Postage Stamp Star block with Fat Quarter Shop from Carried Away Quilting

A few weeks ago, the creative folks at the Fat Quarter shop asked if I’d like to sew a project for their Classic & Vintage series, where they take a traditional block (like those found in old catalogs and vintage quilts) and give it a fresh spin in a new pattern. Well, of course I said yes and signed up to make their Postage Stamp Star block!

The block finishes at 18” square, which is a great size for a table topper or wall hanging. The piecing is simple and straightforward. I was able to sew, quilt and bind my ...

A Tumbler quilt for my sewing room from Carried Away Quilting

A few weeks ago I told you about a new project I was starting, a Tumbler quilt. I’m pleased to share the final result with you, a sweet little quilt for my sewing room. She’s a super cute complement to the Lone Star quilt I shared with you last spring.

While the Lone Star quilt hangs above my cutting table (a DIY project made by my husband and me), the new Tumbler quilt is displayed in an opposite corner of the room where I can see her from my sewing machine. I’ve used an old yard stick ...

New project: a Tumbler quilt from Carried Away Quilting

I’ve wanted to make a Tumbler quilt for some time. If you’re unfamiliar with that name, a tumbler quilt is made up of blocks that resemble a drinking glass. It’s a classic quilt layout that can take on a traditional or contemporary feeling depending on the fabrics selected. It’s also a terrific quilt pattern for busting your stash, which is exactly what I did this weekend. I pulled some of my favorite Moda leftovers and began cutting tumblers. Aren’t they cute?

I’m sure there are many patterns and templates available for sewing a Tumbler ...

Kitchen table quilts from Carried Away Quilting

I really love a kitchen table quilt. To me it says, “Sit a spell, sip some coffee, share your news with me.” I don’t think we do enough of that these days, but we used to.  Some of my best memories of my Grandma Arlene include sitting at her kitchen table, where we would all gather and eat cookies and talk. We would beg Grandpa Ed to take out his dentures and talk funny to us.  Grandma would make tea on the stove top and stir in a teaspoon of Orange Tang to give it some zest. And I ...

Hello quilting friends! I'm back with another block on the Spelling Bee Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop! This sew along features blocks from the new Spelling Bee book by Lori Holt. Window Garden in Tilda: A project update from Carried Away Quilting

Last February I began a Window Garden quilt for myself, using some much loved (and hoarded) Tilda fabric. Because this wasn’t a gift and I had no particular deadline, I worked on this top in between other projects, here and there, as time allowed. Now my top is done and headed off to the quilter! I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

Every time I brought out this project to cut or sew a little bit, I felt a renewed love for the fabric and the pattern.

Window Garden is a layer cake pattern, but as I ...
