Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Inspired by the runners and table toppers that I saw on Doodlebugs and Rosebuds blog a short while ago, I decided to try my hand at some of these. I found this great patriotic border print and grabbed my 60 degree ruler. In no time at all I had these two runners and a table topper pieced and ready to go. I loaded one piece of backing fabric, sandwiched in some left over batting scraps, and

Poppy Pod Lane from Nestlings By Robin

I have a love of poppy flowers and
have designed some larger quilts
that the magazines maybe find
overwhelming...?

So I designed a smaller piece and
picked it up:)  YAY!
Their magazine is so full of beauty.

I started previewing my fabrics
to see how they would look
as quarter-square triangles.

Once the top was finished,
it was time to work on the
embroidery for the
applique' section.

Once all my applique'
was fused in place,
on to basting....

Yes, I pin baste
small projects for
machine quilting.

My quilting was straight
stitching along the diagonal line ...

Welcome, Sam! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Meet Sam, he's the newest guard to be posted at the door to my sewing room; he's arrived just in time for Memorial Day, Flag Day and the 4th of July! As my friend commented when she saw him under construction: "he's a yankee doodle dandy", that he surely is. Sam is a Country Threads pattern (thanks, Mary and Connie for another wonderful pattern!). Sam joins the ranks of an army of sentries who

Patriotic Table Runners, This and That from Grandma's Red Needle

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. For us, it was just normal days. Here, compared to Norway, there are no public holidays related to Easter. In Norway; Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays. Now that we are on partial lockdown (phase #1 in reopening), all church services are closed. If you would like to know more about lockdown Easter celebration in Mauritius, click here

UFO's are put aside, since I'm currently working on two Patriotic table runners. It's a custom order to one in the US.

OOOH! That photo doesn't ...

Pride & Glory from Appalachian Quilts

I wanted to have this one up for Veteran's Day, but my binding fingers just weren't fast enough.  When I was quilting Gilly's Stars and Stripes, I was thinking 'this quilt doesn't look like what I remember it looking like'.  Ummm, that's because I was thinking of a different quilt!  I had totally forgotten about that one and was thinking of this one when I thought about that allover design.  Funny thing is -- this runner hasn't been hanging up for a long time.  It's relatively newer.  They say the first thing to go ...

Gilly's Stars and Stripes Table Runner from Appalachian Quilts

Some quilters will throw out a challenge every January based on what year it is.  For example:  10 quilts in 2010.  Up until about 2015 (think 15 quilt finishes), I participated.  Then, life got in the way.  I'm absolutely amazed at the ladies who are striving for 20 in 2020!  For me, having all the flimsies (finished tops that just need quilted) from shop samples and class samples, it seems like a great challenge to get some of them completed.  I even will challenge myself to quilt a flimsie if I 'allow' myself to piece yet another.  Back when ...

America’s Wheel of Fortune from Meena Schaldenbrand

The 2020 vote will determine America’s future and freedom.

Made a list from A to Z of each political party, designed the quilt in software.                                          Some text is printed on fabric, some are diecuts.

Cotton, net, charms, trims

Seeing Stars! from From the Strawberry Patch...

I spent some quiet time with Ruth (Singer 301 inherited from my dear MIL) this past week, stitching and enjoying my perennial garden through the window, it's much cooler inside.

Design Wall Monday - June 29, 2020 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Hello quilters!  Happy 4th of the July this week.  I love flag quilts and have many.  Here’s a link to how I made a replica of an 1862 crib flag quilt.  (Here).  It is in the room with me right now, ready for the holiday weekend coming up: The zigzag blue plaid quilt is back in Grand Rapids on the design wall.  I put it there and put up more potential columns of dark/light plaids.  I

Quilts with stars and over 50 one-block quilt patterns from Pieced Brain

Quilts with stars and over 50 one-block quilt patterns

I love quilts with stars, whether they are pieced, paper pieced, or appliqued. I have made them entirely with stars, such as this Christmas quilt, or mixed with alternating blocks. Here is my latest star quilt block, which is going into a sampler quilt.

Two of my friends and I are making star quilt blocks which will be later turned into a quilt. We were supposed to meet every month and exchange blocks, but life is getting in the way. I did make another block, though, and I think it came out so cool!

I was looking for 12-inch star ...

Quilted Joy’s Longarm Renters are Ready for the Fourth from Quilted Joy

Patriotic quilts have been a part of our common history since the country began. And there is no slowing down now. With the fourth of July just around the corner, it is not a bad time to plan a quilt for it. The Star-Spangled Banner is only one of the twenty-nine flags in the world that is made of red, white, and blue. Even more of them have stars. But when you are in the USA, anything that has red, white, and blue automatically feels patriotic regardless of the shape it is in. These longarm machine renters are ready for ...

Hangin' with Harvey from From the Strawberry Patch...

There's a sameness to every day right now. Although I do try to keep to a normal (for me) schedule during these days-on-end of staying at home and quarantining- (getting up at 6, dressing for the day, morning walks, regular mealtimes, cleaning house on Fridays, ironing on Saturday mornings...) I dispensed with decorating the house for Easter this year. I can't remember ever NOT doing that

Design Wall Monday - November 11, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

November 11th:  Veterans Day - a day to honor the soldiers who have served our country in war and peace.   I so appreciate those who have served in the military, and reflect on the vanishing number of World War II vets still alive.  As I age, I have a greater appreciation of the preciousness of life, its beauty, its fragility, and the importance of our veterans and their service to the United
