch

Sadly, it has been another month of sewing drought more or less. My sewing space is still not organised but looks more like a dumping space. I haven't turned my sewing machine on for over one month and I have hardly stitched for the whole month.

In turn, it has been another month of building work going on in over half of the house (still not finished sadly, even though we have finally recovered the use of most of the rooms) and of dust, dust and even more dust... I honestly can't wait for this work to be ...

April in review from Espritpatch

Well, I anticipated that I wouldn't have much time to sew, I didn't anticipate that I'd have no energy when some time was free. I guess there is far too much going on in the house really. Firstly hubby and our middle daughter caught Covid, that dampened our plans for the school holidays, and our friends could no longer visit. We had plan a birthday party and an Easter meal too and until the last minute, which modified our plans for Easter and having friends around. We had a dinner party and Easter here but until the ...

March in review from Espritpatch

This month, I have tried to pick up the Boho Heart sew-along mainly. I have managed to finish 16 blocks and of course I am behind still but at least, I have made some progress! I still have a few blocks cut or partially cut so hopefully I will be able to sew them soon....

I also tried to catch up with my Farmer's Wife quilt but I haven't been further than selecting a few blocks and partially cutting them... not much really. The good news is that I thought I needed the 111 blocks to make my ...

February in review from Espritpatch

February has flown by really! We had a lovely week in the Alps, enjoying the snow, the sun and the ski. It was so good to be away after so long. Not much sewing has happened once more but at least I can report some little progress! No finish this month though...

I worked on my Farmer's Wife quilt, which is only about half way through now... with 5 more blocks. I also worked on my Dear Jane quilt while we were travelling and completed 2 more blocks and 1 rectangle. A grand total of 8 blocks this month ...

January in review from Espritpatch

First month of the year is over, and it has been rather cold and quite often grey or wet. I am happy that I have finally started to take more sewing time or at least sewing related time! Not much to show for it but I have revisited some abandoned projects and progressed some others. As long as I don't get distracted by 20 new projects, I might be able to finish a few this year!

First I finished a bag that I had planned to make early November, better late than never! It is already in use and ...

PHD in 2021 - recap from Espritpatch

Back in January, I joined Quilting Gail for PHD in 2021 by selecting 12 of my long list of UFOs that I was hoping to finish. Let's look back

4 projects completely finished
2 nearly there: one needs binding, one needs quilting and binding
1 with little progress (more blocks done)
5 with no progress...
So I didn't graduate for my PhD in 2021 but I guess I was half way there!

December in review from Espritpatch

Once again, there's been hardly any sewing this month... there's been quite a lot of baking before and for Christmas.

I adopted the new tradition of the mannele for Saint Nicolas

I've tried new-to-me buche recipes like this apple and speculoos one

Or this chocolate and raspberry one

We had a long road trip and I found my hand sewing kits just before leaving so managed to work on a Dear Jane block on the way.  It had been such a long time since

    we had a road trip

    I sewed in the car

    I worked on ...

Best of 2021 from Espritpatch

This year has been quite particular as I've hardly done any sewing since we moved house in the summer. I'm not really set up yet and I've not had much energy to sew either. Despite that in the first part of the year, I've managed a few projects/finishes and it is nice to take a look back for the Best of 2021 linky party with Cheryl.

1. The most made pattern - my collection of bags for teacher's gifts
2. The finished mini quilt
3. The finished UFO that became a parting gift for a ...

November in review from Espritpatch

Not much sewing to report again this month... it's been busy for sure with planned and unplanned events throwing things up a little... I made a quick trip to London for work, came home to be declared contact case because someone in the office had covid. It was so weird to travel... but it was good to finally meet my colleagues, over a year after starting my new job!

That lead to cancellation of the weekend away we had planned for our birthdays... we still had a cake, I suppose that's a consolation...

Then my youngest caught covid ...
