Tic Tac Toad – Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

An Island Batik Ambassador Quilt Finish

May is drawing to a close – it’s starting to feel more wintery here, and it’s time to show you my finished Island Batik Ambassador quilt for this month. My checkers quilt, Hop to be Square is my Island Batik project for May. I hope you saw last week’s post explaining how the flimsy of Hop to be Square came about…. It was nearly as much of a surprise to me as anyone – it was certainly not the quilt I sat down to make!

Hop to be Square: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Croc colours

Eye’ve got a confession to make

I changed my mind (shock). Several times. (More shock….. you are shocked…… right?!). When I got out of bed on Sunday I was all set to use my sewing time to make a modern quilt for Island Batik and HOBBS. I was going to make a large colourful graphic improv block…. maybe a wonky log cabin or a star. And float it in a big black background ...

Denim quilt for our family picnics from Zarkadia Quilts

A denim quilt with a lot of memories

I have been hoarding my jeans for more than 10 years, adding more, in the hope of making someday my denim quilt. Finally last year in spring I guess I had enough pieces to make a whole picnic quilt out of clothing fabrics.

denim quilt using clothing

I have used almost 10-12 pairs of jeans, pajamas, old shirts, men’s underwear, other types of trousers and our beautiful memories of using all these clothes. Our comings, our goings, in different countries, in different lives.

Preparation: Finally these clothes came out of the box…[my ...

Picnic Quilt from Wendy's Quilts and More

My Picnic Quilt is finished.  I love how the pattern emerges when it's viewed from a distance.

This quilt is made from blocks that I won in our Block of the Month draw at Capital Quilters.  I did add a few more blocks myself to balance out the colour scheme in some areas.

I hand quilted it with Aurifil 12wt.  I initially intended to just do straight lines running through each block, but I felt it needed more stabilising, so I added echo quilting in grey in the opposite direction to make each of the darker rows stand out ...

Picnic in July...a Stash Sewciety Bee Quilt from Random Thoughts... do or "di"

Last Summer, when it was my turn to be queen in the Stash Sewciety Bee, I chose a random theme of stars and asked my bee mates to make one 12 inch star block and then four of any other block they wanted to make; it didn't have to be a star. My color palette was made from this photo I saw on Design Seeds.

I pulled a great selection of fabrics from my stash.

Here are some of the blocks I made as starters so my bee mates would know what I was after.

The women of my ...

Picnic Quilt (previously known as BOM HST) from Wendy's Quilts and More

Last week I started hand quilting my Picnic Quilt.  I've decided to call it a Picnic Quilt because it reminds me of mum's quilt that we sat on at picnics when I was growing up in the 1970's.

Mum made most of our clothes, and many of the scraps were included in the picnic quilt. I remember sitting on that quilt and identifying all the fabrics I liked in the quilt.

It's grown bigger than this now

My quilt is made from Half Square Triangle blocks that I won at Capital Quilters Block of the Month ...

New pattern: Gumdrops, a layer cake quilt from Carried Away Quilting

When I was a child, gumdrops were one of my favorite treats. I loved the shape, the colors and (of course) the taste. A box of Dots still holds a childlike appeal to me, and the red ones are my favorite. So today I am pleased to share another new pattern with you: Gumdrops. Select a layer cake of candy-colored prints and you can make this sweet lap quilt in no time!

Gumdrops is made from one layer cake with coordinating fabric, and the pattern includes an easy-to-construct pieced backing made from 16 of the layer cake squares! Don’t ...
