Multiplying Like Rabbits from Quilting and More...

The ladies at my local quilt group really liked the biscornu cushion that I made some time back, so they asked me to teach them the biscornu technique. To get ready for yesterday’s session for that, I made another pin cushion, and then I also made another “shell” of one, but I didn’t stuff it so […]

Mortally wounded from Quilting and More...

I’ve been MIA for a bit longer than I’d realized! I’ve been working on a new quilt (what else is new?), and that leads me to today’s post. No, not the new quilt, but related …. A few months ago, I showed you a new pin cushion I’d hand embroidered. I’d been keeping this one […]

How to Make a Felted Wool Pincushion from Patchwork Posse

Learn how to make a felted wool pincushion….there are lots of options when it comes to felted wool and what pincushion designs you can make. Strips of felted wool make the perfect material for making pincushions.

For the materials I went with felted wool sweaters, but the process is the same for using strips of wool felt. So, either will work.
Because of the subject of the final pincushion, I choose my colors accordingly.   This is a great way to explore some fun wool colors though and think outside of the box.
How to make felted wool pincushions. Perfect for wool strips and shrunk sweaters. so cute!

~ Simple Thread Catcher ~ from Podunk Pretties

Recently I've had a real bad case of .....SQUIRREL!   And then I'll start working on something else and ......SQUIRREL!  By mid afternoon the studio is a mess and I....SQUIRREL! ...I gotta clean up this mess and focus on one project.  So that's what I was doing when it occurred to me(squirrel!) I need a thread catcher.  The new studio layout doesn't allow for a trash can beside the sewing table.  Laying the little snips of thread on the corner of the sewing table isn't working.  They eventually ended up on the elbow of ...

A biscornu pin cushion from Quilting and More...

I don’t know why I’m so intrigued by the biscornu construction, and I also don’t know why I like pin cushions so much. At the moment, I have at least nine pin cushions, and that’s not counting the ones I’ve made and given away!   At any rate, my local quilt group liked my biscornu […]

A reveal from Quilting and More...

Now that the holiday party for our quilt group is over, I can show the things I made for our gift exchange. I had a lot of fun looking for things I wanted to make that would be quilt-related, and I settled on three small items. First, there was this Christmas ornament with its cute […]

Another pin cushion from Quilting and More...

One of the projects I acquired at the recent Houston show was this adorable pin cushion. I found it at a booth called L’atelier d’Isabelle, run by a really nice Frenchwoman who also has wonderful linens fabrics — some of which came home with me, too.

A new thread catcher/pincushion from Quilting and More...

I like to keep a pincushion with an attached bag next to my sewing machine so as not to end up with a zillion threads all over the floor for my dog to eat.

Pinwheel pincushion featuring Sunnyside Up from Carried Away Quilting

I’m a big fan of Moda fabric designer Corey Yoder. I’ve made several projects with three of Corey’s recent collections (Sundrops, Flower Mill, and Pepper & Flax). So imagine my delight when Corey was kind enough to send me a scrap bag of sample fabric from her upcoming collection, Sunnyside Up! I picked through all of the yummy fabric morsels and selected these prints to make a dimensional pinwheel pincushion.

Besides her charming floral designs, Corey’s use of color always draws me in. She has a knack for selecting happy, cheerful hues that are warm and deep ...

Thank you for stopping by today to check out what I came up for this blog hop. Thanks to Carol too for organizing this fun hop and awesome group. Small, smaller, smallest...I have been thinking about this hop and thinking, geez what can I do.... ideas didn't come easily for this one. I thought of what I would do late one night. You know, those nights when it's hard to get to sleep. Well that's when it dawned on me what to do and share with you. Lately I have been doing a little catching up ...

Wonder Clip Pin Cushion :: A Tutorial from Alamosa Quilter

My mom made one of these for me and took one as a door prize to my guild meeting. The lady that won it at the guild meeting asked for the pattern, but Mom didn't use a pattern. This weekend I made one and took pictures so I could write a little tutorial.

The one on the left is the one I made. The one on the right is the one my mom made. For the purposes of this tutorial I made mine a little smaller. You can easily adjust the pattern to add more (or less) clip strips ...

5 ways to upcycle a linen jumper from Crazy Mom Quilts

Welcome to finish it up Friday!

The Minneapolis Modern Quilt Guild had an upcycle challenge, which was due at the November meeting. The rules were to use 3 different materials that were not originally quilting cotton (fabric off the bolt) and make something from those materials. I thought it was a fun and interesting challenge! Being frugal by nature, I HAD to join in.

I started with a black linen jumper (full length dress) that I wore about 20 years ago. I always figured that I could use the fabric for something....someday. This challenge was just the push I ...

wool and flannel pin cushions from Crazy Mom Quilts

The weather has turned blustery in these parts. It's times like these that I am especially thankful to be a quilter...(and part time knitter)! Last week, before the first snow was forecast, we finally started to rake our leaves. We have several mature trees in our yard, so we have gobs and gobs of leaves. I was raking around a tree stump and I thought, "oh! that would be a cute backdrop for a pin cushion photo." Then, I remembered that I had some wool squares hiding in the deep recesses of my sewing room that I had ...

From Russia, With Guilt: PutinCrafts from Gefilte Quilt

I feel guilty.  I must confess. I made a Putin tote bag.

The back features Rasputin, and a matroyshka doll pocket.

Then, as penance, I made a Putin pincushion.

[UPDATE: It's just been pointed out to me that, with the pins, he looks like actor Ray Walston as...

...My Favorite Martian! Except MFM was a sweet guy. Image courtesy Wikipedia.]

How did I come to make crafts featuring a murderous and corrupt dictator who messed with the American elections by fomenting hatred on social media, and possibly penetrated our voting machines?

Well, in my weak defense, I ordered the ...
