7 Patch Puzzle 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I like untangling puzzles, and using Electric Quilt I can create some too!

Both of these are set on point to add to the puzzle.

Red and White 2 Block OP 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

A couple more of my Red and white collection of 9patch quilt designs.

In this project file I have used 10 blocks, with an alternative colouring used for two of them, and used each and every block with all of the others. Each combination is used twice, in both possible combinations.

As there are 131 designs in the project file, somewhere I have missed one … one day I might find the patience to work out which combination I missed, though I deliberately missed using the same block in both of the alternative placings, which would have made 144 in total ...

My Bright Patches OP 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Not my colours, I don’t like too many stars, but I do like the design above!

The applique border is great!

I like the second design too!

Another interesting design … perhaps I should teach myself to like piecing quilts!

Patricia’s Patches OP 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I like the design, and the colours even though I think they would look like Christmas all through the year, but then a little bit of Christmas everyday would be nice.

The second design has me thinking that a simple pieced star block in low contrast fabrics would make a very interesting background for applique blocks. I feel a new project file is about to be opened, though an alternative approach would be to use the star shape as background quilting around the applique!

After Pompeii OP 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Love the centre of the first design, but I think the Double Wedding Rings in the corners are too dark.

Variation, and the corners are too dark in this one too.

What an amazing world it is after coffee when I have Electric Quilt to play with!

EQ 9x9s OP 22, 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Basic blocks from the Electric Quilt library, but the design looks anything but basic.

Tipping the block on point makes a big difference.

So does including narrow sashing between the blocks but using the background fabric in the blocks. Even the little shares look like a bit like stars in the dark background.

Elevenses OP 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty.

This series of designs are based on a collection of blocks, and have kept me amused enough to keep me coming back every so often and playing for a while.

Love the second design!

Logs on Point 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Love the second one!

The next one is neat and tidy.

The one above morphed into a Fishing Cabin project file.

The last design for this week’s mid week retreat is interesting … I am going to have a play to see what I can add to the project file for future posts.

An Adopted Mini from Wedding Dress Blue

Who made these blocks and then didn’t want them?

All they needed was a little cleaning up.

And arranging.

And sashing.

And now, quilting.

It is so tiny–11″ x 21″.

Whoever it was, I am grateful.

EQ Dozen OP 53, 54 from Virtual Quilter

On the whole I think I like straight sets over on point most of the time, but I still love playing with on point settings.

It is worth it when you find designs like the one above!

Hi 5s OP 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting start for the day …

… but I love the second design.

Designs like this make me wonder why so many quilts are made using just one block design, when mixing up some blocks creates some stunning designs, and it is not a boring slog like making somewhere between 12 and 50 identical blocks for a quilt.

EQ Mods OP 14, 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Today’s designs look rather old fashioned, but they also look warm and comfortable.

The blocks are from the Electric Quilt block library, but with some modifications.

I am sometimes surprised that I have spent so much time making quilts that I like the look of to put on a bed, and then we spend most of the time in the bedroom in the dark with eyes closed. However, I love seeing a crumpled quilt on a bed which has kept somebody warm and comfortable overnight, and enjoy making the bed a lot more if there is a real quilt ...

Very interesting.

I imagine that I could get into quite a tangle trying to piece that together!

In the second design I have removed some colour from four blocks.

My favourite is the last one.

EQ Dozen OP 48, 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

This is an extension of the first project file I started to use purely as virtual quilts. I found that mixing straight settings and on point settings meant that i had to keep mixing them up after I had spent time playing with one setting type as I would add at least five designs of one, usually way more. A lot simpler to keep them separate.

I also started playing with sashing which sometimes disappeared.

I wonder if that knotted block would work as a pieced block instead of applique?

Love the second one.

I love this one too.

So very different to anything I would normally even think of doing, so have to admit it was a mistake, but not a mistake I regret making!
