Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Spice, Pumpkin Patch... from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

What's in a quilt name?

Hi there! I'm back in my studio working on a UFO that has languished in The Bins for 17 years. This is another quilt from the book "Sweet Treats" by Sandy Bonsib, and the pattern is Pumpkin Pie. That’s the quilt on the table on the cover of the book.

This one has been roaming around in the back of my head for a long time, but it was farther along than I originally thought. I thought there was an adjustment that needed to be made due to a mis-sized block but ...

Antelope Canyon quilt progress from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

It's very slow...

It's a log cabin quilt. How hard can it be? Very hard and confusing if I don't pay close attention to it.

I try to set myself up with every quilt I make with a plan to be more efficient in my piecing. A big part of that is organizing the blocks into stacks that can be chain pieced. Again, it's a log cabin block...but a very big block! Each block finishes at 37", and that's 47 logs plus the center square. And the majority of those logs each have two ...

Change of plans, updates...you know the drill! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

And there is always the chaos factor.

Case in point: a few weekends ago I went to Marshall Dry Goods with one of the besties. I purchased flannel to make two receiving blankets for our great-grandson that's due to arrive in April. I was thinking I had plenty of time to make them. But two weeks ago, darling granddaughter landed in the ER, was admitted to the hospital due to complications, was told she would stay two weeks to allow little man to grow a bit more, then told it would be three weeks, and he was born a ...

2026–let’s see what happens from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

As in will she get anything done?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! New Year's Day was the 33rd anniversary of my quilting life. Again, glass half-full girl here, hoping she can accomplish more than last year, and that 2026 is not the dumpster fire that was 2025.

NESTY - From last year’s hopeful list to this year’s: The Sierra log cabin quilt designed by Jennifer Sampou. This one will not leave me alone; I think of it constantly. Ergo…

WIP - That Girl Done Gone Plum Crazy—a project from the digitizing refresher class I had last year. The top is ...

Fall is finally here! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Let’s see what’s happening.

Y’all, I am so grateful for autumn. It’s my favorite season because it’s finally a smidge cooler and it’s the most colorful! A few leaves have fallen and the puppies are going nuts over them…and the acorns. The Hubs and I figure they’re getting more fiber.

Fall is also my muse for quilting. Projects are filling my head and sewing space and I think this is the time of year when I break rules like the stupid one-project-at-a-time rule. There, I said it. Without further ado, here’s ...

The Tattoo quilt, block 3– from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 Courage, dear heart.   — C. S. Lewis.

This was the saying that kept going through my mind as I pieced this block. Fiddly, and time-consuming; and my mind went to enough different places while I worked on it that I made several mistakes in the cutting of the fabrics.

No coup here, but this was a good start on the first day of piecing this block.

I’m now considering cutting out the remaining pieces of the entire quilt so I can just sew, trim and press. A long weekend should fill the bill, so long as I’m not interrupted.

The Tattoo Quilt, block 2 -- from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

The Hope block…as in I hope I have the wherewithal to continue this project…

DISCLAIMER: When I started writing this post, it was about 6 weeks ago. Life (actually, death) intervened and I talk a little bit about it in this post, so here’s your trigger warning. All references to days are from that time because I didn’t feel like guessing at when they were. Enjoy.

My goodness. Talk about labor intensive—two sections have a triangle about half the size of a pea. And Sunday, I saw where someone on Reddit had pieced the quilt and ...

I bought a pattern from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

…and I made it!

And HI THERE!  I know it’s been a while.  Life, and all that.  There’s a lot to catch up on and I will be making a few posts here and there.  Yes, we have moved into our new home and we are still getting settled.  I promise I’ll get you all caught up.  But first, I want to talk about patterns:

I have purchased many patterns during my quilting life.  I have sold or re-homed many patterns, too.  I’m trying my best to not purchase patterns on impulse—and that’s hard ...
