Trouble Ahead!! from Quilt Obsession

Over the weekend I got all the little triangle units pieced for the red and white mini quilt and one of the four-patch units made. It won’t take long now to get the three additional red and white blocks made. In fact, I’m relatively sure I can get them done by the end of this week. And there are now only four more black and white NYB blocks left to make and I think I might be able to get them finished this week as well.

And it’s a very good thing that’s so, because there ...

More Black and White – Oh, No! from Quilt Obsession

Wednesday night I was so happy as I’d finished sewing the last group of triangles into arcs for the final six black and white New York Beauty blocks and could see the end coming of working with just black and white. Or so I thought.

All that was left was adding the corners and arcs to each of those arcs of triangles. Or so I thought.

The needle dome wasn’t likely to need to be loaded with 10 needles threaded with black thread ever again. Or so I thought.

Something was nagging at me yesterday morning about the ...

Pinks and Greens and Black and White from Quilt Obsession

I’m back to piecing the border blocks for the Pickled Ladies top, but I had to take some time on the weekend to go through and pick out all my pink and green batiks, so I can dream about making the double sunflower blocks for the Peony Quilt.

I’m making these using the New York Beauty 3 Inklingo collection. I love this New York Beauty block as it’s either continuous stitching or gentle curves and I do love those spiky points. It’s easy to get really spiky points like this with the stitching lines and matching ...

Pickled Ladies Completion from Quilt Obsession

The centre of the Pickled Ladies top is completed, that is. There’s still more to come for this top. But now all the half pickled clams have been added  and so the centre of the quilt top is done and I’m so excited that I can barely stand it!

There are bits at the edges that will get dealt with when the first of the two borders is attached. One of the two borders involves quite a bit of piecing, although I have that almost halfway done now. As long as I manage to stay away from distractions ...

More Half Pickled Ladies from Quilt Obsession

The final eight half clamshell pickles are done – so now it’s time to start sewing them on to the top. But first, here are the final eight.

I was happy to find so many of my floral fabrics had flowers small enough for all the clamshell pickles, including all the partial ones. Some very small.

Some quite a bit larger.

Some light.

Some darker.

Lots of roses, large …

… and small.

Another light one.

And one of my favourites.

Now that all the half Pickled Ladies are done, it’s time for lots of curved piecing and continuous stitching as ...

Half Pickled Ladies on the Side from Quilt Obsession

I had made the little strips of triangles for the side halves of the Clamshell Pickles a long time ago and they’ve been sitting waiting, all this time, for me to finally get the fabrics chosen and half Pickled Ladies printed for each one.

All that was left was some nice curved piecing to add the little strips of the triangles to the half clamshell pickles, which went very quickly, and all the ones needed for one side are now done.

Using the window template made it very quick to find fabrics that worked for the side halves. The ...

Half Pickled Ladies from Quilt Obsession

Yes, I know it has been a long time since I blogged, but I have been busy sewing all this time. This post will be a bit short on words, but there are lots of pictures.

Part of the piecing has involved finally getting the Pickled Ladies top to the point I needed to choose fabrics for the edges so that I’d have a straight edge before I start attaching the borders.

So I began with window templates for the top and bottom pieces.

And window templates for the two sides.

Six and a half hours later, after auditioning ...
