2018 Come and Gone from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Seriously 2019, how in the world did that happen?  Just yesterday it was September and Brody was starting school; now we are into the new year.  Boy time flies.   I certainly hope that everyone had a fantastic holiday season.  The holidays in the Calle household were wonderful but way too short.  I’m sad to report that the older boys already headed back at school.  </p>

My present to everyone is a  15% off storewide!  The sale that will run from  Dec 16th through Dec 24th!  My quilting sleigh could be filled with goodies heading your way if you take advantage of my holiday sale.  (my online ...

Many thanks to the left-handed quilter, Gene, Linda, and Mary for your opinions on the moose backgrounds. I always appreciate your help. Mr. Cowboy wanted me to audition more fabrics but secretly I think he likes to make suggestions on colors but doesn't me to discover that he's into the process.
Anyway, here's more takes on backgrounds. Your thoughts please!!

Most of you know it’s with much excitement that I’ve announced that Perfect Plumes has made its big debut.  But what you don’t know is that during the process of constructing my latest class, with a little help, I filmed a little promo video for the launch of my newest addition.  Below you will find the small segment to watch, if you haven’t already. And if you’re about to click “play” keep in mind that there’s nothing I love more than adding a bit of comedy into my work days.

So feel free take ...

Presenting… Perfect Plumes! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Some things are worth the wait, and I have to admit these are one of those things!  If you’ve been yearning to master the technique of creating beautiful heirloom feathers then, Perfect Plumes is calling your name!  The class is broken down into steps that are easy to understand and provides the knowledge and skills needed to enhance this aspect of quilting. The only catch is there is no magic fairy dust..

You may not want to hear this folks but the fact remains, like many things, the key to success with creating feathers is practice, practice, practice! You ...

NJ Quilt Fest and Memory Lane from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Thank you Manusco! I’m sure they weren’t aware that selecting Edison, New Jersey as the new venue for the NJ Quilt fest, would bestow upon me a priceless gift.   In addition, I am quite certain they had no idea that they would have my professional and personal lives joining paths for the weekend.

So, believe it or not I actually grew up in the town of Plainfield which is right next to Edison, in fact my high school was in Edison.  Good Ole “Evergreen School” (my elementary school) I remember it felt overwhelming walking the halls as a ...

Lisa, Lisa, Where Are You? from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I realize that I have been MIA, but for good reason as it all pertains to my love of quilting.  Numerous commitments have kept me on the go; trust me even my husband thinks I’ve disappeared!  First up was MQX (Machine Quilter’s Expo) in New Hampshire.  I love attending this show, it holds a special place in my heart since it was my first teaching gig way back in 2006.  I get such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia when I walk through the doors of this arena.

The word “amazing” doesn’t come close to describing this show ...

Folks We Are SOO Close! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Does the following little video have you glancing in the mirror saying, “Oh my god! That’s me!”  If so, then you’ll be happy to know I have a solution!

Yes, step by step, things are really starting to move forward in my little studio, here in Pennsylvania.  Even during the process of preparing for shows, lectures, etc. I have remained focused on producing the ProFeather™ ruler AND the Perfect Plumes Class.  No doubt it’s a lot to juggle, but I’m so excited that I’m putting the finishing touches on my newest ruler and class that ...

Snow and Slow to Lancaster 2018 We Go! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I’m still looking for February; and searching high and low for March!

I spent the better portion of last week at the AQS Lancaster Quiltweek.  My trip began with a lovely spring blizzard which kindly dropped 12″ of snow on surrounding roads.  Moreover,  it’s timing couldn’t have been better…not.   Those beautiful, white, flakes began falling from the sky above on the day I was scheduled to leave.  But I pulled my big girl snow pants up, as high as they would go, and prayed that my 4 wheel drive SUV was up to challenge of  transporting ...

February Come Back! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

February where are you, where did you go?  And did you take half of March with you? Will someone please find February, and for that matter, the beginning of March.  I need them returned to me ASAP!

Goals,  yes I have a few.  You may be wondering why I’m sharing such things with you.  Well, in order to accomplish these objectives, I felt if I shared them with all my quilting followers they would become a reality sooner rather than later. Nothing wrong with a little peer pressure.

