I May Have A Scrap Problem... Time For More Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It has been a busy week, trying to get ahead on some commission work, so I haven't had much time to play with scraps.  I did turn this stack of fabric...

...into a project bag full of the cut pieces to make one of Sam Hunter's Birch Bark quilts...

...or actually three of them, which I hope to combine into a king size quilt!  I used a bunch of yard-or-less pieces from my stash, so I'm counting it as "kinda scrappy" sewing!

Andd here's some beautiful inspiration I'm seeing while out and about ...

RSC19 & Other Finishes from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

I decided to finish my pink RSC19 blocks on my Featherweight.  The block I'm making each month is called Cut Glass.

I also turned the 4 pineapple blocks into pin cushions.  One of these is for the Treadle On pin cushion exchange.

Yesterday I finished block #11 of the Vintage Sewing Machine blocks. I only have one more block to finish.  I was really hoping to find the other Ella & Skysie sewing machine design called 'Antique Sewing Machines', but I'm not having any luck.  These patterns are out of print.

Best Pinnies Ever! from Pieced Brain

Look at it! Last night I dropped everything and locked myself in my studio to make these pincushions - I could not help it after I saw them!

In no time at all, I found the fabrics I needed in my stash (that is THE reason we have such large fabric stashes - on a whim we can open those magic drawers and quickly choose the best fabrics for the project we MUST make now!). These are all by Riley Blake Designs - I am totally smitten by their Date Night collection!

From tiny pieces of fabrics, a neighborhood emerged very quickly. You ...

Pin Pal Pincushion Challenge from A Quilting Life

Swoon Pincushion

Hello…and happy Tuesday! I was hoping to get this post up yesterday…but it just didn’t happen. I feel like I have crazy Mondays much too often…perhaps someday I’ll figure that one out. The solution might have something to do with not scheduling any errands for Mondays

Pincushions, NYC, Frank and Some Binding from The Cozy Quilter

Christine and I have been making some pincushions recently.  I had to buy more stuffing for mine so even though I made them a couple of weeks ago, they did not get stuffed and the openings sewn up until this week. The top 5 are mine and the two in the bottom of the picture are Christine's.  I would like to make a few more and, goodness knows, I have lots of scraps to use to make them!

My daughter recently finished her New York City counted cross stitch picture.  The background is white, like the other ones that ...

Half Way There from The Cozy Quilter

I managed to find a few minutes each day this week to add some more stitches to the outlining of my Frank Lloyd Wright Fountain Glass picture and I am pleased to announce that the top half of the picture is done!  The bottom half does not have as much detail so it should not take as long to complete the outlining there.  I have been doing most of my stitching in the mornings with a cup of tea before breakfast.  It's cozy to sit by the fireplace and add a few more stitches as I think about the ...

biased projects from Crazy Mom Quilts

Later this week I will traveling to Michigan for glamp stitch-a-lot, where I'll be teaching improv string piecing to the students. I made the class sample many months ago, so I decided to immerse myself in a few "biased" projects to get warmed up for this weekend. It's been fun to revisit this technique! (You can see my biased tutorial here and the finished quilt here.)

I made a few pincushions from scraps to get started, because pincushions are ALWAYS a good idea!
They each measure about 3" x 5" and are filled with crushed walnut shells.
Then ...

Pretty Little Pincushion Tutorial & Remix

Hello and happy Thursday!  Today I’m sharing a fun Fat Quarter Shop simple pin cushion project I filmed with them back in March of 2016.  I had a lot of fun filming this tutorial and was super excited when they emailed to let me know they were re-posting it!  So today I’m sharing my Pretty […]

Pretty Pincushion Blog Remix from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The Fat Quarter Shop has been recently running a fun event where they are bringing life back to some of their old projects through Blog Remixes.  So of course I wanted to play along!

I was given the opportunity to choose my project and I picked the Pretty Pincushion project by Sherri McConnell.  You can find the tutorial and assembly video here.

