Have you started on your Seeing Stars quilt-a-long quilt? It’s not too late! This month (March) we are selecting fabric and cutting. I will share my progress and thoughts as we go. My friend Pam is also going to quilt along and I’ll share her approach as well.

At the start of December 2022 our friend, Helen Godden, started her annual Christmas Countdown Quilt-a-long. Helen is our Handi Quilter Ambassador who lives in Australia. We’ve all been sewing up a storm in our sewing rooms. At this point in the Quilt Along, we’re creating all the triangles for the Terracotta Fiori Quilt. Hopefully, you’re all enjoying yourselves! 

Changing Up the Timeline

I know life tends to get in the way — so this week we’re slowing down a bit. I thought I would give you a little more time to get the last of your triangles put together, pull all that paper out, create half hexagon sets, and put a few rows together.

Foundation Paper Piecing vs. English Paper Piecing

Last week we decided on the layout we’re going to make and picked out our fabrics. This week, we’re cutting them up so that we can sew them back together. This is my favorite part of quilting. Well — if my favorite rotary cutter is working and has a fresh, new blade.

Pre-Iron Your Fabrics

I think I greatly underestimated my own well-being after being so focused on DH after his stroke.  We both had to adjust to staying at home, away from family and friends.  

During out 14 day isolation, we were both dealing with unpacking, finalizing health insurance stuff, doctor stuff,  etc.  I found it almost impossible to focus on sewing, as I couldn't even focus on getting my studio space back to normal.