The first on my little list “to do” is launching my ...

Here’s To You! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I am blown away by the number of responses I received regarding feathers.  Thank you so much for all the information that you submitted; I greatly appreciate, and WANT, the input! Rest assured that your valuable insight will contribute to the construction of an amazing feathering class!

Be on the lookout for a new “Feather Ruler”.  You read correctly, in addition to the upcoming class I also have a Feather Ruler in the works!  I still remain firm on the fact that everyone can create these beauties freehand, but a “combination” ruler will also prove beneficial.  This tool can be ...

Talk to Me Quilters! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Feathers… the technique I wanted to learn above all else.  I LOVE feathers, and couldn’t wait to master this technique.  I would invest hours, upon hours, drawing those beautiful images. But let’s be realistic the outcome of my first attempts weren’t very pretty. However, as practice would have it, my skills have matured and my confidence has grown in leaps and bounds since those initial feathering days.

Since I know how agonizing it can be wanting those magical feathers to appear sooner rather than later on your fabric I thought it might be beneficial to share my ...

What I “Did” VS What He “Thought I Did” from Lisa H Calle's Blog

The MidAtlantic Quilt Festival was upon me, and I had yet to make a sign for my booth.  I was hell-bent on creating a sign; I refused to present my space without it! No way, no how, this quilter was in a “get out of my way” mode until this task had been accomplished (I’m sure many of you can relate to a project that brought you similar feelings) Was having this piece absolutely necessary? Was the world going to end if I my sign wasn’t present at the show? When I am in a sane state of ...

What Happened in Heidelberg PA? from Lisa H Calle's Blog

There was a lot going on in Heidelberg, PA regarding the craft of quilting! Saturday morning I headed out early, with my red-headed assistant along side of me, to the town located about an hour away.

My session took place in the banquet room of the Heidelberg Family Restaurant.  Who says you can’t teach a class at a restaurant? Us quilters are very resourceful and the room was perfect!

I taught my favorite class, surrounded by a room full of engaging and delightful individuals.

Initially, many of my pupils, who were domestic machine users, were a bit intimidated by ...

There are Several “Popabilities”! from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I am about to mention a tool that I am sure that I have made reference to previously.   However, if by any small chance you missed the initial reveal of this tool; I will share with you one more time just how much I LOVE my  Corner Pop tool .

During the last couple of months I’ve been in my studio dedicating time to a special project, along with squeezing in time for my four-year quilt.  The Corner Pop tool and technique has made a huge difference in creating this design.

The photograph below shows the beginnings of the design ...

I REPEAT…… from Lisa H Calle's Blog

A Mantra I Have Lived By

I have stated in the past that I will typically have three projects going simultaneously (cray or not, that’s me).  My typical circus involves one in the piecing state, one incorporating an appliqué project, and finally one pertaining to quilting.  Like I said that would all be “15 years worth of typical” until now.

To be honest and bring clarification to the previous statement:

I currently have one in the quilting process.  Yes, it feels to me as if it will be the never-ending project BUT I haven’t refuse to give up ...

So Long, Farewell 2017 BUT from Lisa H Calle's Blog

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season and a wonderful weekend ringing in the New Year!  I was very blessed to have all my boys together during the past couple of weeks. They always bring so much laughter, tons of craziness and endless love to our home. It certainly makes focusing on work difficult.  Those moments of having my boys under one roof for any length of time is simply priceless!

I will be implementing one major word into 2018.  And the word of the year is “EDUCATION“.  Yes, eduction with be the foundation for this quilter over the ...

Once Upon A Quilt from Lisa H Calle's Blog

Recently I had the pleasure of traveling to Ft Lauderdale and taught at a retreat with Angie Steveson and Carol Ann Waugh.  Wow, I had a blast!  Let’s begin by saying this always freezing cold girl was headed somewhere warm!  Oh yeah!  The only downside was that it was the perfect weather for doing my favorites thing in the world, besides quilting, which is playing golf.   The mild temperatures and the bright shining sun teased me with their amazing golfing conditions.  I made a silent pact with weather gods of Ft Lauderdale that I would return, in the not ...
