And in my personal life... from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

there's not much going on. I am slowly healing from the surgery two weeks ago. Mostly I am resting, napping, and sleeping. However, yesterday and today I went into the studio and actually made some stitches. Of course, some of those stitches were to hem up Lane's pants for graduation, which is tomorrow night. That  took all of maybe 15 minutes.

The other stitches I made had to do with the Cotton Robin final round of mini-quilts. (Here's a sneak peak. Shhh!) It won't be long till the Big Reveal. That's when I can post ...

Gina's Surprise ~~ finished from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Maybe I should name this quilt Mary and Gina's Surprise. I finished the entire quilt in only a few days, so I am surprised.

Gina, however, is the one with the really big surprise. She is expecting a boy mid-January. Gina is my niece and is about 32 years old. She has always said no children, ever. Plus, she has two nephews of her own that she's especially close to. I suppose you could say she helps in raising them and that was enough for her.

But, you know, things can change. A girl in her thirties can ...

Marking Time from From the Strawberry Patch...

I have a new way of marking time in the Studio these days, the rapid passing of each hour is cuckoo here now; and I love it! (The cuckoo, not the swift passage of time!!) I have been quiet the last two weeks, absent from the blog for good reason; my Mom and Dad have been visiting, we had a wonderful time. They are responsible for this beautiful new addition to the wall. It is a birthday gift,

A Camper for a Camper and other Christmas Stories from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

What family, temporarily living in campers, would give the one permanent camp child a camper? This. One. of course.

Poor child. Her own personal Barbie/baby doll camper as small as Grandmay and Poppa's. She's living in a camper the size of her new (in process of being built) house. And her dolls will have to share the smallest camper available to dolls. Wait, it's the size of the camper I'm sleeping in tonight.

It's been a while since we've had a baby to open gifts. What fun! Doesn't the look on her ...

A Hard Day from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Jake Thomas DucoteToday was the funeral for the young man who died last week from when his friend shot him with an automatic rifle. Jake had many friends and family, but I was still astounded by the numbers that showed up last evening for the wake service, and this morning at the funeral.

My husband and sons have always known Jake and his dad, so we are quite close. Additionally, Steve and Mike have been best friends forever, so our families are really connected. As I wrote a few days ago, we are friends who choose to be family.

Giving Thanks in Mourning from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Will and his grandbaby Milly
Like everyone else, I think about all the blessings in my life--my husband, children and grandies. Appreciating them today is different, however. Although I thought it impossible, I love them more and I appreciate their coming today so we can all be together. And with good reason. This Thanksgiving is different. Very different. Even with all this love, today was also difficult and sad.

A small family in our close community lost their only son. A 20-year-old who just moved out of his parents' home. Who was planning to propose to his girlfriend. Who was ...
