A Word About Retreats from Heart Desire Creations

Recently there have been several inquiries about the Quilt & Sew-In Retreats held in the Spring and Fall in Blowing Rock, NC.  This is a great time where quilters/sewers/knitters, etc. come together to work on their projects, share, laugh, shop and enjoy the wonderful restaurants and all that downtown Blowing Rock has to offer.

Where’s the registration?  Returning retreaters have an exclusive early sign-up period. After that time, if there are openings, information and the registration form will be posted on this site.

Back from A Retreat from Heart Desire Creations

Talk about fun!  There might have been more laughter than sewing! Thankfully, there was a lot of sewing on my part.  As usual, I brought more projects than I could possibly have worked on. Just in case I have a problem with a project, or if I should get bored with a project, or if I miraculously finish a project, I’ll have another to keep me busy. This was a “Featherweight Lovers” retreat, so we all brought our Featherweight machines. Although not a FW, Dee Dee’s Singer was an absolute beauty and I love her elegant setting with ...

Lots of Cutting & Retreat Prep from Heart Desire Creations

Sewing retreats – so very much gets done! To prepare for a 4 day retreat I’m going to, I cut out not one, but two new projects! The first is for a gift for a little boy. I’ve never done an “I Spy” quilt before and thought it would be the perfect gift for the little guy.  Unfortunately, my stash is not very supportive of this quilt. I did manage to cut 9-five inch blocks and then the request process to friends and my guild for more. I’m going to do “square in a square” blocks, using various ...

Days Away Sewing from Heart Desire Creations

A few of us were supposed to head to the beach for a week of sewing at a big retreat. Unfortunately, Hurricane Florence did much damage to the host hotel and it was cancelled. I quickly found someplace closer for us to go for a few days of sewing – sometimes you just need to get away!

I didn’t do a crazy amount of sewing, but did enjoy the sewing I did. I did a fair amount of hand quilting too.  This Kaffe scrappy quilt top will get several more rows and then borders.

More Great Creations from Heart Desire Creations

Fall 2018 retreat was a new challenge for me – instead of 20 attendees, there were 30! So glad too – every one was so talented. I already shared the show and tell. However, a few were left out! Someone had graciously taken pics for me and I completely missed one of the emails with attached pics. Quilters – please forgive.  I love your quilts.

Here’s a great “self portrait” by a very classy lady.  It is just so fun and creative!

and a few more I missed posting…

I never tire of seeing other quilters’ creations. Thank you for sharing ladies!

Back from Retreat I from Heart Desire Creations

Whew! Retreat is just so much fun – but really, 30 quilters?! There was a lot of sewing, sharing, laughing, games, prizes and fun, fun, fun.  What a wonderful group. And I had the privilege of meeting some for the first time and there were a few that hadn’t been in a while. There are those that come every year. All lend so much to the retreat. In addition to North Carolina, they came from South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama and Florida!

Here are some of the pics – another took some and am awaiting those to be sent so there will ...

The Fabric Made Me Do It – Again! from Heart Desire Creations

Keep Calm Squirrel[1]Remember my rant about reducing my WIPs? Huh – guess I lied! How weak am I when I begin to look through my fabrics. Maybe I can justify this one, though – it’s a leader ender to have on hand at upcoming retreats.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! This also puts me as a member in good standing in the Squirrel Club!

I was going through my scrap bin of Kaffe fabrics which was filled to the brim with beautiful, colorful prints. I saw a quilt online recently that’s done with all half square triangles ...

Retreat Progress and Week 38 Goals from Patchwork Sampler Blog

This past week I was in Duluth, Minnesota at a reunion retreat with women I met at last year’s Bonnie Hunter retreat in Oelwein, IA. This was the longest time I’ve ever been on a retreat and I’m happy to say I made nice progress on a number of projects. I want to continue working on these projects to get them out of my sewing room. A couple will be my Week 38 goals.

For me it works best to precut projects and work on piecing blocks and simple tops. With all the chatter and interruptions that ...

Two More! from Heart Desire Creations

Needle and Thread ThursdayMy goal for June was to quilt and finish as many Hospice quilts as possible.  I have been working on it for the last few days, but because so much of my time went into finishing my new sewing table, I could not begin earlier.

I pulled out all the quilt tops and if I had not already had a backing stored with them, I chose one. I also prepped the binding for each. Oh my – look at all those bindings!

I prepped the batting for two of the quilts and sandwiched them. Now it was ...

Surprises & A Great Retreat! from Heart Desire Creations

Last week was the Spring Quilt & Sew-In Retreat and it was a blast! There was so much sewing going on, but that is truly the least of it. The sharing, assistance, laughing and teaching moments were all such treasures. The generous spirit of all who attended was just amazingly wonderful. How lucky am I to bring these quilters back together each year!

And there were surprises! Beverly made these darling heart appliqued bags for everyone and a few extras for the wonderful employees of the inn where we stay. She also made  cute little butterflies (mine, unfortunately, is camera shy ...

Two Projects Ready to Sew! from Heart Desire Creations

It’s time to pack up and head to Blowing Rock for the Spring retreat. I’ll be setting up our sewing room for the Thursday morning start when I’ll greet all the happy, ambitious and anxious quilters as they gather to sew until Sunday!

I have several projects ready to go. The first one I will be doing as a leader/ender project. It is just a simple four patch with a one patch sewn in between each. It will be colorful and fun and fairly mindless – the kind of project I need when I lead a retreat ...

Sew Many Goodies! from Heart Desire Creations

The Spring Quilt & Sew-In is this week and many goodies have arrived from several generous sponsors. I can’t thank these companies enough for their generosity which lends to the fun and creativity of the retreats.

A HUGE thank you again to Island Batik. How generous to have sent several “Fifi and Fido stamps” (five inch squares) and City Culture II fat eighth stacks. The colors and designs of these beautiful fabrics will make some quilters very happy!

Once again Dritz has sent an amazing prize – this beautiful sewing basket and a pile of sewing notions – such goodness!

Sewing Shindig, September 2018 from Tuppence Ha'penny Quilts

Following the success of the Stitched Sewing Organizers Sewalong, I've been in need of a new project. So I'm happy to announce a new boutique sewing retreat, Sewing Shindig, to be held in September this year, in Shropshire.

We have three fabulous teachers - not only quilter extraordinaire Trudi Wood, and talented quilt designer and maker Susan Standen but also the fabulous fabric and pattern designer and author Aneela Hoey!

Classes are optional and if you prefer you can just enjoy a long weekend of social sewing working on your own projects in the company of like minded quilters ...

A Warm Thank You from Heart Desire Creations

The Spring Retreat is coming up soon and it’s time to announce a generous sponsor with a favorite product. A big thank you to the Warm Company! I was so excited when the great big box was delivered. Inside were several battings – Warm & Plush, 80-20 Warm, Warm & White and fusible Warm! We couldn’t have quilting without batting and how wonderful to be able to have these quality battings as prizes.

AND…that’s not all! They also sent the waterproof Insul Shine for making personal coolers and lunch bags and Insul Bright, reflects hot or cold energy and ...

Best Quilting Retreat Ever! from The Free Motion Quilting Project

This week I gave myself a gift in the form of a mini quilting retreat. I didn't go anywhere or do anything special. I just gave myself permission to quilt my Dresden Plate quilt and not worry about what was happening online.

I cannot describe what an enormous relief this was. Instead of stopping to shoot photos and post to Instagram, which always leads to twenty minutes of brain freeze, I kept quilting. Instead of checking Facebook comments or sharing daily progress here, I kept quilting. I even let email hang for a day or two and didn't ...
