Really Random Thursday, 12/2/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Hey, today's date is a palindrome.

Our Thanksgiving was fabulous! Mark's brother, Pete, and his wife, Jane, arrived on Monday before Thanksgiving, and their daughter, Rose, flew in on Wednesday.

Christa created this fabulous charcuterie table. It was gorgeous and there were so many yummy things to choose from.

We then moved on to our traditional Thanksgiving feast. Aaron had smoked a turkey on the Traeger and it was so moist and flavorful.
It was also my birthday, so after a break, and a hilarious time playing Telestrations, it was time for dessert. Charlotte had made my favorite ...

Really Random Thursday, 11/25/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the States. Today is also my birthday. We have much to be thankful for.

Mark's brother, Pete, our sister-in-law, Jane, and their daughter, Rose, are here celebrating with us. The last time Jane was here was in 2003. The last time Pete and Rose were here was in 2014. This is what we all looked like then. Ella was brand new to the family--three months old. I'll post an updated picture next week.

Gabe has begun cross country. Last week they had a mini meet, just their teammates from their school ...

Really Random Thursday, 11/18/21 from Live a Colorful Life

I can hardly believe Thanksgiving is one week from today. Christmas seems to be popping up everywhere! Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday and I just want to savor it before the hustle and bustle of Christmas begins.

Do you feel this way too? Or is your tree already up and decorated? No judgment.

I've been remaking a quilt, something I have not ever done before. It has gone from this...
to this...
But it really deserves its own separate post.

I sent this to Aaron and Christa the other day. I'm sure most parents feel this way ...

Really Random Thursday, 11/4/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Note to Bernadine who left a kind comment about purchasing some of Gabe's note cards: If you are reading this, you are a no-reply commenter and I have no way of getting in touch with you. If you can email me, that would be great!

Charlotte was in her first play at Roosevelt High School, which she attends because of their theater arts emphasis (side note: If you are familiar with Audra McDonald, winner of 6 Tony awards, 2 Grammy awards and an Emmy, she graduated from Roosevelt and the theater is named after her. Just sayin'. We thought ...

Really Random Thursday, 10/28/21 from Live a Colorful Life

The weather is finally cooling down here in the Central Valley. However, it is still not that cool.  True, the mornings are chillier, but it often get ups into the 70s by mid afternoon.

Sunday morning, we were at our favorite bagel shop. The temperature was 61 degrees. So sweatshirt weather, sure. However, we saw this person all bundled up. Puffer jacket, stocking cap, knit scarf...you'd think it was already down in the 40s!

We left shortly after noon to head to Carmel on the coast. A massive rainstorm was predicted and we were meeting our dear friends ...

Really Random Thursday, 10/14/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Gabriel had a birthday last week and is now 10! I'm not sure how he has reached double digits so quickly, but I probably felt that way about Charlotte and Levi as well.

This kid is so amazing--a deep thinker, a trivia addict, an artist...things are always interesting when he is around.

There was no school on Monday so the kids spent a good part of the day at our house--reminiscent of last school year when they were here every Monday and Thursday, and the best part of the day was lunch together.

Gabe was pretty sure he ...

Really Random Thursday, 9/30/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Mark loves to buy me flowers, usually from Trader Joe's. He looks for bouquets that have lilies. Aren't these orange lilies beautiful?

As a side note, this combination of orange, purple and bright pink is one of my favorite fabric combos currently as well.

I'm not sure what this orange and yellow flower is, but I sure think it's beautiful.

I don't have much to write about this week--still resting and reading, and yesterday for the first time in weeks I felt so much better. So I think I'm on the mend, but will ...

Really Random Thursday, 9/23/21 from Live a Colorful Life

There has not been much going on around here lately. I have done a little bit of sewing.

I took the Ruler-Free Finger Paints class from Laura Loewen, thinking I would go outside my box and try some more improv. I think it's become clear to me that improv is not my thing. So I will improv these four blocks together with sashing and move on to the more precision version of the quilt.

In fact, I spent an entire day cutting out the blocks for the complete quilt top. And have paid the price for it with a ...

Really Random Thursday, 9/2/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Hello, September. I always look forward to this time of year. And every single year I'm surprised at how warm the days are. Fall in the central valley doesn't arrive until some time in November. I miss the crisp fall days of the Midwest.

Last Saturday I took a great class from Laura Loewen (@quiltfortco). It was the improv version of her Finger Paints quilt. So improv and I are considered more frenemies than friends, although I'm willing to become friends. :) The improv version of this quilt requires total free cutting--you cut your squares 4"-ish and ...

Really Random Thursday, 8/12/21 from Live a Colorful Life

Every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning's end

(Lyrics from "Closing Time" by Semisonic)

As Christa stated, it's been 517 days since normal school.

Along with countless others, today is a new beginning for these four:

Second grade.
Fourth grade.
Eighth grade.
Tenth grade.
Along with this new beginning for them comes a new beginning for Mark and me. For an entire year, we were known as Wienskler Academy, West Campus, as the kids were here all day on Mondays and Thursdays for virtual school. It had its ups and downs. I have already forgotten the "downs ...
