WIP: Retro Rubies QAL Update! from Quarter Incher

Here is a little update for you on my Retro Rubies Quilt Along. I'm really pleased with how this it coming along and the fabric selection. It's wild, it's out of control, it's crazy....just like me.

I wasn't sure about the Purple Indian Cotton as the sashing fabric but now I'm really loving it! I wanted to use something I had enough of on hand. I had about 2 yards of the purple indian cotton and thought...what the heck, it'll match somehow and bring out the purple in the prints. You ...

Mini String Quilt Completed from Quarter Incher

I chose to do purple raw edge binding. I like the way the fray edge looks after it washes. I quilted it with random lines all over ...

Catch up! AND Aurifil Designer of the Month Blocks from Quarter Incher

Guess what I did last night? Yep! I stayed up and did some sewing! Whoo-hoo! It's about time. You were probably starting to ask yourself.."Does this girl ever sew or just blog about stuff she's bought?" Haha...yes I really do sew. To be honest though, I have to be in the mood because having an 8-month old really makes it difficult. I usually wait until she goes down for bedtime. If my husband, baby & dog are asleep...there's no distractions and I can sew sew sew! Anyways, last post I mentioned quilting bees. I decided ...

Old, Well Loved Quilts from Cactus Needle

 Under the heading
Old, Well Loved Quilts
at the
Art of Quilting Show
was
Scalloped
by Bead Parker
from Electra, Texas
C. 1950

you will see a lovely scalloped border
nicely finished with a yellow binding.

sometimes known as
Whirligig
or
Kansas Twister
 A 60-degree ruler or template
is needed to cut out the sections for the block.
The outer edge
forms a hexagon shape.
I liked Bead Parker's use of
 yellow triangles
 that helped set
the Whirligig's and ...
