Patience is NOT one of my virtues! from Larkspur Lane Designs

When I design something new that I'm paticularly excited about, I want to show it to everyone right away! But when you are fortunate enough to get to work with a fabric company, you are on THEIR timeline, so you have to wait and keep it under your hat until they say it's okay to show it off. I have a hard time with this but I made it and I finally have permission to show this new design. This is a design that is featured in the Island Batik Fall/Winter 2024 catalog. The line I used ...

Joy Quilt Block and Pattern from Curlicue Creations

This is the Joy quilt block.  It pairs with the Faith quilt block that I showed last week.
This is an update for a block pattern in my Etsy shop.  Here's how I made it:

I used a fusible applique method for this block,  Here's some of the leaf pieces laid out on the back of the green fabric.

These are the flower centers fused to the back of the yellow orange fabric.

Cutting out the fused patches.

Arranging leaves on the background square.

Arranging stems and flowers on the background square.

Adding more leaves.  At this point ...

Sparrow's Compass Quilt Top from Curlicue Creations

I rewrote one of my patterns this week and decided to make a test sample in an older Island Batik fabric collection, Tropicana Twist.  You might remember my Log Cabin Under the Stars quilt, which I also made with this fabric line.  It's so bright and sunny.

Caramel helped hold down my paper piecing.  She was feeling a little camera shy.

Sparrow's Compass is a Mariner's Compass design.  I paper pieced it in sections, sewed the sections together, and then needle turn appliqued it to a green background square.

Aren't these fabrics bright and beautiful?

I ...

With Glowing Hearts – My Poppy Quilt from Kim Hanson Quilts

It’s Remembrance Day everyone. It’s the day we stop, take a moment and remember all our War veterans.. . . those young souls – men and women – who fought for us and the freedom of our country. I hope you all have a peaceful Remembrance Day.

Awhile back, I made a quilt from fabric designed by a young Canadian designer, Grace Noel. The fabric collection was called With Glowing Hearts and it was created to commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017. I loved the name of the collection, loved Grace’s story and was drawn, as usual, to the “teals ...

Just a wee sneak peak from Kim Hanson Quilts

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I’m sending out a quick blog post today to let you know I’ve been working on an original quilt that I will call All Around the House. The pattern is the simplest of simple. Using the fabric collection called Jubilee from Cyndi Walker (a Riley Blake designer), I honed in mainly on the pinks, greens and whites of the collection.

I must say I really fancied this collection! I’ve never worked with fabrics designed by Cyndi Walker in the past.

Supplementing with some yellows and deep navy’s, I think the combination is ...
