Sam says 'hi"! I hope and trust that you all had a wonderful fourth. It was really just another day here as we didn't attend any fireworks or barbecues this year. Work continues on the kitchen re-do; hopefully all of the perimeter counter tops will be fully installed tomorrow. We did observe the holiday with extra flags and patriotic displays, Uncle Sam is currently on sentinel duty at the sewing

Here is Best Friends!
To learn how to get my free pattern, see How Do I Get the Free Best Friends Pattern? at the end of this post.
I have always loved the classic Friendship Star, so for this month’s block I decided to play with that. To me, the large and small stars represent two friends embracing each other.

Here’s my fabric pull. I started with bright prints with interesting textures, then added some matching solids. To polish everything off, I pulled from my stack of ...

Followers know that my favorite color is purple. So when I heard this month’s theme, I instantly thought I should do a purple flower. And what better purple flower than a violet?
Violets, by the way, were given in the past as a sign of faithfulness and everlasting love. Violets also symbolize remembrance. Wouldn’t this make a great block to remember ...
read moreLapped and flat-felled seams are two sides of the same coin. Both are found in ready to wear–the lapped seams I see most often in men’s dress shirts. Flat-felled seams are found on jeans…they’re that heavy, bulky seam! The double stitching makes it strong, so it is good for seams that endure strain–like tight jeans! They can also be used decoratively with contrasting and/or heavy topstitching thread. Let’s start with the ….

I thought it would be fun to teach some basic garment sewing techniques using a simple “T” top in woven fabric as the platform, tossing in a few special lessons along the way. This isn’t a class in how to make a blouse–rather it is a way to teach several techniques that are useful in garment making and home dec across the board. There will be 9 posts total that will publish on Tuesday and Friday through March 21. As they go live, I will update a list at the bottom of each ...