To participate, all I had to do is use the pattern to make a fun little pincushion.  The pattern is written to use charm squares - so I went to my scraps and found lots of  leftover squares from ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem.. A Tutorial and a Winner! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It occurred to me last Thursday that I had forgotten to choose a winner for the Summer Wedding pattern!  What was I thinking - well, ok, I wasn't thinking, but that's still no excuse.  So now, better late than never, here's the winner...

I'll be contacting you via email today to get your mailing address!

You may have seen these on my blog last week - a quick and easy scrap project - so I thought I'd share a tutorial so you can make some too!  Grab four 2.5" squares out of your scrap stash ...

Make-A-List Monday - Taking Time To Breathe! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, after a super busy week two weeks ago, God decided to help me take a little break - a sore back can really slow you down!  But I did get a bunch of stuff done anyway (although not everything I wanted to) so let's see how last week's list went!

1.  Assemble the furniture for the guest room and get it all set up.
Done!  Unfortunately, this was the project that took out my back and made me slow down... But doesn't it look awesome?  I've added a mattress to the top bunk now ...

retreat gifts, part 2 from Crazy Mom Quilts

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas for "happies" in the last post. It was fun to read your comments. I've added a few new ideas to my list!
Of course pincushions are the number one on my list of things to make for retreat gifts. I have a few batches of them to share today!
In early August, I attended another annual quilt retreat with some of my quilting friends. I've been a part of that group for a few years now, so I'm finally catching on to each of their personal tastes. (It takes me ...

Small things from Granny Maud's Girl

I have a month-long break from study, so I hope to find a bit of time on the weekends to complete a few sewing or knitting projects. To celebrate the freedom, I allowed myself to make a couple of little things just for fun, without guilt about the unfinished projects that are still waiting for attention.

I made a simple bag from a pattern in a library book, Sew-licious Little Things by Kate Haxell. The bag needs a lot of fabric for not much carrying capacity, but it is so quick and easy to make that any novice could make ...

Basket Pincushion and a New Quilt Started. from The Cozy Quilter

I needed a quick small gift for someone and decided to make a pincushion.  I found several little 4" basket blocks in a drawer in my sewing room and picked out this one to quilt.  The backing is a solid blue to match the flowers on the basket.  I like making pincushions!

I met Mary Elizabeth Kinch at the Gwen Marston Beaver Island Quilt Retreat several years ago.  I have one of her books and love admiring her large quilts made with many small pieces.  Every Christmas, she does a series of blogposts about 12 different antique quilts.  This past ...

Pincushions from Pieced Brain

Photograph by Annie's. Used with permission.
I love pincushions and am so happy with how these Seasonal Square Pincushions turned out! They are easy to make and perfect to feature fabrics that you want to look at every day.

The shape and simplicity of these pincushions have attracted me for the longest time so I had to make them. I covered the buttons with the bottom fabrics of each pincushion for contrast. The name and maker of the fabric from the left one escapes me, but the fabric on the right is from the Splish Splash collection by Timeless ...

The forgotten little makes from Granny Maud's Girl

When you do a tidy-up, you discover things you have forgotten. In the holiday lull, I have been tidying my sewing space and my photographs, and I discovered images of things I made in January 2017 that I had not shared.

I took part in an Instagram swap organised by Karen (@easypatchwork on Instagram or to make scented sachets. I had fun digging in my scrappy hexagon box and experimenting with drawing with fabric, inspired by Minki Kim and Kristin Esser’s book Sew Illustrated.

a little of everything from Crazy Mom Quilts

I've been walking around my house singing "it's the MOST wonderful time of the year", but in a slightly sarcastic manner. I just can't seem to keep up! I know I'm not alone, but I still don't care for the ridiculous pace of early to mid December. This post is a little random, so please bear with me! :)

Thank you so much for the sweet comments on my gingham quilt! I had a few requests to see the pillows a little better, so here you go. I made pillowcases with Lotta dots in Coral, the ...
